The snow was falling in piles now and Riley couldn't help himself as he stepped out of his apartment with his camera around his neck, bundled up in his warmest jacket, jeans and doc martens. He had been feeling a little antsy lately and his knees were screaming for him to move.
He didn't dare breathe in too deeply and that thought amused him as he took a walk over to the lake.
So many people were out skating and he found it charming that none of them were alone. Everyone had somebody to hold on to them and on many occasions, he saw couples kissing. It was a perfect opportunity for him to start snapping pictures.
Everything seemed so perfect for him these days. Danny was halfway through moving in with him, his friends were all happy in their relationship, their jobs and just generally their lives and it was so close to Christmas. He was ridiculously happy and had already planned out what to get for his loved ones.
He heard a small mewing behind him and he turned to find a dark grey kitten cowering behind a trashcan. An "Oh" softly fell off his lips as he bent down a little to pick the kitten up. It shivered a little and he held it close to him. Where was its mother? He looked around to find any other cats around but he saw none so he just kept the kitten close to him.
It was then that he noticed a small gash near its neck. Finding a bench, Riley sat and looked around to make sure nobody was looking before he slid a thumb over it, making the gash disappear. He hadn't used his powers in awhile and he was glad he still had a handle on it. He just hoped nobody saw him.
He continued to cuddle the kitten close to him, quietly talking to it and looking around to see if its mother would make an appearance.
