To be honest, Gene wanted to do a lot more than just slap Kodi. He wanted to outright beat him over the head with a hammer! But that would probably kill him and murder was illegal in this country, and attempted murder very frowned upon. So he settled for a slap that actually hurt his hand a lot more than he anticipated. Enough that he could probably have teared up from it if he wasn’t going to do that already.
Gene held his stinging hand, his head still dropped and face contorted in his upset, the tears streaming readily down his cheeks. Gene shook his head when Kodi said he shouldn’t have called Gene. No…he shouldn’t have had to call Gene, is what the boy wanted to say, but he couldn’t get anything out save for a few incoherent syllables.
Damn right he wasn’t going to do it again! That’s what he wanted to say also, but the most he could manage then were a few nods and a coupled sound that resembled one of affirmation. Damn that Kodi….twice in one month he’d managed to make Gene cry like this. Why the hell was he bringing him back to his place instead of leaving him to rot in the gutter? Well, because reasons, that’s why!
Gene didn’t pull away when Kodi held his hand, and instead interlocked their fingers. The physical contact, while from anyone else would have brought anxiety and hostility, instead was comforting to the 17-year-old. Enough that he could finally manage to say something more than just a few blubbering grunts. “I…..I…..I hurt my hand….” he sobbed, still cradling the injured one against his chest. Gene sniffled. “H-hold me…” he demanded weakly, like the spoiled brat he was. Well…Gene didn’t know how else he was supposed to be in this sort of situation.
