"Oh, man!" Oriel face-palmed, shaking his head in his hand. "That…does not spell good news for my own progress. Damn…." If Xavier hadn't improved in all this time, then what chance did Oriel have?

"Yeah, that's exactly what I've been thinking since i got here. Got a place to eat, sleep, and don't have to worry about a bunch of self-righteous social workers moving you from one place to another." And foster parents who only decided to take you in for the money. Those guys were the worst, they only acted nice in front of the social workers.

Xavier laughed. I guess they were both going to have to actually try if they wanted to graduate. " Yah that part isn't working out that well but I got a friend who is going to try and help me."

" We are in the same boat as long as I don't burn it down. Yeah, the social workers always said that this house going to be better. " Xavier had hated that they usually wanted money or a baby sitter for their other kids.

"Really? That's kinda awesome? Do I know 'em?" Oriel knew of a lot of people but didn't really know them.

"Meh, I'm still trying to feel these guys out." He shrugged and kicked the dirt beneath them. "If they suck, I'm all for burning it down, might just put in a commission." Oriel laughed. He wasn't being serious, he actually liked this place, for the most part. It'd be a shame if Xavier was forced to go that far, though.

" Her name is Mia and she is my roommate." Xavier didn't know a lot of people and he preferred to keep it that way.

Xavier laughed at Oriel's joke. If Xavier was driven that far off the edge he would never be able to turn back and it would have to be pretty bad. Xavier was dang lucky there were people around him that could stop him if he got that way but he hasn't been that close in a long time. It's amazing how fast that could happen though.

" Have you made any progress on your powers?"

"Mia, huh?" He thought to remember if he knew her or not. "Ain't she that pink-haired chick?" He'd seen her around and heard some stories, but never really talked to her. "Didn't know you guys were roomies."

He shook his head. "I mean, it's not really that hard to do, to take 'em out, but….well, it's putting the stuff back that's hard. Once took me a half-an-hour to do it, and it was still all messed up." Also, what came out was usually pretty weak. Oriel wondered if he progressed enough, that the 'pictures' would be strong enough to withstand…you know, anything. "Plus, I keep trying, but the art-fail makes it all kind of pointless, anyway."

" Yep. That's her with the pink hair." Xavier admired his friends boldness for keeping her hair pink. " She draws too. Maybe she can help you too."

" I guess it would help if you could draw." Xavier had no such problems with his power. He just had no control of it. " What have you been up to these past years. Are you up for a drink." Xavier had no idea if the guy drank but he knew that Oriel wouldn't rat him out if he didn't.

So he had the right girl. Whew, it would've been awkward if it was the wrong one. Why, Oriel didn't know, but he was sure it was better that he was right. "Great, and then instead of you laughing at me, it'll be both you and her." He shook his head and huffed out his irritation. "No, shit. You think I want people to see that?"

Oriel shrugged. "Meh, just the usual, hanging out where I can, trying to steer clear of the man. Seriously, though, I don't think I've had a real drink since...." Man, when was it he last had a drink or a hit or anything? "Shit, has it been that long? Must've been since before I even got here."

" You showed me though." Xavier was good at pointing out the obvious and he enjoyed doing it. " You think I mean to light on fire and potentially hurt people. " Okay maybe that was an exaggeration but still most of the time he didn't mean it.

" That's a long time to go without a drink. Unfortunately I don't have any around at the moment because my stash was taken." Xavier was actually doing ok with out it but then again he still had his secret stash of extra and case someone found his beer and that was safely tucked away.

" If I remember correctly, you were very good at hiding and running." Xavier had done his fair share of running and in his experience it usually caught up to him but that didn't stop him from trying every single time.

"Just 'cause I showed you doesn't mean I like to, capisce?" Oriel pointed at Xavier on his emphasis of 'you.'

"That sucks. Where the heck were you hiding it?" He shook his head. "Gotta find a better place than under your bed, man." Oriel was just teasing. Everyone knew that under the bed was the first place people looked. "Gotta get creative." He snarked and folded his arms across his chest.

"Yep. Not getting caught is my specialty. And you were one of those kids who could actually throw a punch." Funny how they remembered each other based on those kind of stupid things.

Ok, now Oriel was getting comfortable enough to relax around this guy. He stepped around Xavier and plopped himself down on the grass, arching himself back and propping himself up with his elbows. He looked up at the sky. So different than the ones he used to know. "It's a nice day....."

" Not in a very safe place." Xavier admitted, but he still had his secret stash that no had touched and it was looking like he would have to raid it soon. me

" Yah I can still throw one, but you're more likely to get burned then punched." Xavier had pride in himself that he could fight back and was willing to. The only thing he hated was when he wasn't defending himself and someone got hurt.

Xavier followed Oriel's example and sat on the ground. " I noticed otherwise I wouldn't be outside." His powers made him feel nauseous when it was cold.

"I'm surprised they haven't kicked you out for having that shit around." That might be one reason Oriel hadn't had a drink in so long, he was afraid he'd be found out and kicked out of the school. Actaully, that might be the reason why he did a lot of the things he did(or didn't) do, which honestly was irrationally ridiculous, when he thought about it, but the feelings were unavoidable nonetheless.

Oriel snickered at the image of Xavier throwing a flaming punch. "Actually, that'd be kinda cool. Actually, I'd pay money to see that, like, a flame battle or something 'tween you and the Rixon kid. Hot stuff, right there."

"True that, neither would I." Otherwise Oriel would be holed up somewhere on campus taking a nap. But on a nice day like this, he could stand to do it outside. Oriel closed his eyes and enjoyed the warm rays of the sun on his face.

" I'm surprised as well although I am not the only one who causes this kind of trouble." Xavier did get in over his head a lot but he by far wasn't the worst all though he easily could if he got into trouble little more often.

" I don't even know how that Rixon kid does it, or even comes close to controlling his power. " They had never met but would have no idea how to face someone with the same power as him.

Xavier was actually enjoying his day in the hot sun and meeting up with an old friend had been actually good. Although Oriel had changed from when Xavier had been recruited.

"I'm sure." There were quite a few students on campus who've earned the label "troublemaker", Oriel included, though his reputation was vanilla in comparison to some others out there. Especially that Sam Rixon kid, whom Oriel had long-ago decided to just stay away from. "Maybe he meditates in secret or something? Like doing the whole 'sitting under waterfalls and fighting bears' bit?" He cackled at the thought. "Bet you could learn something from that guy," he teased.

This place, this tranquil atmosphere that the Hammel Institute sloughed off onto it's residents, was like a drug. A sedative. Oriel wasn't sure what it was, but he was sure that he was trapped in it like a fly stuck in glue. He struggled so much at first and while he still wanted to break free, he just couldn't. Nowadays, it was like he'd simply…given up. He was smothered, uncomfortable, but unable to move.

Oriel rolled over like a rotisserie, letting the sun catch his back. "I want to go home…" he mumbled, though where that was, the orphan boy hadn't the first clue.

" Yeah right, and get burnt in the process." Xavier didn't trust people much and especially someone who had to deal with the same power as him.

Hammel was a great place, but there wasn't as much a feeling of home. He didn't know what home felt like but it was hard to find for someone who was never accepted into one. " When you find home, tell me what it feels like." Xavier never followed anyone except for himself and it hasn't gotten him very far.

"Heh, I wouldn't even know where to look." Once upon a time, Oriel had thought that NY was home, but now...he wasn't sure where it was.

He watched an ant crawl across a blade of grass in front of him. He wanted to smash it. He wanted to blow it away. But he also didn't feel like moving. Oriel closed his eyes instead.
