Anya continued to write quick notes on Reneta's progress as she attempted again, trying not to smile too much at first. As the teen blurred, then reappeared, she tilted her head and put down a simple Willing to persist with ideas next to her name, then nodded. That time was far more successful than the first, and the woman couldn't help but let out a pleased sigh, hand resting on her hip as she finished her notes with a comment on Reneta's abilities.
"Excellent, Reneta!" Anya said brightly, smiling. "How are your side effects this time, any marked improvement?" Anya remembered training classes like this when she had been much younger, and how she found slowly draining a power from someone else far less fatiguing than removing it all in one go. Her trainer had been calm and friendly as she'd struggled with extreme fatigue, and to try and pass the knowledge on made her feel bright and excited. With the pen still in her hand, she fetched two bottles of water from her desk and handed them out.
What happened with Ann next, however, made the trainer's day even more.
At first, Anya had expected very little from the Empath - it was clear her power was a burden that hurt her and upset her, and at the very most she had expected to ease a little of the confusion that surrounded her. But the power of shielding seemed to have worked wonders for Ann, and that pleased her beyond anything. She hastily jotted down more notes, then nodded and watched the girl with eager interest, happy when she, herself, looked happy.
Then, without any warning, Ann had managed to outstretch her powers, and Anya could feel the gentle lull of calmness wash over her skin. It left her smiling even more. "I do." The teacher said softly, nodding her head and writing down the last set of notes. "That's excellent progress Ann, really." Clapping her hands together, the teacher looked at both of her students, then took up her own bottled water, sipping it, unable to get the feeling of triumph out of her system.
"Fantastic, girls, really." She added brightly, wiping the board clean, then grabbing the chalk. "Do you have your planners? I'd like you to continue this for homework." She said simply, writing out the plan for the girls to follow. "Ann, you should continue working on shielding, focusing within yourself to protect your feelings, and continue exploring sending out emotions to others. Reneta, continue practising control over blurring and re-emerging." The woman paused, turning back to the pair of them, before laughing warmly. "I'd like you both to keep a short diary detailing any progress, changes in side effects, anything similar to that."
Anya paused for a moment, then fished out an old, leatherbound journal and passed it to both girls. "This was my journal way back when. Have a quick flick through to get an idea of what it is I want you to do for me." Her voice was bright and happy, confidence radiating from her since her class had been successful.
"And, since you've worked so hard for the first half of the lesson, why don't we unwind with some fun?" Anya's eyes twinkled, and she nodded her head. "I'll shout out a side effect, the person to get the right power for it gets a go, and so on." She said softly, stepping out from her desk to settle on one of the cushions. "Are we ready? How about... Migraines?"
Anya liked to make sure her students were aware of other side effects to other powers, keeping them well educated and more understanding towards those around them. It also proved useful in keeping them safe from rogue meta's, much like the man who attacked James. The best offence is a good defence, after all.
