Monroe did nothing but listen from the moment she'd started speaking. After all, this is all he'd wanted from her. He'd wanted her to open up to him, to just throw everything out there and let it soak in because he wouldn't judge her. And while he didn't understand completely hating himself and wanting to be someone different, he did understand wanting to look in the mirror and like what you saw, especially when he looked in the mirror everyday, all he saw was paler skin and bigger bags under his eyes. Sometimes he wanted to be more eloquent with his words, or more alert, rather than someone who just sat back and let everything fall where it may, he wanted to be more involved, but he guessed that he probably never would be and that's just how things were.
When she finished, his facial expression had softened. "Then be a normal teenage meta-human girl, whatever that is, and give a guy a second chance. Because I seem to recall that it's something teenage girls do." He winked. "And I don't blame you for being tired. I'm tired. Maybe not in the same way, but I understand. And you've realized that you're tired of being this way. You don't have to be that person with me and I won't judge who you've been in the past. It's not important."
The last thing she said is what really got him, what made his lips stretch into one of his lazy smiles. "You think you do?" he teased gently. "Well, in that case..." He felt stupid, as he clumsily got down onto one knee on the icy sidewalk with people all around, but he didn't care. The cold burned his cheeks and he didn't care. "Adaryn Breslin, will you give me the honor of driving you home on this freezing cold day?" His actions were bound to get a reaction from her, as if he was going to ask her to marry him right then and there because she'd said she liked his combat boots.
