Shoe shopping chaos.. (Trapper)

Avi was in the mall today and she was not happy about it. The reason? Her running shoes had worn a hole in them. Sighing Avi looked around. She hated shoe shopping. She had huge feet and she was really sensitive about them. Her parents told her it was because of her feet that she grew so much and was tall. To Avi that was not a good reason to have huge feet. The trouble is though, they were wide too. Does anyone actually know how hard it is to find shoes that are a women’s size eleven and wide? Especially when you were looking for good quality running shoes. Sighing she picked up a pair and looked at them. She doubted they would fit but she had to try.

Making her way over to the sitting area of the shoe store she looked around to see if there was anyone else experiencing the pain of shoe shopping. Luckily for her there was only one other person in the store barring the sales people, so Avi was able to take off her own shoes and try the running shoes on. Hopefully she would be saved the embarrassment of having anyone else see her…. And her hideous feet.

Her mother had sent her some money for some new shoes because she had only the one pair that she came to Hammel with and they didn’t match most of her clothes and the stares from the other students had started to wear on her, but it was one comment snickered behind her back that had her there today.

The smell of rubber from the shoes made her feeling sick so she knew she had to get her shoes and get out, quick.

She went to the kids section and started to look at the shoes in the size 3 area, but none caught her eye. Trapper was happy to have the store to herself save one person who looked familiar but she couldn’t for the life of her remember who or from where.

A nice sales lady had come over offering her woman’s sized shoes, but none would fit her very small feet. Trapper again looked at the other girl in vain trying to remember where she met the girl before.

After abandoning the idea of getting shoes, she walked up to the girl, giving her the once over before asking her “Excuse me, where do I know your from, you look so familiar”

Avi had tried on shoe, after shoe, after shoe, only to not find any shoes that it her and fit her well. After what seemed like the hundredth shoe( which was only the tenth pair) she was approached by a slightly smaller girl who was looking at shoes also. Looking over at her Avi thought. She honestly couldn’t remember where she had seen her beore. She must not have made a huge impression on her if she wasn’t able to remember her name and face. That was one thing Avi was excellent at. Remembering people, that was.

“ Maybe around school?” Avi looked at her. Why couldn’t she place her? This was really annoying Avi. “ Ok I’m Avi who are you? I know you from somewhere I just can’t place you.” Smiling at her Avi leaned down to try another pair of sneakers on. Woah, they were perfect. Avi got up and stretched. She walked around the store a bit before returning to the girl. “ FIINALLY!” Grinning Avi looked at the other girl. “ Guess I’m getting these ones. How bout you? Any luck on your shoe hunt?”

She cocked her head to the side her mind trying hard to remember where she last saw the face before her but it was useless, her head lowered slightly in defeat as she flipped her long locks of blonde hair away from her pale skin. “I’m sorry, I don’t remember, but you look so familiar” Trapper couldn’t help but stare at the girl before her and after a few moments she spoke again.

“I’m sorry where are my manners? I’m Trapper, Trapper Petano” she took a deep breath as she continued “I goto Hammel over there” she gestured with her thin arms.

Avi looked at the other girl with a slight frown that slowly turned into a smile. “ It is all good. Don’t worry about it I have been at Hammel since I was eleven. Probably saw you in the halls or something.” Avi looked at her. What was she staring at her for? Did she have something on her or something? Sighing she looked down again. What in the world had she done this time to offend her?

Shaking the girls hand as she introduced herself Avi smiled. “Avinea Jale, Avi for short. Nice to meet you.” Avi had to chuckle when the other girl gestured towards Hammel. “I see, so what can you do if you go to Hammel?” What? Avi was curious. She always was.

“I see, so what can you do if you go to Hammel?” The question was short and to the point but one Trapper hesitated to answer to.

“What can I do?" She repeated the girls question not really wanting to reply but with a deep breath she did. “I can hear animals speak” the words came out quickly and without true thought to them, she was rather embarrassed by the whole situation, she involutedly blushed.

The long blonde locks she would nervously twirl between her fingers, her eyes always looking for a way out and yet she stood there with the girl almost afraid to move.

Her head leaned slightly, the stores lights hitting her blue eyes making them look almost white, her fair skin reflecting it as she body slightly moved as she spoke to the girl.

“And what can you do?” She asked wondering curiously.

