Dalton: Where do we go from here?

So: Dalton is a man with a lot on his mind. He has reached that turning point where it feels like everything he dedicated his life to until now has been pulled out from under him. Truth is, there are times he keeps going only on sheer momentum. We’ve all been there: we all know how hard it can be to climb out of that pit. We have all looked back, and asked: “What if instead of this, I had done…?”

Dalton is struggling with his past, his present, and his future. We need to give him a little space to discover what his new present has become: lots of interesting people to meet, new job and activities to pick up on: he will be househunting shortly, which can always result in some interesting situations. So for now, I am mostly looking forward to threads which will introduce him to whomever is already here: to all of you. Dalton wants to forget for now about what he has just left: he wants to move on. He wants to get to know you, what you are doing, what matters to you. He wants to know what your dreams are, what holds you back, and what would set you free. Once he knows then he will wait until you are ready, and help you to discover what your heart already knew.

In time he may have some people from his past pop in: force him to confront things he has been hiding from either just recently, or perhaps for years. Anyone who has read his profile can find five possible characters already named (some of greater interest than others), and other aspects of his history which could hint at others yet unknown. Anyone who sees something there which excites their imagination, please feel free to contact me.

Both of my girls would love to meet Mr. Dalton.

Ingrid Barnes is one of his coworkers; she's the biology teacher and currently the oldest person working at the school. She says what she thinks, is more then a little brash, and a nosy busy body who likes debate and being right. But she's also rather kind to those close to her and doesn't seem to always get how off putting her personality is. She generally likes her fellow Hammel staff and it has become rather common for her to invite them to dinner, try to be everyone's substitute mother or simply have them out for a chat and coffee.

Emma Hayes is quiet and respectful student who loves to write and read. Therefore she really loves English as a subject. She'd adore Dalton simply on the basis that he taught the subject. And if he was a nice person, that would only be icing on the cake. Emma has her share of family problems and issues with her new found powers, but usually refuses to talk about it and instead focuses on her strong need to be of use to the people around her.

And also, welcome to Hammel!

I look forward to meeting the both of you. Depending on Ingrid's approach, Dalton might be a little more or a little less accepting of "mothering" right now: he is licking his wounds and sympathy can be appreciated: but too much controlling in the wrong way would reopen not-so-old wounds.

I hope to have a class thread in the near future: Emma, your presence would be greatly appreciated. Allow me to ask which you think would interest Emma or other students more? Shakespeare, literature or poetry?

It shall be interesting to see how many students will be in attendance.

Should Mr. Dalton ever require a friend who will give many hugs and not ask lots of questions, Elaine Tonaya lives in Pilot Ridge and is more than willing to share a cup of coffee and some homemade cookies.

Also, JD needs a good English class, and he may best be served by a poetry class, since he's quite well versed in Shakespeare and most classical literature (meaning he has good access to Sparknotes, which doesn't do poetry).

I have three female characters. Sorry for the lack of testosterone in the post following...

L.C. (Lyra) is my primary character, and her power is iron spike protrusion. If Jessica up there is his teacher's pet, L.C. would probably be the bane of his existance. She creates quite extensive property damage when she wants to. She does harbour a secret love for reading, however, so I can imagine him putting her in detention, forcing her to read Shakespeare, leaving, and being quite surprised to find when he comes back that she's still there and has her nose in it.

Tamsin Craig is the second girl with Aerokinesis, and she would probably be a student that would work one on one with Mr. Dalton because her grammar is absolutely atrocious, to say the least. If you don't believe me, check out the thread in Australia. My advice, though: don't keep a red pen nearby. Computer monitors can't withstand that sort of damage.

My third is Emiko Nakajima, and she's a security official for Hammel that recently came over from Japan. If he's househunting, maybe she could point out a few good apartments for him, she recently just moved in as well. Don't get too close to her though, her power is Boggarting, which means she telepathically senses your fears and shapeshifts to make them a reality. She wouldn't do it if they got along, at least, not on purpose.

I am deeply honored by the many requests and suggestions which have been sent my way. Having joined but recently, I hope to peruse characters in the detail they deserve before contacting each of you.

There is not a single suggestion posted on this thread for which I cannot already see potential. My only concern would be committing myself to so many threads at once that I become overwhelmed, and fail to do justice to each. Therefore, let me commit at this time to be as prompt as possible in replying to my opening post, to let all of you get a good sense of Dalton, and in approximately a week (when I have read all bios and considered possibilities), I shall contact those for whom I believe dramatic purposes would best be suited by meeting Dalton during his very first days at Hammel.

