Starry Night ... Mia

[Mia Bell]

Mia laughed “yeah not a lot of people would, but when you are born into it and have lived in the climate almost all your life you totally get used to it. I actually miss it very much. Though if you really think about it… It’s an easy excuse to cuddle up to your crush or girlfriend, or boyfriend…” She shrugged; body heat, you just had to love it in cold weather. “So I’m guessing you’re not ready for winter to come around?” She herself was waiting for it; winter was her favorite season.

“Yeah America’s are spoiled and much more relaxed than most countries it would seem.” Was she calling herself spoiled? Maybe but she had grown up in Barrow, Alaska; which wasn’t the greatest city to live in if you wanted to be a spoiled American. “I’m sure you’ll get used to it in no time. Especially if you make a lot of American friends” She grinned at him “or you know start dating Americans..” She wasn’t trying to imply anything. Her mind wasn’t going there tonight, she wasn’t even trying to flirt with him and he as pretty cute. She wondered what was up with all the good looking Asians coming to Hammel...

Mia felt like she was leading them in circles now. She stopped and looked around “Does that tree look familiar to you?” She pointed at a random tree, yeah that was a stupid question, every tree looked the same. She scratched the back of her head “I think I got us lost..” She made a 360 degree circle; looking around at the surroundings. She sighed, she had no clue where they were or how to even get back to Hammel; Yeah they were lost and yeah they were probably going to get in trouble for not being back by curfew. “Sorry…” She looked at Chase, if it had just been her it would have been no big deal; but Chase was with her and it was now a huge deal.

"I guess if you grow up with it, it wouldn't be that bad. I'm just not used to it at all." He also didn't have someone else to cuddle up with to keep warm, but he would have to keep that advice in mind. "No, not at all. I just plan on buying the warmest jacket and try to stay inside as much as possible. That's about as far as i've planned."

He couldn't help but laugh at her analysis of the american lifestyle. She knew how the rest of the world saw her country. Though most of the people he had met so far were nothing like what he was told the average american would be like. It took some getting used to, but he thought he was doing a pretty good job integrating into the culture. From some of the stories he'd heard, he was having a much easier time with it. "I'm slowly getting used to it."

He looked at the tree she pointed to, smiling and shaking his head. He couldn't believe she got them lost already, it was funny. "That's okay. We'll find our way back eventually."

“Yeah… After awhile you will get used to it. Just be glad winter only comes around once a year in Vermont.” Where she was from winter was all year, there were no other seasons; it was always cold and almost always snowing and she loved it. “Oh cuddling also work with roommates that don’t mind..” She just had to throw that in there; though she was glad, he hadn’t thought she was hinting at anything because she wasn’t. She would most likely be cuddling up with Kouji as far as roommates go, they already cuddled somewhat anyway. “If you do go outside, go to like a coffee place and get something hot, that way it will keep your hands warm for a certain amount of time and it also keeps your insides warm.” She was all about winter weather “If you want I can help you shop for winter clothing? But it might need to wait till winter cause I don’t know how cold it gets here..”

Mia couldn’t help but smile when he laughed “Hey! I made the stern guy laugh! That’s like the first time you laughed.. I totally feel accomplished now… I can die in peace now.” Okay so maybe her teasing might have went a bit far “I didn’t mean to offend you by any of that…” She quickly added after a moment of thinking on her words. Mia wasn’t an average American, she had grown up in one of the most rural areas of the country or state for that matter. “I’m getting used to it also. It’s just not what I’m used to..”

Mia noticed him smiling and shaking his head “Your inwardly mocking me aren’t you?” She stuck her tongue out, a way to show she was teasing. “yeah… I guess I should have warned you about this possibility.. I’m almost always getting lost somehow or someway..” Mia sighed “eventually is what I’m worried about.. We do have a curfew..” Would the staff take the ‘we got lost’ bit and let them off with a warning?

