Sean Neville wore many hats. His job title was ubiquitous, and he had a thousand associated jobs, none of which quite fit under “Staff Psychiatrist” but were tangentially related, or customary, or there because he was the only person interested or remotely qualified for the task, or the other faculty didn’t feel like doing it themselves.
A combination of all of those had resulted in his annual seminar, which had been ruined by Mia, Zac, and their friends, which had resulted in Claude’s replacement arriving early, which was responsible for lingering discontentment among the students and the faculty alike and a flurry of incidents and disciplinary sessions. Mia and Zac had no access to their powers, and Mia had no access to technology, which was surely torturous.
Her family apparently understood that, because they had sent her a present.
If not for the fact that his personal life was in better condition than it had been in years, Sean would likely be as miserable as everyone else at Hammel, adjusting to the shifting dynamics, the new Headmistress and having to stop fights initiated by students horrified over the violation of their privacy, against their exploiters.
Instead, he managed to maintain relatively good spirits. That was, perhaps, why the task of delivering this package to Mia had fallen to his lap. It certainly wasn’t customary, as he had no role in mail delivery. It wasn’t a “Staff Psychiatrist” duty, although he had prolonged contact with Mia due to their sessions. It was tangentially related for that reason. He certainly wasn’t interested in the delivery and nearly everyone, perhaps with the exception of Dylan, was qualified to deliver a package. Most likely this was simply because nobody else wanted to task and they could point to his interactions with her and his status as de facto disciplinarian as reasons enough.
Whatever the explanation, the package was in his office, and he eyed it cautiously while waiting for Mia to come down and retrieve it.
