“It’s quality that matters,” Stefan explained. “Not quantity.” He wiggled his eyebrows as he smiled at Greg. Although if Stefan was truthful with himself he sometimes felt that more friends were better than one or two close friends. He wasn’t against having someone close who he could count on, but he felt he had better odds if he knew more people. And better odds meant a better chance he wouldn’t be alone.
Stefan was glad at Greg’s reaction to his assumption that Greg was dating Josh. Even if tonight didn’t end as Stefan has original thought it might, the fact that Greg wasn’t dating Josh meant there might be a chance in the future. “Sean Neville,” Stefan said. That name sounded a bit more familiar. “He works up at Hammel, correct?”
“Well looks like you’ve got some good friends there,” he continued. “Can’t say I’ve ever had one who would give me a house.” He grinned at the thought, but he was only half joking. Sounded like Greg’s friends were the kind you held onto. This camping trip was starting to sound better all the time.
And Stefan realized he had hit yet another dead in for a conversation topic. He got the feeling that his new friend was the sort of man who had a few topics he didn’t like to discuss. But Stefan was okay with that. After all, everyone had conversations they did their best to stay away from. “Yes,” he said, laughing. “I do believe I am enough of a reason.”
“I write for the local paper,” he said. “Mostly human interest stories. Although I keep trying to convince my editor to let me start a advice column from the love doctor.” He smiled, taking a long drink. He was a little sad that Greg seemed to be putting a hold on the flirting. But then again, company was company. Stefan just wanted to be around other people, no matter what the relationship. “Yourself?”
