The Basics
Name: Germaine Annika Sharpe
Nicknames: Anni, Gerri
Age: Thirteen
Orientation: Heterosexual
Desired Rank/Job: Student
Powers: Acid Generation-
Anni has the ability to secrete an acidic solution from her fingertips. It can be released as a liquid, typically as a mist but occasionally as jet. Her body has a special system of transport for the acid (like how the lymphatic system is specialized for lymph) and an extra acid-resistant epithelial layer on top of her skin. This helps to protect her from the effects a lower pH has on essential enzymes and proteins, but damage is not entirely preventable. (In laymen’s: cuts or internal damage have the potential to be a big problem.)
Negative side-effects include acidosis and accidental degeneration of objects. The severity of acidosis depends on the strength of the acid and the amount of time Anni uses her power. Because her body has adapted protective tissues, this is really only a problem if said protective tissues are damaged. Also, while she can control the release of acid, she cannot control what it will and will not erode. In other words, anything normally susceptible to acid erosion can be affected by her power, while everything else is immune.

General Appearance:
Anni currently stands at 5’2”, but being only 13 leaves her plenty of room to grow. She has a scrawny, light frame and a slight tan thanks to her affinity for the outdoors. Of course this also means her body is littered with freckles, the face in particular. Her eyes are a light tint of brown mixed with hints of green to give them a hazel look. Likewise, her hair is light brown and curly with various highlights that could look either blond or red depending on the lighting. What little muscle she has isn’t toned and her hair is usually a mess because she hates to brush it, but neither of these things concerns her in the least. However, she is concerned by the lack of a chest her body type and age give her, and is quite self-conscious about it.
While Anni is definitely the outdoorsy type, she is not a tom boy. In fact, she often prefers to wear skirts and dresses instead of trousers. It’s typical to see her with leggings underneath these things because otherwise it would be awkward for her to climb trees, roll down hills, and do other such activities she loves. On rare occasions she will wear shorts, and almost never will she wear pants. The exception to this fashion choice, however, is when Anni is practicing or playing sports, in which case she consistently dons shorts and a soccer jersey. Shoes are always of the tennis variety (assuming she's even got a pair on).
Overall she does well to maintain a wild appearance. Between her mangled hair and tinted complexion she looks more like an Amazonian than a middle class teenage girl from Colorado.
Personality:
First and foremost, Anni is a social butterfly. She loves nothing more than to be with and talking to people. To that point, she is addicted to gossip and will often poke her nose into things she has no business with just to keep up to date on the local drama. And don’t be surprised if she jumps from one subject to another in the middle of a conversation. Maybe she was born that way, or maybe she’s been hit in the head with a soccer ball one too many times, but in any case she is completely scatterbrained.
Speaking of soccer, Germaine worships the sport and has been playing since she was six. She’s a regular little jock, in fact. Being in a variety of sports since the age of two, she’s athletic and loves to spend her free time playing a game or being generally wild. Rainy days are a tough time for her. She strongly dislikes television and board games, and has broken a vase or two while attempting to practice indoors.
It’s always risky business trying to get Germaine to do something. She usually takes the initiative to come up with eccentric plans of her own, regardless of what she has been specifically asked or told to do. The more vague your instructions, the more out of control her ideas will become. The best you can hope for is that she doesn’t get distracted along the way, because more often than not she forgets what her original goal was. The one person immune to Anni’s schemes would be her mother, of course, who she tends to be faithful to...most of the time.

Strengths:
*Sports: Gerri has a natural talent for physical activities, particularly soccer.
*Charismatic: She loves talking to people and making friends, probably more than she likes soccer.
*Great listener: Going along with the above strength, she absorbs information on other people like a sponge.
Weaknesses:
*Following instructions: Yeah, good luck with that. Basically all instructions are altered to fit her own plans.
*School: She knows gossip like the back of her hand, but is far less interested in what’s going on on the blackboard.
*Clingy: She hates to let people go, and loves to follow older people around. Anni’s like the younger sibling that always wants to tag along.
Fears:
Dogs. She really hates dogs. Even the smallest, calmest, cutest puppy is seen as a humongous, loud, slobbery mess by her. This irrational fear spawns from a neighbor’s dog that mauled her when she was seven. Luckily, the beast did little more than shred her pant leg before its owner rescued her, but she was traumatized and has feared all dogs, big or small, ever since.
Another thing she fears is the occurrence off an ice age. Many bad things would come of this including (but not limited to) eternal winter, being stuck inside, and widely accepted use of (insert ominous music) SLED DOGS.
Secret: Anni use to have a pen pal when she was in elementary school, but their correspondence stopped when she was in fifth grade. After that she continued to write letters addressed “Dear no one” and keeps them in a manila envelope. It acts as her diary.
Family Ties
Father: Shane Michael Sharpe
Mother: Charlene Marie Sharpe
Siblings: Ernest Joseph Sharpe
Any Other Important People: Anni use to have a goldfish named Goldie (she’s an original little thing), but gave it to her younger brother before going to Hammel.
