Smiling weakly, Cam didn’t know how to put it in a way she would understand. “I don’t know, I guess everyone deserves to be trusted. I don’t have anything to hide, I just didn’t see how my story was lying until now.” Really, he honestly didn’t. “I trust you because you just accept me as I am.” Warts and all. Cameron may pretend to be a prince, but he knew he was far from it. He was just some trailer trash boy from California with a knack for thrill seeking. He wasn’t special, but he did like making people smile. So this, this was devastating for him.
After listening, Cameron understood better than before as to why Mia wasn’t interested in any type of romantic relationship. “I know what it feels like to be abandoned by those you love,” he said, a peace offering. He took a look at the spot by the pond where he had sat next to Ravyn. “I know what it feels like to be second best, and I’m not just talking about Ravyn.” No, he was talking about his mother. He gave her a hard look. “You’re still my friend. A little rain isn’t going to drive me away.” He was a fierce friend, and if she yelled at him again, he would accept it. He had been an ass, and it wasn’t everyday he opened up like this to someone.
“Come on, let’s go inside,” he said, his mind dwelling on what she said as he tugged her along by the hand. Cam pushed his sopping hair out of his face upon entering Hammel. Who knew this would be such a weird day. Mia wasn’t the only one with issues. Cam just couldn’t say no, to anyone. “I don’t think it’s fair for Ravyn to date someone else and then if that doesn’t work out, come back to me,” he chanced a glance at Mia. He wanted to ask her what she thought, help him develop a backbone and say no to Ravyn, but Mia was already in the middle of this fiasco and Cam just didn’t have the heart to hurt her more, especially when he hadn’t wanted to in the first place.
