Kevin missed the pool. The more time he spent at Hammel, the more he was starting to learn about his power. Being able to talk to fish and breathe underwater was the coolest thing that had ever happened to him. He didn’t think it could get better than this. But he was learning that every power had a side effect. His, was that he was starting to find it harder and harder to be away from water. Honestly, he didn’t think he was a fish! As long as he had a water bottle with him at all times, his vision didn’t get too fuzzy.
Studying outside was still a possibility in this weather that was getting steadily colder. Still, it was better than being indoors, as far as studying went. Kevin sighed, reaching for his water bottle as his eyes darted over his General Science textbook. He just started high school, and so far, Physics was stumping him. Kevin shook his water bottle, but not a single blessed drop emerged. Aw, what a downer! He put down the bottle and stared at the pond hungrily. Those koi fish were extremely dumb, but they still managed to make him smile with some of their lame jokes, even though he’d heard the same one like, six times now.
Taking a look around, Kevin noticed he was the only one here. He stood, taking one last look, before tearing off his shirt and pants and jumping into the pond. It was the best feeling in the world, like every one of his pores had been parched and now they were alive. He sighed, glad no one could see how small he was. His mother had said he would reach a growth spurt yet, but he tried not to think about it as he floated in the pond, the fishes asking him why he was interrupting their laps around the pond, which he happily told them could use a surprise like him.
