Name: Ava Kacey Brown
Nicknames: - -
Age: Sixteen
Orientation: Heterosexual
Desired Rank/Job: Student
Powers: Illusions through bending light
Ava can create fully 3D images by bending light which are highly detailed. The images usually cannot reach beyond a 4 or 5 metre radius, and if they can it is not without full concentration and a lot of work. As her illusions are just made up of light, they cannot be touched or move anything, the more detailed the illusion the harder it is to recreate, and thus the finer details tend to be blurred or somewhat out of proportion. Darkness also makes it harder to create illusions, and should a total darkness be created (such as the turning off of a light at night time) her illusions will falter completely and she will have to make them back up from scratch.
Size isn't so much a struggle for her as details are, the more detailed something is, the harder it is for her to hold up. by this logic a metre long cube which is of one solid colour, without detail, would be easier to keep up than one half it's size, but is highly detailed and covered with pictures. This means she can cause vertigo in people if she so chooses by creating a large image which would assault someone's vision, but something of such scale would be unlikely to look like much of anything.
Theoretically she could, by bending light, render someone or something invisible, however for Ava this is next to impossible, she would need to know exactly what was beneath her query and change it according to how it moves. She could change somethings colour or it's apparent texture, something like a chameleon, but actually making something invisible is not possible, and trying would just render her ill. Her illusions are also strictly visual.

General Appearance:
Ava is a short pretty short 5'4 typical Caucasian girl with brown eyes, brown hair and pale skin. She always was taken by dark high contrasting shades when it came to clothing, or at least something neutral, and has been wearing such things for so long that the odd day she might feel like wearing something bright it just seems fit for anyone else but her, and she'll usually think better of it. With a firmly held belief that uncomfortable clothes are made for wannabes and superstars she refuses to wear heels, or indeed anything all that's overly tight or baggy for the sake of fashion, opting for long jumpers, an array of hoodies, jeans and a handful of skirts for those summer months matched with her favourite runners.
Though she's a girl who likes her comforts she likes to wear a light layer of make-up, usually in keeping with a natural look, though is usually too lazy to bother with foundation, a touch of eyeliner, shadow, and lipgloss is done-up in her world. On occasion she'll wear more, usually opting for something very dark around her eyes and a pale lipstick, but she'd need a very good reason to do this, and it's usually due to her mothers influence. Most days she'll keep her brunette hair tied back, in a pony tail or pig tails, but has been known to let it loose. So far she currently has no piercings or tattoos to speak of, her mother is very against letting her teenage daughter do something that could be permanent, though she often toys with the idea of getting some
Personality: Despite the first impression she might give Ava likes a good party and a group of friends as much as the next guy, unless the next guy is a nervous wreck, then not so much like him. She just happens to know how to keep herself amused and handle long periods by herself, but knowing how to make the most of something doesn't automatically equal liking it. Once she warms up, which doesn't take all that long, Ava is actually a very sociable young woman, liking nothing more then to party and talk about rubbish all day long. Unless she has a few drinks on her she can be a little quiet with people she doesn't know, but it doesn't take her long to warm up to someone. If someone is nasty to her, or does something to make her angry she can be petty, or even downright spiteful.
With a cute guy she can sometimes find it a little tough to talk to him, not that she's afraid of rejection, or half the time even wants something to happen, but just suffers from plain and simple inexperience. Often she'll blush, find herself talking too much, or too little or making it too obvious, in the heat of the moment she'll manage but afterwards she'll find herself regretting that she said X or did Y.
Ever since she was a kid Ava wanted to have superpowers, I mean what teenager doesn't? Even most adults do. It gives her an open mind, as she likes to let herself believe in anything and everything, ghosts, werewolves vampires, are all perfectly possible in her mind. There's little she loves more than reading a good fantasy novel, as a kid she would stack up all her toys and kick them down pretending she was a telekinetic, or a vampire, or any other thing her little mind could come up with. The fact that some actually exist only makes her all the more interested. In her view of the whole thing, as generations of people have gone by each has had their own issues to work through, for some it was black rights, for others it was the right to listen to rock and roll, Ava considers her generation the one that will breach the differences between those with supernatural abilities.