"I guess that's one thing to be thankful for." it was good to think of positive sides to negative situations. He never really had the trait himself, but it was great when others did. She gave some pretty good pointers all well, which he banked for the cold seasons. "That would be awesome, thanks." he really had no clue what kind of things to buy, it would be nice to have a guide kind of.

"No offense taken." He had always come off as the serious type of person, people always told him. He didn't mean to, he just wasn't an overly cheerful person. "I'm glad i could help you with your bucket list."

"Nooo." he said slowly with smirk. "If we're late I think they'd understand if we explained. Since we're both new it makes it more believable, too." he knew back home an excuse like that would never fly with the staff, but things seemed to be way more slack here, he felt like they could probably get away with a lot more.

Mia nodded “Though, I wish it was winter all year, I miss the snow and cold.” She shrugged “I guess not everyone can win.” she stuck her tongue out at him; she was only teasing. “But I do like how Vermont is the state of four seasons; it’s so beautiful in the Fall.” The only season she didn’t like was summer. “No problem, I’m sure I will have to buy some stuff too…” Considering she only had really heavy stuff and wasn’t sure how cold it got here.

Mia moved to poke him in the side “Why are you so serious anyways? Are you ticklish?” Because if he was she was so going to find it just so she could make him laugh or at least smile. “Bucket list? I don’t have.. I should make one. Oh we should make one together!” That would be fun, and Noah should join in this little activity too and maybe even Kouji and maybe David. She jumped up and down slightly in excitement just thinking about this.

Mia shrugged “I don’t know? Maybe they would think we were lying?” did she have to be completely obvious what the staff would probably think? She guessed she could always go to Dr. Neville to get them out of whatever trouble they would get into for breaking curfew. “I guess it doesn’t matter right now.. What does matter is getting back to the school.” She looked behind them “Shall we try going back that way.” She pointed with her thumb to indicate she was talking about trying to retrace their steps.

"I'm more of a summer person, mostly because I hate being cold." He was glad that he didn't have to grow up in a place that got extremely cold, or was that way all the time. Maybe if he had grown up in a place like that, he wouldn't hate the cold so much, though. "But fall is a close second, it's interesting to watch the change in the colors, it happens so fast some years."

"I'm not that serious, am I?" he gave a slight twitch as she poked his side, not being able to help but smile again. He knew he didn't have to answer her second question about being ticklish, his actions had already done so. "I've never really thought about making one either, but sure." he said with a shrug. He didn't know what kind of stuff he would put on his, but it was definitely something he would think about.

Even though Hammel was less strict then his previous school, they probably still had punishments for students who break the rules. He would like to think that they would believe the two students, but then again, that wasn't very likely. "Are you sure that's the right way?" he joked, turning around to head back the way they came.

“Yeah I guess we are opposites when it comes to that, because I love the cold and hate the heat.” She loved the place she was born in and moving to Vermont in the summer was a huge change for her, she wished her powers had manifested in the winter that way she could gradually get used to the weather change. “I’m sure you will get used to it, though you kind of have to…” Mia smiled and nodded “Yeah it is a close second. But the thought of everything dying it kind of depressing…” Leave it to Mia to see the season as that.

“You are just a bit too serious. You have to loosen up some. But I’m glad I’m helping you with that.” Mia chuckled as he twitched and smiled “Oh I found where you’re ticklish!” She was now going to use that as a weapon when she wanted him to smile or be less serious. “I’m so on a roll tonight.” She loved making people happy; she would do anything to make her friends happy but not to the point where she’s a push over. “Awesome! It will be so much fun!” Making a bucket list was like making goals, and you would get nowhere in life if you didn’t have goals. “It can be something we can bond over.” Bonding was a wonderful thing after all.

Mia was hoping they would be more understanding than she was giving them credit; but she never gave people enough credit when it came to understanding and acceptance. Mia turned to look at him and laughed sarcastically “Oh, look now I’m getting you to joke around, this is turning out to be a wonderful night, don’t you think?” Mia sighed “Though I’m really not sure about anything at this point. You haven’t happen to bring a flashlight did you?”

