For weeks Corbin had been planning.. and it had been more than a week since he'd seen Axelle. Or.. more than a week since she'd seen him. He'd of course gone to her graduation.. because he was proud of her. Why wouldn't he be? It was a big deal. He knew that. It hadn't been that long since he'd graduated himself.. Only he'd done it with no fanfare, no plan, nowhere to go. Axe had things on lock. For how clumsy she swore she was and how aloof she occasionally seemed, she'd really managed to set herself up for success. So Corbin was proud of her, and he'd been there to add his voice to the cheering crowd when she was called across the stage because she deserved it...
But his motivation was also just a touch selfish. Months and months ago now, she'd made him a deal... That if they were still around and talking when she graduated, that he could take her on a date. And not only were they still talking, they'd become closer and closer. More and more comfortable around each other.. Heck, just a bit over a week ago they'd gotten caught out in the rain and a switch had flicked and they'd gotten quite the memorable taste of each other. It had taken every ounce of will he had to stop.. because their deal still stood. And Axe was higher class than passionate makeouts with someone she wasn't even dating.
After tonight, though, no longer a problem. Nope. Corbin had remembered that day like he remembered his own name. And now, the week after graduation, his planning and saving and pulled favors were all in the analogous bucket. He swiped across the screen of his phone and tapped his messaging app, letting out a deep breath slowly through his teeth.
"Hey Red. Congrats on graduating! I hope you got my gift.. You should wear it on the date we're going on tonight, yeah? Dress however you want. I planned for everything. I'll pick you up at 2:30 at the shop. Bring your appetite, tell your dad not to wait up for you."
Of course... despite this not really being a question, Axe could always say no... Which didn't occur to Corbin until after he'd his the 'send' button... That's about when the nerves started to set in.. What if she had to work!?
