During the duration of Max’s exam, regardless of how professional and clinical his touch was, Jesse was trembling. He tried to avoid looking into either man’s eyes, for fear of making Max stop, and of making Gabriel angry again. He was going to be walking on eggshells around his mentor for a little while. At least until he was sure that his anger was gone. That meant no freaking out at Max, no messing with Levi, Fifi, or Oliver. No provoking the adults within the compound. Nothing.
Gabe’s hand over his was nice. Only because he didn’t think that Gabe was going to do anything to him here. Not in front of Max. Hell, logically, Gabriel probably wasn’t all that mad at him, even though he’d helped to progress the fight. Jake had started it. And lately, Gabe seemed to have it out for Jake. Jesse wasn’t clear on the details. Hell, he wasn’t even sure Gabriel was. But there was something going on.
The question he was posed with made Jesse stop and think, however. He blinked. No, he’d never seen the other properties. For a moment, he feared saying no. What if Gabe took him to one, and then he unleashed any leftover rage? The blond closed his eyes, answering only when the second part of the question was spoken. “O-okay,” he managed. “Maybe I’ll ask...” What was safe? Definitely not Jake. And he really didn’t want to spend any more time with Max. Then again, maybe it would be a chance to get used to the doctor outside of the clinical setting. Then maybe he wouldn’t be so fucking scared all the time. Oliver was another option... or the twins. He sighed. “Someone,” he finished lamely.
He remained quiet as his status was discussed among the adults. He eyed the bottle of ibuprofen as it changed hands, keeping his mouth shut. At least he wasn’t going to die. At least not this week. If he was going to stay that way, he had to stay on Gabriel’s good side. Slowly, he inched his way down from the table, keeping his expression as blank as he could, and his gaze trained on the floor. “Can I go now? Please?” Shocking as it might have been to hear “please” out of the kid, he was saying it. He wanted to get out of there, and just be alone for a while.