"Get used to it, or stay inside as much as possible." he fully intended to do the latter, though the clothing Mia was going to help him buy would help with the times where he did have to step outside. The only time he planned on being out in the snow was walking from the school to his car. His apartment had underground parking, so that was nice at least. "Well most of it isn't really dying if you think about it, it all comes back in the Spring."

Chase had always been somewhat of a loner growing up, so never really learned proper social interactions, especially with peers. He used to enjoy being alone all the time, but the older he got, the more he found that he was starting to enjoy being comfortable around other people. He needed practice loosening up around people, but thought that he had at least been getting better recently. "Thanks for the help." he said with another grin, knowing she was going to use her new tickling knowledge in future situations.

He shook his head. "Nope, no flashlight." it was pitch dark now, and there was very little light along their path. "I could be wrong, and I probably am, but I think it's this way." he pointed to a path to the left. Logically going back the way they came should work, but they had been going in circles, or at least he remembered seeing the same tree more then once. "Or this way...." okay.. they were really lost.

“Aw, You can’t stay inside the whole season. Winter is great if you gave it a chance.” If Mia could help it she won’t let Chase waste away indoors during the winter. She missed being able to dog sled this time of year, but she would become slighting depressed when there was snow but no dog sleds. “It dies in the fall and gets reborn in the spring. Weird…”

Mia had been a loner for off and on for a while, in her elementary years she was a loner, but in middle school and the first two year of high school she wasn’t and then she became a loner again the past year and now she wasn’t a loner. It was a weird cycle, and one she had no control over. It wasn’t her doing the times she had become a loner. “Don’t mention it.” She smiled “So, do you have a crush?” This would be interesting.


Mia groaned, then looked in her bag for her cell phone but couldn’t find it. “Crap.. I left my phone in my room..” Now that she remembered, it was on her nightstand charging. “You wouldn’t have happened to bring her cell phone?” She had to ask as she followed Chase. She sighed “I don’t think this is helping… I wonder if anyone would come looking for us if we don’t get back at a certain time…” She looked around as she kept walking bumping into Chase’s back. “sorry… I keep doing that..” She grabbed a hold of his shirt when she heard leaves rustle “What was that?”

"Well then you better make sure you pick out a warm coat for me when we go shopping, or you're the one who will be hearing me complain about being cold." he was only half joking, and knew he wouldn't stay quiet about his discomfort. People seemed keep on wanting to make him like winter. First Dani, now Mia. Well, hopefully they proved him wrong about how miserable he thought he was going to be during the season. And hey, time would pass faster if he was doing fun things with people.

He couldn't help but laugh at her question, shaking his head. "No, not yet at least. The only girls I really see are my friend Dani, who's into girls, and my room mate. I guess now you too." he added. Well, going from barely speaking to girls at all to having three of them as friends, he wasn't doing too bad.

Chase checked his pockets for his cell phone, to no avail. "I left mine in my car." He could tell that Mia was starting to get worried, he would feel bad if they got in trouble for this. After all, he was the one who asked her to show him around. "It was probably just the wind or a bird." he scanned the area where he had heard the noise come from, but it was no use, even if there was something there he wouldn't be able to see it, it was too dark. "Let's just keep walking."

Mia smiled “Oh I will! And don’t worry you can complain to me all you want. Sooner or later I will get complaining payback.” She stuck her tongue out at him, She was only teasing. She wasn’t a complainer, at least she didn’t think she was. She didn’t mind people complaining but she would tell them to just suck it up. But she was sure she was going to get Chase to at least be content in the winter, and if she did it with Dani’s help that would make it all the more fun.

Mia smiled “Oh I’m sure you’ll find a girl that your into sooner or later. Wait Dani? As in my Dani? Asian Dani?” She wasn’t sure if there was more than one Dani, She adored the girl to pieces, she was actually giving the girl piano lessons.