Let me emphasize that this will reflect no bias on my interest in any of the characters suggested: if you are not one of those with whom I immediately suggest a thread, I shall contact you shortly as well for possibilities later. Until then, please presume I have considered that our thread will not suffer or might even do better when Dalton is on more familiar territory at the school.

Finally, let me say how privileged and honored I have felt by the warm and gracious reception I have received so far at Hammel. Thank you all!

My turnnn! I have several characters that would be in Mr. Dalton's line of sight (teehee.)

I have two students, I'll start with them:

Ann: Socially awkward to the eight degree, she's just now popping out of a self-nailed coffin after already attending Hammel for four years. American High school requires an English class each year, so they'd at least know each other a bit by now. She's not one to speak out in class, but at least she always has her work in on time. Now, I can imagine that the two of them would get along pretty well, giving how he sorta wants to turn his back on what happened in the past (or at least change it), and Ann does too. She's always smacking herself in the forehead for it, and she's very adamant on a better future.

Eric: He's only been here a few months, and he's still kinda walking around with cinched up shoulders, BUT, he's a goofy kid at heart and is almost the class clown. He's not too great with poetry. Like at all. Since his school didn't require the junior high kids to be creative, just silent.

Now for the adults!

Martin: He's a bit intimidating to look at, but honestly he is smiling more than anything. He's been a security guard for a little while, and while he denies having PTSD, he has the occasional day where he flinches at everything. If the two were ever in the room at the same time, Martin would probably try to cheer him up, or at least chat him up, because Martin is pretty social, given the right circumstance.

Darryl: Attention whore; Drama Teacher; Spot-light grabber.....Daddy. Darryl's a 'well rounded' individual. He's made some mistakes. Lots of them. Just ask around. (I warn you, though.) But in all honestly, outside of being a bit horny around females (and dare I say males), Darryl is a good guy, and poses as a good distraction on a crappy day. Oh and he can impersonate anyone as long as he's heard their voice. It's good fun at parties.

I have more, but I don't wanna overwhelm you. ^_^

For when you have a spare moment (and a classroom!) I might have to inflict my students upon you.

Namely, Sammy and Alex.

Sammy is an irresponsible brat. He smokes pot, frequently in his dorm, and certainly isn't the brightest tool in the shed. His idea of fun in class is to shout obscene answers, mock funny accents, and generally cause chaos. He's not all that interested in learning, which makes class time a great source of boredom. But at least he's entertaining.

Alex, on the other hand, is a good student. The only reason he's still here at age nineteen is a) he actually likes to learn, and b) he's still trying to get complete control over his ability. He has a fondness for science classes, but he doesn't mind English. He'd be a good student, I promise. ... At least he knows when to keep his mouth shut.

And that's it for students. Adults...

Chase is a powers trainer at Hammel, and is married to the head of recruiting, James Campbell. He recently (and somewhat reluctantly, initially) became a foster father to Nikolai Curtis, and he's got plans with James to adopt him. He's a friendly guy, if you can get over the fact that he can control your mind, if he wants to. But he'd never do it to a coworker. ^_^

... Those are really the only ones I could really see happening. Rose might be seen around the school, if she's looking for her boyfriend, the school accountant. Midori doesn't have much to do with the teaching staff. ... Most of the time.

And Jesse... well... the less said about him, the better.

Welcome to Hammel! \(^-^)/. Not to intimidate you with another reply in your ad or anything, but I'd just like to introduce Mr. Dalton to some of his 'possible' students.^^.

Zachie is one of Hammel's biggest jerks. He's a spoiled brat through and through. And while he does pretty good in his studies, he does hate English more than anything else. He'd rather solve quadratic formulas and write lab reports on spectrophotometry than read poems made by old dead guys. So he'd probably act up more or less should he be in an English class.^^.

Jared, on the other hand, is more of a sweet kid. He's still new and while he isn't that good with English too, he does want to try. Only he has problem being focused in class. He wants to be good and all, but somehow he can be distracted easily. Not as disruptive as Zac, but can be equally annoying.^^.

So cyeah, those are my boys.^^. Hope you have fun in Hammel. ;3

Whenever you have the time, Shade should probably be encouraged to find a tutor by one of her new professors. She reads at roughly the level of a third grader. I don't think she'll like Dalton, but I think she'll need to deal with him telling her what to do. She might come to respect him, though that would take work. School isn't her thing. XD
