Chase was waiting.
He’d been told that something very, very rare was happening at the institute. A nine year old meta-human was here. A little weather manipulator. It wasn’t hard to tell they had a young weather manipulator. All you had to do was watch the sky. The weather had been weird lately. Chase had guessed an untrained meta-human was behind it. He just hadn’t realized it was such a young one.
Nine years old. He scratched his head. He’d never trained a student so young. He wasn’t even sure where to start. As far as he knew, the kid had virtually no control over his ability. That wasn’t the tough part. Hell, he’d seen teenagers that were hopeless. In fact, he was still trying to fix some of the things a young pyrokinetic had burned. He shook his head. Some kids never learned. He just hoped this one wouldn’t be as hopeless.
He’d agreed to one on one sessions, to help the boy gain some kind of control over himself. But he still didn’t know where to start. Younger kids tended to freak him out, just a bit. Teenagers, he was good with. Really good. But younger than ten, he wasn’t so sure of himself. But he was going to try. He was the best one for the job, because if he needed to, he could put the boy’s mind into lockdown. Because, really, if he got frustrated and kicked up a tornado, he was pretty sure the administration wanted the institution to stay standing.
He pulled himself up onto his desk, a textbook on his lap. He was brushing up on what was known about weather control. All the abilities affected people differently, but it would help to have a guide, a hint, at what he was dealing with. He wasn’t sure when the kid was coming, but he was hoping it was soon. Waiting made him antsy.
