Lani looked at her long hair sympathetically, he was really glad he had short hair, this mud would be no problem to get out. Chances were that Shapiro would spend quite a bit of time trying to get it all out. He rolled his head back as he laughed. “You’re a regular gangster,” he teased, “You should start a biker gang.” He chuckled knowing full well that she was about as far as one could get from a gangster. Though given the right circumstances and her personality Lani wouldn’t have been surprised if she did head a gang. She was certainly not the kind of girl to roll over and just do what someone told her.
Lani couldn’t fight back a laugh as she huffed, she was too cute. “’Ey, language,” he scolded lightly, those words had no place coming out of someone her age. The time that his own sister started swearing was the day that Lani just passed out. In retrospect when Lani was her age had been exposed to far worse and unfortunately for his mother no amount of soap was going to clean his mouth, but he had found that he preferred to do without swearing. He raised a finger, “If swearing is the only word you can think of, it’s not worth saying,” he advised curious to see if she would take his words to heart or just blow him off.
He chuckled not losing his smile the whole time he was trying to advise her. She was such a punk. “That’s good to know,” he commented with a grin and reached out to pat her on the head, “One less thing I have to worry about. But just out of curiosity, what were you doing falling off of the second story?”
As mud chipped off of her face he wondered absently what he must look like. He knew his hair was brown at the moment and he was sure he would blend in rather well with the dirt had he laid down. His clothing was going to have to go through the wash, perhaps more than once. Most definitely more than once he thought as he looked down at himself. He looked up at her as she started speaking and a small smile hung on his lips. His eyebrows rose and his eyes went wide and he had a rather classic slack jaw expression on his face. “Wow,” he muttered after a few moments. That was impressive, his power had problems with that, hell, his power could toss cars but he couldn’t even hope to even lift one an inch. This girl could do what his power could do with her own hands.
Lani closed his mouth once he realized it was still hanging open. He gave her a mock glare and put a hand to his chest and fell back in the mud as if struck. “Ouch! I’m only seventeen.” He said still flopped on his back. Yeah he was going to be eighteen soon but she didn’t have to know that. He frowned losing his smile for the first time since they had been mudslinging. He sat back up and drew his knees up and rested his arms on them. “Truthfully,” he said pausing to look at her weighing to options on lying. “I’m no good at this whole powers thing, so since I don’t have the control, I don’t graduate. Simple as that.” Not simple as that, he wasn’t about to be the bad influence on her by telling her he went to class so rarely the teacher mostly didn’t know his face.