Academically she tends not to fair so well, lacking interest, and having a small part of her that wants to spite her teachers. She scrapes a pass, and most of the time and doesn't want to bother doing much better than that. She has no real academic hopes, she's not even sure she'll go to college. Someday she dreams to open a shop selling flowers or crafts she makes by hand, art classes being the only things she really likes, though her hobbies change with her mood they're almost always creative in some way, considering herself something of an amateur artist.
Though she's a little afraid of people laughing at her Ava really does love to dance, the problem however is that she's has zero skill, same when she tries to sing, and sadly when she's partying she's been known to do both. When it comes to confrontation however Ava isn't the quickest to ask for help, she believe's in at least taking a crack at something herself, though not a violent person by any means she will try to talk the other person down and show no fear, but she finds it hard to handle the adrenaline crash when the danger has passed, just as when something particularly bad happens no matter how badass she tries to be she finds it very hard not to burst into tears, and humiliating when she does.

History
Ava's parents were a passionate couple, whose love for each other burned so bright so early on there was no way it could last. They married a year into their relationship, some would call it romantic, while others call it stupidity, and a few months later Ava was well on her way into the world. The pregnancy was the highlight of their relationship, it wasn't an mistake, they both wanted it, and there was no question as to whether or not they loved Ava, but when the rush stopped and life really started to settle in around them they couldn't quite make it work. Her mother, Marissa, would claim her father, Niall, was too irresponsible and reckless. In return Niall would claim Marissa was distant and never there when things got real. Maybe both those things were true, or maybe they simply were sick of each other. Either way, by the time Ava was one they couldn't wait to leave each other. It was ugly at the time, and above all else they fought over the young girl like two dogs over a bone, but she has no recollection of any of that.
In the end she lived alone with her mother in a two bedroom flat, seldom seeing her father other than on a birthday or for an early Christmas present during her early years, but dad always did buy the best toys. Marissa kept them afloat working as a secretary for a local doctor on a small wage, but they managed, aside from the odd month they'd have to cut back on luxuries. Ava's mother always had trouble with being on her own and having no one to watch Ava, but there was a very kind old woman, Mrs Barton, with an affinity for blue birds who lived across from them as she'd lost her house some odd years before Ava was even born. On days Marissa was late home from work and couldn't be there when Ava got off the school bus Mrs Barton was always there with an open door and an old box if odd tasting sweets until her mother could pick her up. Ava was a boisterous child a best, with an endless imagination. She would always make Mrs Barton tell her stories about vampires, or ghosts, and for a long time believed Mrs Barton really was a witch, part of her still suspects. Though of course such things don't exist. Mrs Barton was a Meta, Though of course such things don't exist. Mrs Barton was a Meta, but she was never very clear with Ava about that, suffering through her own insecurities on that issue.
Weekends for Ava were a magical time to be spent with daddy as a child, though as the years went by it would become whole weeks or sometimes only one day in a month. Her mother didn't like her spending time with her father, not trusting him to be responsible enough, but legally she couldn't deny him the right, and as time went on she grew more accustomed, and even thankful for the free time.
School was not Ava's favourite place to be. National school was rough, she was picked on a lot, but when she reached highschool the troubles seemed only to escalate, a girl named Donna, blonde, a little chubby, and a complete nightmare made it her solemn duty to make Ava's life as miserable as she possibly could. Donna lived in the building across from Ava and had the sort of family typical of your schools resident sadist. Ava became accustomed to being by herself in her first year, as Donna made it ever difficult for her to make friends by spreading rumours and publicly humiliating her. Ava hadn't the best relationships with the teachers, largely she was in trouble for not working hard enough, giving her little trust that any of them would help her out even if she did ask for help about her bully. There was also the embarrassment factor involved however in not being able to take care of herself.
