Maebelle figured that he was right. Eyes adapted more easily to the dark if you were to close one right before the lights went out. Once outside, opening the second eye again after a bit, everything would have been way more visible. They didn’t have any light with them though, so it hadn’t really been an option. “Part of me doesn’t want to be able to detect things in the dark.” Mae chuckled weakly. She was rather oblivious to her surroundings, just to avoid spotting something that would terrify her.
As for the camp coming into view, some sort of relief washed over. Her sight improved and this became obvious as she grew more confident to walk with a slightly faster pace again. It wasn’t until they finally stepped out of the foliage that the young woman halted for a second. Walk her to the cabin? The gardener gazed up for a second, visibly contemplating it before a small nod was given. “Please.” Not that anything could really happen, but yeah. What girl would decline such offer from a handsome man?
Slowly she retrieved her hand. Standing still, she grew aware of the contact. “Sorry,” Maebelle mumbled with a slightly darker color appearing on her cheeks. Both then got tucked in the pockets of his jacket and she began to lead the way to the cabin. It was only a three minute walk, if even that. Once there, the brunette wasn’t even sure just how close to the door she was supposed to walk. Or how to act or what to say. Giving back his jacket was an option, but… yeah, nope.
“Thank you.” For a lot. Mae couldn’t sum up all the reasons though. It would just end up being a ramble fest. With that, a thumb motioned over her shoulder. “My stop.” She wasn’t even sure who she shared it with yet… but that was the last of her concerns. Right now the woman contemplated just turning around… or hugging him. That might be weird though… hence the reason a small step was taken back. “I’ll make sure you get the jacket back.” When was the perfect timing to step inside though? She didn’t really want to do that before he said his goodbyes. “So, um, good night?” Why sound it like a question? Mae did want to slap herself.
