The morning was bright and sunny, perfect weather for an adventure. Ravyn stretched, reaching her arms above her head and unfurling her wings to their greatest length, smiling contentedly. Cameron, her boyfriend of just over two months, was meeting her at the base of this rather large rock to try something she had never done before - cliff diving. Since flying was so natural to her, the thought of diving off the top of a cliff into the water without the aid of her wings sounded dangerously thrilling. The water, she had already found out, was deep and cool, and as far as she knew, no one had died from diving at this current location at the lake. She gazed up at the long, wooden board stretched out over the water high above her, feeling a mixture of excitement and nerves.

She had flown here from the Institute, so she was warm and had already pulled off her jacket to reveal her normal open-backed tanktop, along with khaki shorts and flip-flops. Underneath she had on a swimming suit, but she wouldn't strip to that until she was ready to dive. Her hair was pulled back into its normal, practical braid.

She crossed her arms and dipped a foot in the water, eager to get started. Cameron would be there any minute, and then they could get started. A few other people were milling around, but no one else had yet to climb the rock and try out cliff diving. She smiled to herself; this was going to be fun.

Cliff diving was his specialty. Well, that wasn’t really true, but it’s what he told his girlfriend Ravyn when she asked him. He wasn’t totally clueless on the subject either though. He’d done it once before and loved it. He wouldn’t call that being an expert exactly, but a little white lie never hurt anyone. Besides, she had wings! If something went wrong, she could save them. But Cam wasn’t really worried about that, he was ready for this adventure.

Cam was wearing light, long sleeved and legged clothing, to make sure nothing got ensnared. The best would be to wear a tight fitting bodysuit, but there was no need to get Ravyn all excited. He stepped out of his beater of a truck, wishing he too had wings just so he could meet her a little faster. He wasn’t wearing anything underneath his clothes other than some boxers, and his birthday suit.

“Hey hey gorgeous,” he said, spotting her immediately amongst the crowd. Cam gave her a good long kiss, before looking down at her with a smile. “You look great, as usual,” he pressed his lips out at her in a teasing, kissy motion, “taste great too. What chapstick are you wearing?” He smirked and let her go, squinting in the sunlight to get a better view of the lake and the rock they were jumping from. He pushed the sun’s light away from his eyes so he could get an even better view. He gave a low whistle, a wicked smile on his face, looking back to her.

“Do we have to climb this thing first, or are we flying to the top?”

Ravyn turned as she heard a truck pull up, recognizing the loud rumble. She grinned. Now the fun would begin. She let Cameron approach her, replying with a "Hey there, handsome," before returning the kiss with a smile. "You look great too, of course. Love the hair today," she said, ruffling it just a little bit. Not too much; she didn't want to mess up its perfection. She bit her lip, pretending to taste the chapstick herself. "Watermelon flavor. Nice, yeah?" she laughed. He was always noticing the little things.

She leaned into him as he pushed the sun out of his eyes, taking advantage of being able to see more clearly as she followed his gaze up to the top of the rock. It was quite tall, yes; fortunately for her, though, heights were not something she was normally afraid of. This might be a bit different. However, if worst came to worst, she was pretty sure she would have time to save herself if need be. But she saw no reason why that might happen.

"Sadly, hun, I'm still not strong enough to carry both of us," she sighed. She had tried carrying other people before, but she found her limit was about thirty pounds. She thought someday maybe she would be strong enough to carry another person, but she was so small and light, it would have to be a very small person. Maybe if her wings grew more.... But anyway. "I think we're gonna have to walk. I saw some rough steps carved into the side, though, so I don't think it will be much of a problem." She could just fly up herself if she wanted to, but where was the fun in that? She came here to be with Cam, so she would walk up there with him. Lacing her fingers into his, she tugged his arm lightly. "Ready to try?" Apparently he had done this before, so she didn't expect any hesitation from him whatsoever.

Cam wasn’t about fancy things, and well, when his dad came to visit last summer and left his beater of a truck as a present for getting his license, well, Cam wasn’t about to complain. Not everyone had their own set of wheels. He smiled at her, touched his hair for the umpteenth time today. She messed it up, even though it was already messy to begin with. But the hairs had to be in the right place to look out of place. “Your lips are fantastic,” he said with a little sigh. Really, they were. He just had to kiss them again, so he did. He didn’t mind if people were staring now.

He pouted at her. “Was that a fat joke?” He quickly smirked and put his arm around her shoulders, giving them a little squeeze. Ravyn should be used to his brand of humor by now. “We’ll just have to find someone who can turn me pint sized and we’ll be in business,” he smiled at her, “I’ve always wanted to be put into a backpack.” Cameron looked up at the mountain again, ready to take it on. It’d be even more fun with his girlfriend by his house.

