Chase hated keeping things from James. And this was a big thing.
He should have known better in that meeting yesterday. He knew how to shield, dammit. But his concern for his husband had been greater than his need for self preservation. As such, Sean knew. He knew about all the rage, his drive for revenge. Gabriel Underwood was going to pay. One way or another. Chase was going to make sure of that.
Last night, he knew James hadn’t slept well. Neither had he. He’d had too much running through his mind. Concern for Niko’s safety. Fury over what had happened to James. Worrying about James. Trying to configure plans to keep the students safe. Devising ways to take Gabriel down. He had options. Weaponry, if he could get ahold of something. His own mind. He was no puppeteer, but he was older than Gabriel. He had a few years experience on him. He could implant some seed of destruction, try to get him under control.
Before he was the one in control.
Chase was certain that Gabriel was capable of a great deal more than simply mind raping (for lack of a more polite term) and breaking picture frames. He was going to make certain that he was never, ever going to touch James. Not ever again. He wasn’t going to lay a finger on his family. That meant Niko too. If it came to it, Chase was ready to lay his life on the line to protect those that mattered most to him.
Which was probably why Sean wanted to talk to him. He knew it didn’t have anything to do with protocols or locking down potential victim’s minds. He knew Sean too well for that. No. It was because his friend had heard every wicked, vengeful thought that had gone through the blond’s mind during the meeting with Claude. Chase wasn’t proud of them. Not by a long shot. But when it came to protecting his family, he was willing to go that far.
It really was a good thing James wasn’t telepathic. But Sean was, and there was no way of hiding this from him. He knew that. He’d known that yesterday, even before Sean had mentioned them having to talk. He’d only been reminded of that this morning, when he’d run into Sean in the staff lounge. They still needed to talk. Which was why he was heading to Sean’s office now. He didn’t want to. Much like one of the students being sent for discipline, he had that same feeling.
Not that it was stopping him from continuing to think murderous thoughts about one Gabriel Underwood.
He knocked on the door before pushing it open. Though he knew any kind of control he managed to gain would be short lived. Still, moments after he flopped onto the oh so familiar couch in his friend’s office, he glanced up. “So. Are you going to tell me how I can help James?” Distractions. They wouldn’t work for long.