Avi waited for the other girl to answer her question. The look on the other girl’s face was a bit shocked, almost afraid when she had asked that question. Sighing Avi waited for Trapper to answer. This girl was a bit too meek, but it had yet to bug Avi a lot. Almost like a fly buzzing that’s all. Avi was sure in time she could get the girl to loosen up some.

Avi listened as the girl repeated her question and watched her with an easy smile. When she said her power Avi smiled even more. “ That’s awesome I wish I knew what animals were saying. I wonder if they are insulting us most of the time or laughing at humans simplicity? So what are they normally saying? Or does it depend on the animal? Do they have distinct personalities or are all animals the same?”

Avi was suddenly aware of the girl’s slight , well more then that, discomfort. She was fiddling with her hair and her eyes were glancing from the door ad back. Was Avi really that scary? Sighing she looked to the other girl. “If I am asking too many questions just tell me to shut it and I will. I don’t bite don’t worry. “ Avi smiled and tried to reassure the girl she was harmless.

Avi’s eyes lit up when the girl asked what she did. Smiling, and even though it was indoors, Avi focused on bringing a small breeze from the Air Conditioning unit over to the two girls. “ I have Aerokinesis. Control of the air.” Avi made the wind pattern hit the girl in the face slightly. “ Though my control is shotty at best and it really is not all that powerful.” Smiling she looked over at the other girl. “ Nothing too scary.”

The many questions that Avi shot off at Trapper made her want to run away, yet she didn’t run she forced a smile as she spoke “They are scared of us, each one does has a personality, they think of survival, getting enough food and finding a good place to sleep” taking a deep breath she continued “and they are not insulting” she said with a sharp condescending tone to her voice. ‘Why do people always think animals are insulting?’ Trapper thought to herself as she sat down placing her hands into her lap, her eyes staring at the floor, she was feeling rather depleted, she didn’t mean to sound so sharp it just came out before she could even think of what she was saying.

She looked up at the girl as she apologized for asking so many questions of her then she told her what she could do, something called Aerokinesis, the control of air and with that the girl shot a short blast of air into her face, Trapper instinctively turned her head but turned it back to face the girl again.

“Neat trick” She said with a soft whisper, her head slightly lowered almost like a puppy about to get a scolding.

Avi watched as Trapper shakily answered all of her questions. “That’s pretty cool.” She watched as the girl got a weird look on her face as she said in a snotty tone of “No they are not insulting!” This girl was seriously getting on Avi’s nerves. All she was trying to do was be friendly. It was like the girl had mood swings. First meek, shy, and mousy then down right snobby. Avi realized that she had gotten what she was trying to say wrong. “ I meant to say that the animals were laughing and insulting the humans for our utter stupidity.” Sighing she looked at the other girl. “ No offense was meant by what I said.”

Avi watched as the girl reacted to the blast of air she was making happen . She watched as the girl was obviously against it. Sighing she let the breeze go again. She didn’t want to use her power if she did not have to. After all, it obviously was not appreciated.

Looking at the girl who obviously thought she was in for a punishment of some sort from her body language Avi sighed. “ Thanks.” It was obvious this girl did not know how to react to her. Sighing she looked over at her. “ Why do you look so forlorn?”

“ Why do you look so forlorn?” aviena asked her, her shoulders shrugged “I don’t know” she looked down at her feet then looked up at Aviena flipping her long hair out of the way of her face while doing so “Did you find any shoes? I can’t find anything” Trapper said as she put back on her flats, her stomach aching from not having anything in it.

“I’m starving, do you want to get a bite to eat?” she offered to even pay the tab, after all she didn’t get any shoes so she would have enough to cover the both of them, and of course she was avoiding the subject of abilities again, even after her talk with Cath.

Avinea looked at the girl as she Just shrugged and didn’t really answer her question. Sighing she looked at her some more as she appeared to be thinking. When the girl Asked if she had found any shoes she sighed. Did the girl not see the shoes on her feet? Or remember that she was running around the store before shouting “yes Finally!” Sighing she looked down again. “ Yea I just got these sneakers. Now I have to go pay for them.” it was not that Avi did not like the other girl, it was just that she was getting on her nerves very fast. As she went over to the cash register and paid Avi smiled at the thought of when Trapper asked her to eat.