His face fell a little. He was sort of looking forward to the challenge of getting to the top. “Aw, that’s too bad,” he readjusted his backpack and put on his pair of shades, going for Ravyn’s hand. He could hold it for as long as the terrain would allow. It was a good thing she had the same idea. “Are you?” He asked, happy to be the first person to get to the top. Actually, he was sort of determined to be.

Making eye contact with another young guy that was here, Cameron tugged on Ravyn’s hand a little more. “Oh it’s on,” he muttered, before grinning at her. “You wanna race?” He glanced at the trail. It wasn’t that well travelled, but it wasn’t super rocky either. Ah well, it wasn’t about hiking today. That could be done another day. He was eager to get to the top – first.

Ravyn had to laugh as he 'fixed' his hair; she couldn't really tell it one way from another, but according to him, it had to be juuust right. She laughed again at his statement, though it was more airy this time as she kissed him back. Again. "Cam, you gotta stop, people are staring," she giggled. Not that she really minded it. "Save it for the jump."

As they started walking towards the bottom of the cliff, she lifted her gaze to meet his eyes. "You? Fat joke? Pleeease," she said, pinching his waist. He was a lean and fit as they came. "But it would be fun to carry you around. A little hard to make-out with, though." She nudged him, grinning. "I'm more than ready," she replied, turning back to look at the cliff. From down here it didn't look too terribly high, but she was sure it would look much different from up there. And knowing Cam, he wouldn't show an ounce of fear once they were up there, even if he was scared at all.

She saw his eyes light up as he made contact with another guy there, and she knew what was coming. "Are you kidding? Racing is my middle name," she grinned. Without warning, she pulled her grip out of his hand and shot off like a rocket, bouncing up the rough steps lightly and disappearing around the first corner. "Better hurry up if you want to win!" she called back. She wasn't going to get too competitive, but it would be fun to see who got there first. He had an advantage - his legs were much longer than hers - but if worst came to worst, she could always cheat and just fly to the top!

“I don’t care what people...” Cam paused, his face mere inches away from hers. “Wait, you’re gonna make out with me when we jump?” He smiled devilishly. He knew that he was irresistible to her. “How are we gonna see the view?” He asked, obvious concern on his face. This was his second time (not that she knew), and her first, didn’t she want to see what was going on other than his glorious mug?

Cameron felt a bit self conscious as she pinched his waist. Okay, so maybe he wasn’t fat, but he wasn’t exactly built either. One day, one day when he could lose his baby fat, he’d look even better than he already did. He laughed outright. “Would you stop dating me if I was too small to make out with?” He asked, only too happy to be discussing making out at great lengths. He wasn’t afraid of anything. This jump was going to be icing on the cake after their race.

His eyes grew wide as Ravyn shot forward. He hadn’t meant them against each other, but rather against everyone else. Ah well, off she went, giving him a good view of her derriere. “Hang on R.R.R.!” Cam shouted, picking up the pace, and using his fists to push him through the air, he caught up just after she turned back to shout at him. “Be careful what you wish for,” he said, slapping her bottom before passing her. This would be a hands down victory. And, they would get there before anyone else. It didn’t matter if no one else was trying to get to the top first.

"Not while we're jumping, silly," she laughed, rolling her eyes. "Just beforehand. I think it would be kinda hard to do it while falling. Although then again, it might be kinda hot too." She scrunched her nose at him, practically reading his mind. "You're too distracting though. I might not land right if we attempted that while falling. And then that would ruin the fun." She rose her eyebrows and pretended to think hard, tapping her foot while considering her answer to his question. "Hmm. That might put a damper on the relationship, yeah. It might make other things complicated as well," she giggled, wiggling her eyebrows suggestively. Not that they had done that yet - she wasn't one to give herself to guys that completely so soon - but, you never knew. It could happen eventually.

But now she was running, and she cursed her short legs as she hopped furiously up the steps, trying to keep ahead of Cameron. It was no use - he sped by her, but not before hitting her butt, and she gasped, surprised. "Cam, you jerk!" she called after him, half-laughing, half-sputtering. "I'll get back at you for that!" She pushed herself to go just a little faster, but it was no use - he was already almost out of sight. Not wanting him to win by such a large margin, she found a wide spot in the trail and unfurled her wings as she ran, catching the wind and lifting almost instantly. It took her a few moments to get control and not crash into the side of the cliff, but soon she began steadily climbing upwards. She didn't fly too fast, since she didn't want to have to wait TOO long for Cameron to get there, but she watched as he began to get near the top and went in for a landing. She hit the ground just as he stepped to the top. "Oh, hey," she said casually, leaning on a rock. "Fancy seeing you up here." She winked playfully. "Ready to jump?" She let her wings stretch out a bit more before pulling them back in; she had to make sure they didn't come open accidentally on the fall, lest she break them when she hit the water.

