TR: Chasing the Clouds Away (Kateri and Tracy)

"I ended up majoring in psychology so I guess you could say the sciences won me over, eventually." He smirked slightly. Although some people saw psychology as both an art, and a science. It was a hard to say where he stood, but it was probably somewhere near the fence.

The wind picked up suddenly, and Tracy leaned back into it, doing his best to stay afoot. "I promise not to be too hard on you, this time." Maybe they could try this battle of winds once more, when she wasn't expecting and Tracy wasn't worried about hurting her badly.

Beams of sunlight began to shower down on Kateri, and Tracy rose an eyebrow. "Very nice, angelic even." He splayed his hand out in front of her as though she might be on display. "It suits you." This couldn't be an all wind battle, that would be boring.

Kateri shrugged. She’d heard it was more of a soft science, but she came from—well, mathematics. It wasn’t exactly science and it sure hadn’t been practical, but she’d enjoyed it and she thought she was doing pretty well. Besides, she’d read psychology textbooks and that stuff was hard. So who cared? “Interesting that you wound up as a recruiter,” she said. “Guess you couldn’t stay away, huh?”

She knew she had an advantage in this and grinned, reducing the wind a little bit with a slight wave of her hand. In truth, she’d always been better at storms. Her brother was the one who was good at wind. Her father had joked that it was because of her stormy personality. She hadn’t hit him, but she had rolled her eyes. Repeatedly.

Her eyes flicked up at the sunlight, and then she laughed at his posture and struck a pose, one hand behind head and one on her hip with her head tossed back. She knew it looked absurd while pregnant, so she resumed her normal position. “If you’re trying to flatter me, it kind of worked. Now I feel almost bad. My next move was to summon your own personal raincloud.”

Tracy chuckled. "Well it wasn't my first choice to be honest, but Hammel already has an excellent psychologist, they don't really need me for that position." He sighed. "And I wanted to stay away, but things weren't working out where I was, so I decided to move back in with my mom about a year ago." And then things went absolutely bananas from there.

Laughing at her stance, Tracy clapped his hands together a couple times in applause. "Brava, you're a natural!" At least she knew how to have fun, and she didn't seem too bothered with the fact that she looked silly - it was an attractive part of her personality.

"Okay okay, let's level the playing field," he said, the sunlight dissipating in the clouds again. Tracy looked at the clouds and willed them to rain, and he willed that rain to freeze just a bit to make snow. The white stuff fell from the sky gracefully, melting before it could make anyone sick upon landing. "I promise to stop flattering a woman I can't have," he said, little pellets of snow sticking in his hair, melting, only to be replaced by more.

Kateri nodded, understanding and a little surprised. Sounded like he was a little higher educated than she’d thought—having a PhD at least. Education was pretty attractive, she had to admit. Tattoos and education? Totally not fair. “It sounds like there’s a story there,” she said. And not necessarily a good one. “Maybe I can convince you to tell me over a…” Damn. “Non-alcoholic beverage later?” What good was an Irishwoman who couldn’t drink?

She fluttered her eyelashes at him, not caring if the students saw, then dipped into a not-at-all curtsey and shook her head. “Clearly I missed a career as a model, if I so impressed you. Thank you, Tracy. I might just have to leave my job and go sell maternity clothes.”

Kateri had to admit she was impressed. Although she did not usually try to mess with the weather this much, turning rain into snow was pretty impressive. “If we could only get it to stick, we could have a snowball fight,” she said wistfully. “I love winter.” It did give her an idea, though, and she concentrated the snowfall into one location until she had a neat little pile of snow, then crushed it into her hand and tossed it to him, adding a mischievous grin. “Who said you can’t have me?” Well, she hadn’t completely lost her touch. She hoped. “Besides, flattery gets you everywhere. Might want to watch out for that snow. It has you aging before your time.”

Tracy didn't like pussyfooting around, and really he liked being an open book for other people to read. Not ever aspect of his life was pretty, but thinking that it was was just stupid. Smirking to himself, Tracy crossed his arms in front of him. He had to admit, he wouldn't mind spending more time with her off of school grounds. There was something... Fiery about her. "Frozen lemonade?" He suggested.