At least she was trying after all. Smiling softly at the other girl she looked at her. “Where to?” Avi knew that she had to be at least friendly to this other girl. Avi figured it would be rude to reuse her, and she knew that this girl was probably just shy and not the one who was used to socially expenditures such as shoe shopping. “ So where are we eating?”

Trapper thought Avi was lucky, she found some shoes, unlike herself her feet being to small to fit into anything nice that didn’t look like some kind of kiddy shoe. She followed Avi as she paid for shoes, silently waiting until she done.

Trapper asked her if she wanted to go eat, as she hated to eat alone so when Avi asked her she shrugged her thin shoulders “I don’t know anywhere you like, I have enough money for the both of us.” she got up taking her purse, swinging over her shoulder and flipping her hair out of the way of her fair skinned face with the golden like silk of locks for hair. There was a distant look to her hypnotic light blue eyes that seemed full of hope that she would one day be able to control her so called gift.

“please you choose” Trapper insisted.

Avi looked over at the girl that was looking and had followed her when she had went to pay. It was unfortunate that she was not able to find any shoes to fit her seemingly tiny feet. Avi knew that she was going out on a limb here but she might as well be polite to the girl if they were going to go eat at the time. “ Don’t worry you will find shoes next time”

Avi watched as the girl got her bearings together and gathered her stuff. Avi put the shoes back into the box, after paying for them and changed back into her regular old flip flops. Sighing after hearing Trappers words she looked over at the other girl “What are you in the mood for?” Avi looked around, seeing as it was almost time for her to eat. Walking out of the store she looked back at Trapper and motioned to her.


“You coming? And hey if you cant decide we can always just go to the food court.” Avi looked at the other girl hoping that that would suffice for enough of an answer. “ More variety.”

“Don’t worry you will find shoes next time” Avi said to her as she glanced momentarily down at her tiny feet and silently hoped that was true, maybe something without little ponies or hello kitty on them.


“What are you in the mood for?” broke her out of her train of thought ‘mood? what mood?’ Trapper and her social skills clearly lacking here, she just shrugged her shoulders at the question as she turned and looked out the window as Avi finished paying for her shoes.

“You coming? And hey if you cant decide we can always just go to the food court.” “More variety.” Avi told her as she found her way back to her, nodding in agreement.

Trapper was so thankful that the mall was well away from the animals for the moment, she was out as Cat wanted her to be, even though she felt awkward being out with someone new, yet she hoped this would be a learning experience, a positive force in her negative world. After all you can’t just have one friend after all right? Aren’t they like ruffles? You can’t just have one!

At the food court she unable to decide on what to eat, everything looks so good and the smells are even more heavenly! Eying a china town food place she heads over, she looks over to Avi wondering if this spot was ok? But it’s a food court she could get something she liked and meet at a table right? Trapper hands ten dollars to Avi even though she said she'd pay her owe way she still wanted to treat her. "I’ll meet you at a window seat if that’s ok?"

Avi glanced at the other girl as they started walking towards the food court. It seemed that the petite blond was lost somewhere in her own world. There was no way she was getting the other girl out of it. Smiling slightly Avi just watched the other people keeping silent, as they made their way towards the food court.

Avi was, to say, slightly out of it seeing as she made her way towards the direction of all the smells of food. She was essentially, window shopping. She had spent most of her money on her shoes but she still had some left over for lunch. Just enough for her. Smiling as the smell of the foods caught her nose Avi practically floated into the food court. Everything smelled so yummy.

Avi watched as trapper seemed to navigate towards the Chinese food place. Honestly, Avi was in for pizza, and the pizza booth smelled heavenly. She did though start to pay attention to the girl as she tried to give Avi money to pay. Avi’s face scrunched up and she shook her head. “ That sounds good, but I will pay or myself.” Avi walked towards the pizza booth and got a slice of sausage pizza and a Pepsi. She also grabbed a couple of cookies. Just enough for lunch.

Smiling Avi made her way back to the table which trapper had mentioned and sat down to wait for the girl. She took a sip of soda and her face was smiling as she saw the girl approach with her own food. She looked up at the other girl as she approached with her food and came closer. Maybe Avi was just hungry. Maybe that was why this girl had been getting on her nerves. Avi figured if that was the case she had better hurry up and eat something.