Mia face palmed herself for forgetting herself phone. “I can’t believe I didn’t bring my cell phone.. Okay than, so can’t call anyone and can’t see and we’re lost. Which is the long way of saying we’re screwed..” She sighed, she said everything lightheartedly; she would never blame Chase for her getting in trouble. “I have gotten lost a lot of times around here but never at night.” She sighed “I’m sorry I got us lost… I should have known this was going to happen.” Mia stayed very close to Chase, yes she was afraid, though she wouldn’t admit it not that she had to she was still holding on to Chase’s shirt with a death grip. “Keep walking right.. We would find our way out of here sooner or later. I don’t like forests now..”

He chuckled a little at her description of Dani "Yup, that would be her." Dani had been one of the first people to talk to Chase since his arrival at Hammel. They became friends pretty quickly, Chase would even go so far as to say she was his closest friend here. "How do you know her?" Well, they all went to the same school, so that was kind of a stupid question.

He really hoped that they weren't going to get into trouble for this. He was just trying to stay calm and focus about getting back to the school. There was no use in worrying about it now. "It's fine, don't apologize." he could sense that she was scared. Her hanging onto his shirt for dear life was one indicator of that. "Just stay close so we don't get split up." not that he thought she would wander off at this point, she would have to take his shirt with her.

Mia chuckled at the wording to his question. “You should have worded that a little differently.” She stopped to think about it, remembering the day they met “But, I was playing the piano in the auditorium and she kind of walked into the auditorium while I was playing. That’s pretty much how we met, and now I’m giving her piano lessons. How did you guys meet?” Dani was a cool girl, very cute, very outgoing, very nerdy, and Mia just loved it all. “Oh I think we have like a class together too?” She wasn’t really sure, she never really paid attention to her classmates.

Mia was glad one of them was calm or seemed calm. She was trying to be as calm as she could but that wasn’t going too well. She sighed “well, one good thing came out from all this…” She made a new friend, and she was glad, happy even and as long as he didn’t make her sad or piss her off they should be fine weather wise. “Okay, You don’t have to tell me twice.” She wasn’t going anywhere, she felt bad that Chase had to put up with her while this panicked. She normally wasn’t like this, than again she normally wasn’t in a forest at night. She was so glad she was with someone else instead of by herself. “How old are you?” Small talk, because she needed to keep talking.

Chase thought back to when him and Dani had met. It wasn't long after he had moved here, not even a couple of days if he recalled correctly. "We met outside the main office, I needed help finding some place.. I don't even remember what now. I guess she could see it, and offered to help me." Dani was such a nice girl, and was the first person to actually acknowledged him from Hammel, other then the teachers.

"I just turned 18 a few days ago." His birthday hadn't been anything special, it came and went like every other day. He didn't want a huge deal to be made about it, had never liked celebrating birthdays. "How about you?"

Mia nodded even though she was pretty sure Chase couldn’t see her head. “Oh that’s cool. Dani is awesome; she’s such a great friend. I love her to bits.” She was just so different from her other friends, granted she had a variety of friends and none of them were anything alike. Chase was pretty awesome as far as dudes went; he was letting her cling to him so that was a plus. She just hoped she hadn’t made a bad impression from getting them lost.

“Oh that’s cool! Happy birthday! Sorry it’s late..” Ever since a year ago birthdays had just became a regular day, there wasn’t anything special there anymore. “I’m sixteen, I actually moved to Hammel the day after my birthday..” She didn’t have that special sweet sixteen most teenagers had. But then again she couldn’t see how it would be special without her father, brothers, and her friends that weren’t her friends anymore.

Mia jumped when she heard the bushes rustle again. “Okay, what the hell is that?” She felt like it wasn’t just the wind, it didn’t sound like just the wind. It sounded like something was walking through the bushes and following them. The sound didn’t stop either which meant it was something. “Why do I get the feeling like we’re in a horror movie?” That was not something that should have crossed her mind. “Oh my god, I’m going to die..” Was this really the way she was meant to die?