Cameron snickered. “I’ve made out while falling so many times.” No he hasn’t, silly boy. He laughed. “Yeah, dying would ruin any fun I had in mind with you,” he winked at her, an arm around her waist to pull her into a hug. He just loved being around her. They fed off each other like wildfire. “Okay, we’ll save that for the next jump,” he was happy to be able to enjoy the freefall, “but we could always hold hands?” It was a good compromise.

“Oh I hope so!” He said over his shoulder, laughing and trudging on. She had a nice butt, what could he say? Besides, it distracted her didn’t it? Because obviously that was the only intention he had in mind... Out of the corner of his eye, he saw her ascend. Damn he thought to himself, pushing himself evermore to get to the top. He saw her land and cursed himself as he reached the top, hands on his knees, panting. “Cheater!” He said, rushing her and pulling her close to him so he could spin her around. “Next time I’ll blind you by the light!” All was fair in love and war.

“Ready when you are,” he said, still breathing heavily as he let her go, taking off his backpack. There was some gear in there he wanted to use, and once he was set, he put it back on.

"Suuure you have," Ravyn replied, smirking. "Falling in love maybe, but not off a cliff, I'm sure." He was so ridiculous sometimes. "And I agree, dying would most definitely put an end to our relationship. You don't seem to be into necrophilia," she laughed. "Holding hands sounds good."

It didn't take long for her to get to the top, although she was still slightly fuming over his slap. It was cute, but not something she was used to - one of the many interesting things about Cam. There relationship was very physical, almost too much, but when you were high on adrenaline all the time, it all seemed so natural and fun. She made a silent promise to herself on the flight up, though, not to get ahead of herself and take their relationship too far; she liked Cameron, she really did, but she didn't know if she could see herself spending the rest of her life with him. She shook off the thoughts as she landed, grinning at his outburst. "It's not cheating if we didn't make rules," she retorted as he picked her up. "Hey, put me down!" she laughed, squirming. When he did, she rested her head against his chest for a moment, listening to his heart pound. He felt so strong and sturdy - she felt the nerves she had earlier disappearing, knowing he knew what he was doing. Or so she thought.

"Okay, let's get this started," she agreed, pulling away slowly and smiling lightly. She brushed back a few loose strands of hair and pulled of her shirt and shorts, leaving on the swimsuit underneath. She felt a little self-conscious, knowing he would probably say something about it, but she brushed aside her insecurity and put on her most winning grin. "Ladies first, I suppose." She walked to the edge of the cliff, not sure whether she should look down or not. Curiosity won over, and she glanced down, and whistled. They were pretty high up, although she didn't care - she was used to heights. It was the fall that would be interesting. "Ready?" She reached out for his hand.

Huh, maybe that's why Cam couldn't keep his hands to himself with his significant other. It was all the adrenaline's fault. He'd have to remember that if anyone got mad at him. It didn't matter to him how serious they were. He was all about living in the moment, and going with the flow. He liked Ravyn. It's why he asked her out to begin with. They had a lot of fun together, and there was never a dull moment. Honestly, he hadn't thought about anything long term, since it had never happened before in other relationships. He was good with what they had.

"You didn't tell me what kind of race it was!" He objected, sore he didn't win, but not mad. Hell, even if he didn't know what he was doing, he could always figure it out as they went. No problem right? So what if they were falling through the air and letting gravity do it's thing. Everything would work out, is always did.

Cameron gave a cat call, and fanned himself. "Wowie, didn't think all that was hiding under there!" He decided it would be best not to strip down to nothing. No one needed to know he was going commando. But he did take off his shirt. "Ready," he said, stepping up to the ledge next to her. His backpack was on the summit and he'd come back to it later, a different set of clothes waiting for him. "Make sure you let go of me once we get close though, broken arms suck almost as much as dying."

And with that, he took the plunge, holding her tight, a scream ready to let loose.

"Well, next time we race, I'll make sure to better explain the rules," she assured him, hiding a grin. Although truth be told, she would do anything she could to win, especially since she would almost definitely have to cheat against his long, attractive legs.