Eventually Ava had had enough and started talking back to Donna, shouting matches would ensue and somehow Ava always seemed to be the only one caught bullying. By then most of the school staff was convinced she was the instigator and after a close call of nearly going toe to toe Ava almost completely stopped going, she spent a large amount her time roaming the woods, putting together some elaborate designs, and some real flops. This drove her mother insane, and there were whole weeks were poor Marissa would show up late to work for having to bring her daughter to school every morning just to know that she attends.
It was during one of these days that her mother couldn't afford to bring her where she was skipping school and alone at the age of fifteen that her abilities kicked in. She was laying around the flat when she saw a glowing red butterfly sitting on the windowsill. Leaving the house she followed it across the road and into the park, where she could see dozens of others, and of course took this opportunity to draw them. After what had seemed only a few hours she realized she was hungry, and the creatures seemed to just vanish, and the sky darkened. Looking at her phone the time read 1am, hurrying home her mother was worried sick and close to calling the police to find her.
This however wasn't the last time that it happened, and Marissa started to really worry, and was talking about sending Ava to a specialist of some kind. It was Mrs Barton who followed Ava one day, seeing her heading off and found her hiding out in the little corner of the park she had been known to run quite often as a child and was surprised, as she too, could see these vibrant images Ava was always talking about. After some time Ava's mother too became aware that this was not some mental illness but something quite different, akin to those stories that they had always heard on the radio, or those rumours of people preforming feats beyond logical comprehension. It wasn't long after before Ava was on her way to the Hammel institute, Mrs Barton having taken the liberty of writing to the institute on her behalf. A week later one of the recruiters were at the door. Her mother, Marissa, even went through the trouble of finding a new job in Vermont in order to be closer to her daughter and so she can keep an eye on her academic success (Or indeed failures)
Roleplay Example
Days dragged on and melded together so that Thursday was almost identical to Monday and Monday was indistinguishable to Wednesday. Time slipped past too fast, winter exams loomed. Hours spent studying would drag its heels so that a minute seemed like a year and what little down time could be snatched went by in a flash. The cold weather had sunk it's teeth into the hearth of the land so only the minimum amount of time was spent outside without risking an illness that one couldn't afford to take time out for if they had any intention of passing their exams. But thus was the nature of student life with exams come Christmas. There had been a time when Christmas couldn't come quickly enough, now Collin would do anything for more time before the dreaded exams started and he'd have to spend give or take up to ten hours cooped up, being expected to pay attention while some old teacher droned on about the same thing over and over again.
Werewolf aside Collin was a creature of the outdoors and sports, he had been since the day he was born. When expected to sit still for long periods of time frustration was quick to set in, muscles bunched up in his legs, suppressed energy caused him to jump at every sudden movement or excuse. In some vain attempt to find some comfort he ended up twitching or fidgeting through the whole day. Even football training wasn't enough tide him over through all these extra study sessions.
Today had been particularly tough, Collin had spent the whole day like a rabid animal in a cage trying to get out. Were a few hours too much to ask? All he wanted was to be able to turn into a big fluffy wolf and run around in the snow chasing his tail. But no, between homework, school, study and the occasional extra credit project he was lucky to be able to make football practise, let alone indulge in his less human nature. By the time the bell signalled the end of class Collin had almost jumped out the window in joy that the hell was over. Of course the teacher felt like being an ass and told them they couldn't leave until they had permission. But it was all over now, the bell had gone, the teacher had shut up, the weekend was almost here and Collin had decided he needed a break before he lost it and went on a wolfy rampage through the school.
The coach who ran his after school training had called in sick just before school had ended. So rather than using it as an excuse to catch up on his study, Collin decided to take a hike and just get away from the town for the time being. Normally he would have shifted into wolf form but it was too cold and still had to lug both his gym bag (which he had brought thinking there would be training today) and school bag around since he had decided against dropping them off at home. The last thing he needed was his mother lecturing him on getting his work done before he could slip out of the house, so he'd decided against going home at all for the moment. For a change of scene he went along the riverside wondering aimlessly, leaving muddy footprints all along the bank. Right then he'd have gone anywhere as long as it wasn't indoors. The cold air helped to clear his head and the sound of nature was a lot better that of screaming teenagers locked into a room for hours on end.
