Jackson’s life literally flashed before his eyes. He was gone. He was dead. His life was over. They were going to find them guilty of everything, and then tack on a bunch of other stuff just for shits and giggles, then lock them up and throw away the key. That is, if they didn’t pull their guns first and shoot them for resisting arrest. Jackson couldn’t afford to die! He still had so much left to live for!!

Then again, if his life was over anyway with the appearance of a criminal record, then his life was over anyway. Maybe it was better if he didn’t survive this encounter. He didn’t want to have to explain to his auntie why he was in an abandoned house in the middle of the night half naked with another half naked boy. This was bound to get out. Everyone would know. They’d definitely know that he was gay, and then they’d make fun of him! If not the students, then his family for sure! Jackson didn’t want that to happen…

“W-we didn’t do nothing…!” he wailed. “It was already unlocked, and nobody was using the place, so we just….” Jackson sniffled, tears still streaming down his cheeks. “Please, don’t tell my mom! She’s sick, she doesn’t need to know about this, it’ll just make her heart worse off, please don’t tell her!” 1. Jackson’s mother waked out on him when he was still in middle school. 2. he didn’t know what the hell her health was anymore. 3. he planned to give them the number to the local pizza place if they asked for his home phone number. Jackson’s hope was that they’d take pity on the 17-year-old and let him go scot-free. He could hope, right?

As both someone without white skin and a member of the police force, Rhea had extremely powerful, conflicting feelings about the recent media storm surrounding police shootings. It was not a topic to bring up in her presence unless you were related to her, willing to agree with everything she said, or wanted to be shouted flat onto a tabletop. Drawing her weapon on these two hadn't entered her head.

"It was breaking and entering," Rhea replied, and she took Kodi by the shoulders and stood him on his feet. She might end up needing to carry him out to the car. "In some states, anyone at home would have been justified in shooting you on the spot for what you did. Louis," she called, and then began the familiar cant of the Miranda rights. "You are under arrest for breaking and entering."

She folded Kodi's hands behind his back, though she didn't handcuff him. On the other side of the hall, Louis gave the same statement to Jackson. He had ignored the comment about his mother. "You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be provided for you." She pointed Kodi towards the door. "We're taking you down to the station."

From the back door, Louis nodded. He released Jackson from his hold against the wall, though like Kodi his hands remained restrained. "We're going out the front door."

When the woman’s hand met Kodi’s shoulders, he thought for sure he was a dead man. He yelped and flinched backwards, but didn’t move to pull away, too scared she would do something worse if he did. “B-but it was empty….” he whimpered, as though that should make everything okay. Kodi turned to look at his wailing and crying companion, feeling numb despite how upset Jackson was (not to mention the obvious lies he was telling, but Kodi wouldn’t accuse him of that in the situation they were in now). His gaze shot back to the terrifying woman as she spoke again, any remaining color draining from his face as she arrested him.

He gave no resistance as his hands were pulled behind him, only let his head and shoulders slump in defeat. There was no point in struggling now, that would just delay the inevitable (and probably create worse consequences). He didn’t say a word while she told him his rights; it all felt surreal, like they were on a television show or something. When led to the car, he would stumble a little as he tried to get his legs to work again, only a little less terrified now that he didn’t think they were going to get shot. When he got into the car, he would collapse on the seat ungracefully and stare dully at the floor, ignoring whatever Jackson did in his own panic. They may have been friends, but Kodi was far more concerned about himself than he was about the younger boy at the moment.

Breaking and entering? That’s it!? Why did that deserve an arrest?? Jackson clearly didn’t know the severity of the crime, they’d just been trying to find a private place to…do their business. “It was unoccupied!” he argued. “We knew there was nobody here!” Why did that still make it a crime! It wasn’t like there was anything to steal!

Jackson’s spirits completely fell as he heard the miranda rights recited off to him. Like that was the force that drove it home. They were done for…. Jackson stopped struggling by this point, and stopped his wailing as well. If they wanted him to be silent, then…he would. They weren’t getting a single thing more from him, he decided as he was walked to the blue and white car outside.

He fell into the seat beside Kodi in the back of the cop car, tears still streaming down his face. His auntie was going to kill him…he was going to get kicked out of the house. His dad was going to find out, and be disappointed in him. He’d even let Rue down. Why did this have to happen? Jackson kept his head down much like his companion did. Then he shoved the other boy with his elbow. “This is your fault…” he grumbled quietly, just loud enough for Kodi to hear. Because placing blame was obviously the most important thing right now.

Rhea and Louis walked the two boys out to the waiting cop car. Their grips were firm but not painful, and they were escorted to the car rather than pushed into it head first like they were probably expecting. Louis locked them into the back seat, then Rhea started the car and Louis shut up the house. When Louis returned, Rhea turned around and spoke through the metal grating that separated the front and back seats.

"I'm going to release the suppression on both of you," she said. "If you try anything between here and the station, it'll double your sentence at least. What are your powers?"