But now he was commenting on her swimsuit - well, more like fanning himself over it - and she rolled her eyes. "Oh, shush. It's not that great." It wasn't like she was a model or anything - her ability made it hard for her to put on weight, as she was supposed to be as light as possible to help her fly, but over the past few years she had managed to get some curves, enough apparently to keep her boyfriend's interest. Nevertheless, his attention made her blush. "Look who's talking," she grinned as he pulled off his shirt. Not like she hadn't seen it before, but hey, it wasn't a sight you took for granted. She took advantage of the fact and pulled him into a kiss, leaning against his strong frame as she did so. Her heart pounded with adrenaline, making her want to make the kiss longer and deeper, but they DID need to get to the jump eventually... The high she got off of these adventures was amazing though, almost scary, since it sometimes made her want to do things she wouldn't do usually.

"Got it," she replied to his instructions, pulling her wings more tightly against her back. "Broken wings would suck just as much too." She gripped his hand tight, stepped to the edge, didn't look down.... And dropped.

It really wasn't a lot different than diving - she didn't have a lot of practice in it, but she knew the feeling. However, the water was coming up awfully fast, and it felt so weird to have her wings tucked against her back, that she automatically began to unfurl them against her will. She heard a scream, it might have been her own, and SPLOOSH.

As soon as she hit the water, she knew something was wrong. She had heard a crack when she hit the water, and she felt a dull pain in her right shoulder as she struggled back to the surface. Once she reached the surface and gasped, the pain increased tenfold and she bit back a cry of pain. What had happened? "Cam?" she called weakly. "I.... I think I broke my wing." Bloody brilliant. He was going to think she was an idiot. But she couldn't help it! It had happened without her willing it to. The pain throbbed again, and she bit her lip, whimpering. It was getting hard to stay floating, so she struggled back to the land. What was she going to do now? She didn't want to make a big deal out of it in front of Cameron, but it was getting harder and harder to hold back tears...

“You fight dirty,” he said, nuzzling into her neck, trying to tickle her, “I like that.” Anything that turned into a competition Cam would like, and he wouldn’t forget her nature.

Cameron looked shocked. “Not the swimsuit Ravyn, you in the swimsuit.” He winked at her and chuckled to himself. Women, why was it so hard for them to take a compliment? He liked what he saw, wasn’t he allowed to hit on his own girlfriend? “What, these old things?” He asked, flexing his biceps. They weren’t anything to gawk at, but he had the tiniest bit of definition. If he wasn’t built by the time he was twenty five, he was just going to give up and be fat. He kissed her back with enthusiasm, ready to start this adventure.

The whole point of this was to want to do more things. It was an addiction.

The water was coming up fast, and Cam found himself grinning. Should he do a canon ball? Would that hurt too much? No, it was probably best to dive in. He glanced at Ravyn in mid air, thinking she was beautiful, but her wings... Then she screamed, and as they hit the water, Cam did his best to resurface quickly, and try to find her. It was a good thing they were the first ones at the top, because that meant they were the first to go in, and no one was here to watch or point at them.

They had drifted apart from each other a little bit, but Cam was soon by her side. “Ravyn, what’s wrong?” He asked, completely focused on her. Where had such intense focus some from? But there it was. He looked at her back, the wing twisting at an unnatural angle, and it was really close to her shoulder blade. He put an arm around her waist, helping her swim to shore. “Come on, we’ve got to get you to a hospital.” He said, forgetting all about his gear. It could wait.

Helping her from the water, Cam still held around the waist as they walked towards his truck. He made sure not to touch her wing, but it draped over him slightly, unsure of whether to extend or go back in place. He didn’t know much about wings, but he guessed it hurt too much to keep tucked in. He lifted her into his truck, letting herself get comfy as he hopped into the driver’s side, digging around for his spare key. Once it roared to life, they off at a high speed. “We’ll get there soon, I promise,” he said, his eyes on the road as he broke the speed limit.

Ravyn felt terrible. Here they were, supposed to be having a good time, and she had to go and ruin it by breaking her wing. The pain was bad enough - the embarrassment that came with it was even worse. "Cam, I'm sorry," she managed to get out as they slowly made their way back to the shore. "I couldn't help it, the water was just coming up so fast and... I should have known better. I shouldn't have come." She bit her lip as another wave of pain hit her shoulder, grunting against the threat of tears. She wasn't going to cry. "Shouldn't you go get your stuff?" She didn't want him to drop everything just to get her to a hospital. She wondered if they would even know how to fix it. She knew there were a couple meta-humans that worked there.... Maybe they would be able to help. "Please, Cam, I can wai-" But no, he was insistent upon getting her to his car, and she let her weight lean on him, feeling her wing flop uselessly against their backs. Each step brought a new twinge of pain, but it was starting to go numb, and she gritted her teeth until she got to the truck. She tried to stay as still as possible as Cam lifted her into the truck, but she still cried out as her wing hit the seat. Cam hopped into the truck, and away they went. She tried to get comfortable, but each movement hurt too much until she nearly passed out, and she eventually just sat as still as she could. It seemed to be the only thing she could do.