"Hey it might be worth quitting your day-job for! I was actually thinking of buying some, that's how fantastic you are," he said all in a rush, as though the very notion of her selling clothes was enough to make him open up his wallet and spend like a frenzied hormonal pregnant women. Of if only he could mime more than just powers...

"Well we could isolate one spot and make it really cold, but that seems like a lot of work just to impress you." He teased. "Not that I couldn't do it." He was a man, he had to show off sometimes, it was in his bravado.

And then she was doing it, and couldn't help but point. "Aha! You stole me idea!" He laughed, letting himself be hit on the shoulder by the snow. He didn't mind, it was actually a nice contrast to the real weather going on around them. So she wasn't off the market then? Sliding his hand over his hair, Tracy had a smile on his face. "You know Kat, I haven't had fun like this in a while." It was refreshing.

Oh, so he did know non-alcoholic beverages. Was this wrong, to be flirting while pregnant? She didn’t want to be one of those women who were always bringing fathers in and out of her child’s life. But on the other hand, he was cute, he was interesting, and it was…fun. She hadn’t had that in a while. “I like it,” she agreed “And it’s even perfect for the weather.”

She rolled her eyes again at his statement. “Yes, and I’m sure they would look fantastic on you,” she agreed, leaning back on her heels as if to inspect him. “Oh, definitely. Particularly one in—purple. It would work wonderfully with your hair.”

“So you’re trying to impress me?” She was not smiling like a loon, except she kind of was. “I’m sure you could do it. For this not being your power, you seem to have a pretty good grip on it. And it doesn’t count as stealing if I did it first. Besides, I already knew it couldn’t be that much work. I think you just wussed out.” She resisted the urge to ruffle his hair. Down, girl. You have better control than that. She tilted her head to the side and smiled right back. “Neither have I.” It was honest. The whole pregnancy situation, despite her friends, had been…stressful. It felt good not to worry about it for a moment.

There wasn't technically a child to be intruding on at the moment, so, he shouldn't feel bad about this right? It wasn't like he had some kind of freaky fetish for pregnant women, Kat was just, intriguing. And so what if she was pregnant, maybe they could both use a little break from the hum drum activity of life. Tracy smiled and pulled out his phone. "Let me just catch your number."

"Yeah purple has always been my favorite color, but black would probably cover my distended belly a lot better," he said, pushing his stomach out as far as it would go, patting it lovingly from underneath. Only for a beautiful woman would he act like such a moron.

"Should I be?" He asked, except he had kind of been trying to impress her this entire time. He put his hands in the air in surrender. "Fine, you caught me. I'm a wuss and I can only do so and so much with everyone's power, sue me." Though really, he wasn't too shabby if he said so himself.

Tracy beamed at the comment and was just about to reply when the bell rang. He shut his mouth as a herd of teenagers rushed past them, obviously uninterested, although one of the younger girls did say hi to their math teacher. "I guess I better let you mold some minds," he said, giving her one last glance before heading off. At least now he had something to look forward to.

Oh my. That had gone—more quickly than she’d expected. Normally, she was gung-ho for this kind of thing. She loved flirting, Tracy was good-looking, intelligent and different, and what was the harm? Terrowin was in Australia, largely out of the picture, and yes, she was pregnant. That added in a wealth of other factors. But she liked Tracy, and reflected that even if nothing came of it, he was fun to have around. This was the most fun she’d had in a very long time. So she leaned over and gave him her number, because she could. And because what was the harm?

He’d gotten her laughing again, and she admired the extended stomach. “Oh, definitely. I see your point. Black suits you much better.”

Kateri eyed him. “Well. I wouldn’t be adverse to it.” She had to be honest about it. “And as for you being a wuss, I might have to reconsider it. If you’re trying to impress me. But you actually have a good grip on weather manipulation. Well done.” Better than a lot of students that she’d known, but she decided not to bring that up in case he didn’t like the comparison.

She did like his beam, though, and sighed mournfully as the bell rang, nodding to the students and eyeing the ones who were lingering. She turned as Tracy spoke, and nodded. “Don’t get into too much trouble,” she called after him, then smiled and headed back into class.
