When Talen passed his arm around him, Rhett's world seemed to crash for a moment. In any other situation, Rhett would have shaken his body to signal a 'take it off' and then he would have taken a step back just before cleverly saying 'just what do you think you're doing' in some way. However this time was different, he just found himself in a position where he did not know what to do. He could feel inside him a big source of heat and a big pressure just between his chest and his stomach along with pain in the end of his throw. It reminded him of being sick, but he was just smart enough to tell it was different. It scared him a bit. Or too much, really.

"No." Rhett said as he took a step back after Talen offered his hand after removing his arms from Rhett's shoulder. "This is... This had been enough." He shaked his head a bit. "I don't want any friends. I don't need them and I don't like them." I don't like anything, I don't like... anybody. I don't. I don't! I don't... Rhett looked down and then showed the drawing, still in his hand, to Talen. "Thanks for this." He turned around, ready to leave.

Well, all his hard work went for nothing. If the kid didn’t want a friend, then he didn’t want a friend. Tal wouldn’t press him, when he looked so scared at the prospect of actually having someone constant in his life. Talen shrugged and slung the towel on his shoulder, turning around as well.

“Suit yourself,” he told the other boy, starting to walk away. He turned his body in the direction of his dorm, firmly pushing away the image of Rhett’s face right before he turned around from Tal. Hey, you win some, you lose some. It was just fine with him.