She was going to protest about Cameron going over the speed limit, but she realized it would be useless - he was in one of his 'moods', and nothing was going to deter him from getting her help as soon as possible. She watched him quietly for a while, her eyes half-open but concentrated on his intense face. She felt such affection for him in that moment, she managed to reach out and gently touch his leg. "I love you, Cam," she murmured. And in the moment, she really felt like she did.

Cam didn’t think Rayvn hurt herself on purpose. That was just stupid, on both parts. Giving his girlfriend an odd look, Cameron wondered what she was sorry about. “It’s alright,” he said, trying to smile even though he was really worried about her, “not a part of the game plan, but not the end of the world either.” Really, he didn’t care. She could’ve been driving his really expensive car and crashed, and so long as she was alright, the crash itself wouldn’t matter. Of course, first he’d need to have an expensive car... “It’s just some extra clothes and other things, snacks. It’s fine.” He said, not making a fuss over it. It just didn’t matter.

On the drive into town, Cameron kept glancing at Ravyn. “Damn it, I wish there was something more I could do,” he said, keeping his eyes on the road. They’d be there soon, and whatever was wrong with the wing, wouldn’t have time to set. They would get there on time to make things right, he just knew it. His focus and determination came to a sudden halt as Ravyn spoke. He smiled a bit, hoping she wasn’t just delirious. “I love you too RayRay,” he said, knowing that it wasn’t just to appease her broken state that he said it. He meant it too, and that was scary and such a rush.

Finally they arrived at the hospital, and Cameron parked the truck right outside of the front doors. “I’ll be back,” he said, rushing out of the cab and into the hospital. He told the nurse at the front desk what had happened, and a couple of nurses came to help Ravyn out. “I would’ve taken you myself, but,” the explanation wasn’t necessary. These people knew what they were doing, he did not. This wasn’t something he wanted to pretend to know something about. He kissed her hand as they took her into the ER, and made himself comfortable in the waiting room. Ravyn would be fine.

Even though Cam assured her that it was alright, she still felt bad, and idiotic. She should have known better than to go diving. At the very least, she should have done something more to make sure her wings didn't cause issues. But should'ves and could'ves would do them no good, so she didn't say anything out loud. "You're doing enough," she told him, shifting a little and wincing. "It was just a dumb mistake. They'll be able to take care of it." She was feeling pretty sleepy for some reason, and kept forcing her eyes to stay open. She knew she wasn't delirious when she confessed her love, though; she could feel it in her heart, even if saying it aloud felt dangerous and exciting. Yes, he could be vain and an idiot sometimes, but his good qualities overrode the bad ones. He really cared about her, she felt. And she about him. She smiled at him as he responded, and she leaned over in her seat and closed her eyes as she waited to get to the hospital. She trusted Cam to get her there safely.

It didn't take too long, and she blinked wearily as he hopped out of the truck to get some nurses. "Mmmmkay." Soon she found herself being loaded onto a gurney and wheeled into the building. She panicked for a moment, not seeing Cameron, but soon she caught sight of him and calmed down. She caressed his face for a brief moment before she was wheeled away, into the room where they would attempt to fix her wing. She didn't allow the thought to cross her mind that they wouldn't be able to fix it...

It took some time, and lots of pain and tears and yelps as they set the bones back in place, but eventually they seemed satisfied with what they had done. Apparently the person working on her had experience with meta-humans, and it wasn't his first time working with a humanoid wing. The area still hurt like hell, but at least it was back where it should be and covered with a sort of cast to hold it in place. She found herself in a room with a couple beeping machines and a window looking out over the beautiful (sarcasm) parking lot, lying on her side to keep her injured wing from being jostled. A nurse came in and checked a few things, and she asked,"Can I see my boyfriend?" She hoped he had stuck around; she had thought about a lot of things while going through the process of getting her wing fixed, not all of it good. She had begun to realize just how dangerous their relationship was, and as much as she absolutely hated to admit it, it was not her fault alone. They both put themselves at risk. And something needed to happen. The nurse nodded and went out into the hall, and she was left alone, waiting in silent anxiety.
