Lani gave Malcom a sour look but he couldn’t dispute that. But was it really illegal if he lived here? Lani wrinkled his nose, “It sounds so bad when you say it like that.” He smirked and with a grin he stretched out like a cat for a moment. “What’s a curfew?” He asked slyly. Now he was just striving to be annoying. Lani raised a brow when Malcom yawned. Maybe he could pull the wool over the eyes of the sleepy man. “Don’t you think it’s a little ridiculous?” He asked leaning forward a lazy look on his face. “I mean giving curfews to adults, and freaking out because someone broke into a library. I mean, seriously,” he shook his head at Malcom, “Don’t you have anything better to do?” Now he was making a jab at security as a whole. They couldn’t stop him. So what if Malcom had gotten him this night. He would do better next time. He wouldn’t be caught next time. Because, now that he had this book hidden on his person he was bound to come back for more.
Lani only shrugged. “Whatever, man, I don’t care.” But he did. He cared a lot. He was Lani Hunter. He could be famous for all that he had done, well rather infamous. But Lani grinned a little bit and shook his head. He could only feint not caring for so long but he found it kind of funny. That after all that happened tonight that he would get some half assed apology from the security guard. “I shouldn’t take you seriously? So I can go?” He gestured at the door but made no move toward it. He knew better than that but he felt like he could say it and get away with it.
A snort from Lani showed he didn’t really believe him. “Good enough to use them,” he retorted, he had a high standard for the military but Lani was under no assumption that they wouldn’t use weapons put in their hands. Lani cocked is head interested, why didn’t they use Malcom until he ran into the ground. He was a telekinetic and as far as Lani knew in terms of war they were a power much desired. “Were you afraid of friendly fire? From other non-metas I mean.” Was it possible that someone jealous or even hateful of metas could have turned their gun on Malcom. Not that it would have done much. Lani assumed that he could stop bullets, he had never tried but he could stop things just as fast. So he assumed Malcom could do something similar, or if even get that force field thing that he had pulled on Lani. Lani wasn’t sure why he was playing twenty questions now with Malcom. He was just interested.
A laugh was pulled out of Lani as Malcom smiled as sarcasm dripped from his voice. He grinned back at Malcom and gave him a regretful gaze as he shrugged dramatically, “Shocking I know.” Authority was Lani’s bane. Anything that tried to shackle him to rules and regulations was something to be fought against. Sometimes, like with Malcom, he could like the person but hate what they represented. Lani paused in his power exploration to listen. He nodded liquid certainly wasn’t floppy. It spread everywhere and it scared Lani that it went in so many directions that he wasn’t able to focus it and make sure it didn’t cause any trouble when his back was turned. That was why he tried so hard to keep it locked away. But like water it seeped through cracks in his shields. “Ok,” he said to let the older telekinetic know he was listening. Channel it.
He started to focus and a small smile flickered on his face as Malcom implored him to go slowly. He did. He closed his eyes and slowly raised his walls around his power and thinking of it as a river he channeled into a single line. It quickly changed from small streams in millions of directions to a single raging river. Lani’s brow creased as he tried to rein in the power he held. Focusing so hard his head started to pound Lani’s eyes snapped open and he released his power. The remaining books that had been still scattered around the library shook to life and like they were being sucked down a stream they shot around the bookshelves and Lani was able to slow them enough so that the remaining books were in a random pile on the floor. His power buckled and the river broke free and in Lani’s scramble to contain it it exploded into a million direction, thankfully less strong streams. The room shook as his power surged against the walls and back lashed on him. He grabbed his head and holding it in his arms he rested it on his knees letting out a pathetic, “Ow.”