History
There once was a child named Germaine Annika Sharpe who lived in Colorado. The name came from the girl’s grandmothers Germaine and Ann, Annika being an alternate version of Ann that her young parents preferred. She was born on November 17th, 1996, and brought home to a small ranch style house in Craig, Colorado two days later. Germaine’s father, Shane, worked at the town power plant as an engineer, and her mother, Charlene, was a homemaker.
It was clear from a young age that Germaine, or Gerri as she quickly came to be known amongst her family, was a social person. Even as a baby she loved to goo and gah at any stranger who ventured in the vicinity of whatever baby apparatus she happened to be lying in. By the time she could talk, she had made friends with every person and their mother that lived nearby. To them, she was known as Anni.
Germaine began participating in sports practically as soon as she could walk. It all started with gymnastics when she was two and progressed to ballet when she was three. Although the child enjoyed tumbling around on the mats, she was not a fan of dancing, so at the age of four, her parents moved her out of ballet and into karate. This was better suited for her, but still not something she truly loved to do. Within the next couple of years, she had tried out T-ball, another dud of a sport, and soccer. Soccer turned out to be Germaine’s forte. Throughout elementary school she participated in a local league, joining her middle school’s team in the seventh grade.
A new addition to the family came when Gerri was three. The little stranger was called Ernest, or Ernie. Frankly, she thought he was a noisy attention-whore who smelled horrible, so for a long time Germaine wanted nothing to do with him. It wasn’t until after she started school that she started to like her baby brother. He was learning to talk, and smelled bad less often by then.
Anni started school at the young age of five, just slipping into kindergarten despite of her late birthday. The first few school years were easy, and she faired pretty well in basic skills. It wasn’t until things started getting complicated in fourth grade that her academics started to slip ever so slightly. By the time she reached middle school, she wasn’t doing much better than average in all classes except PE.
As it turned out, one of the institute’s scouts was acting as a guidance councilor at Germaine’s middle school. The woman happened to be sitting in on one of Anni’s science classes, doing one of those teacher reviews, when she noticed something peculiar about the girl. Anni was drawing attention to herself, loudly fighting with her lab partner over whether or not it was necessary to tell the teacher about something or other wrong with their equipment. The scout approached the seventh graders and asked them about it. Apparently the class was conducting a simple lab on pH, but all the indicator strips were coming up with low pH ratings, even before they were put in solution.
Her curiosity piqued, the scout contacted Germaine’s parents about running some tests on their child to see if she had abilities. Shane and Charlene were hesitant to allow such action at first. They weren't believers in meta-humans. Of course, a simple demonstration fixed that problem. They weren't complete believers, but it was enough evidence to convince them to allow Anni to be tested. Some blood drawing and lab testing later, and it was clear that Anni was the culprit. It wasn’t long before she was at Hammel taking her first classes. She wasn't happy about it, being only 12 and all (plus she had to leave all her friends and her soccer team behind), but over the past year, she's warmed up to the school. It's starting to become her second home.
Roleplay Example
The sound of a fork scraping against the bottom of a nearly empty plate resonated from the dining room. Anni was the last of her family to finish dinner, and everyone else had retired to the den. Everyone except her mother, anyway, who was heading there at the moment. Anni's eyes tracked the woman until she was in the other room, and within the minute three pieces of broccoli were sitting in the ten-year-old's dress pocket, wrapped in a napkin. “Maaaaawwwwm! I finished,” she shouted, “So I’ma go outside.” She quickly jumped out of her chair and ran towards the sliding back door.
“Hold it,” her mother said from the den, causing the girl to freeze mid-stride. “Let me see first.” Anni sighed heavily and dragged her feet back to the table then over to the den, holding out the plate she grabbed in route for her mother to examine. “Hmm…” She seemed convinced for a moment, but mother knew child. With lightning speed, she reached into Anni’s pocket and pulled out the bundle. “Aha! What do we have here?” she asked. The busted child just bit her lip as her mother unwrapped the veggies. “These don’t look eaten to me. Have you anything to say?” Anni just turned her eyes downward to stare at her feet. “Alright then, to your room. Don’t come out until I say you can.”
“Awww, but maaawwwwm.”
“No whining or you’ll be up there all night. Now, march!”
Anni popped out her lip in an overdramatic pouty face then turned tail and climbed the stairs to her second floor bedroom. The mother sighed and tossed the abandoned broccoli in the trash, then spent the next couple of minutes preparing a cup of tea and listening to her daughter scrambling about in the above room. “Better not be playing games up there,” she shouted, “No soccer in the house.”
Up in her bedroom, Anni squealed at her mom’s warning and jumped into bed. The scrambling had actually been the girl excavating her desk, searching for a blue gel pen so she could whine to her non-existent pen pal in a letter to no one. She had found the writing utensil seconds before. The manila folder she kept her letters in was already sitting on her bed, waiting for its new addition. Anni picked it up carefully as if it were a baby animal. For a moment, she just ran her finger across the protruding edges of loose-leaf paper. Finally, she selected a sheet and, using the manila folder as a writing surface, began to spill her heart out.
