TK was dreading this chat with Dr. Neville. The guy wasn't bad, but he knew that actually talking to him about his problems would mean that they were just that: problems. He'd been doing a good job of ignoring them, casting them to the side at a moments notice, and focusing on the now. The only future he was concerned about was that party -- which still needed to be planned and executed, by the way. A trip to the mall was definitely in store for the weekend. But now? He shook his head. This was not what he felt like doing with his day.
The option to leave was always there, the option to back out and run away. Who's to say that he didn't get caught up somewhere? Maybe his parents called and wanted him to visit today? The lies ran through his head so fast, he was beginning to mesh a few together. There was a particularly funny mashed-up lie that made him laugh a little. 'I couldn't make the meeting because I was in the ER for breaking my pinky while eating cake. I got so sick I threw up!' TK was sure it sounded like a hot mess, and he made sure to tuck it away in the back of his mind for another day. Maybe he's not in, he thought. That would be a good thing, for sure. Maybe, just maybe, he could tiptoe away before anyone noticed he'd come. The thought definitely crossed his mind, and it would give him more opportunities to flesh out a lie. But for some reason, he couldn't leave the door.
As much as he wanted to flee and return to the life he'd grown so accustomed to, the life which meant he would drop out next year and simply become a translator… he couldn't. The thought of dropping out next year, the end of his third junior year at Hammel, had never bothered him before. In fact, he had been looking forward to it previously. He always felt like what was being taught was unimportant seeing as he knew his future profession. As long as he had his abilities, he was good to go and could make money for years and years to come. The omnilingual, able to translate into and from any language…
But that fucking dream… It had scared him that much. That dream was the only reason he stood in front of Dr. Neville's door. He refused to end up like his dream counterpart. If that was indeed a glimpse in to his future, then he was going to have to change it, gain some kind of instruction on how he could prevent that kind of thing from happening.
Kowagaru... he couldn't help but think, the Japanese term popping in to his head, even though it was supposed to be English. TK took another breath, raised his right hand, and knocked on the door.
