Josef's question made Hart slightly uncomfortable, and he focused his attention firmly on his drink as he answered.
"Yeah. I mean, it happens...sometimes. Or really, I guess, pretty often. I wish I could say something encouraging, but extended jail time is pretty rough on even well-established relationships. Both parties have to be pretty dedicated to weather it."
He wished this topic hadn't come up; he was trying to cheer his roommate up, not cast a pall on the evening with reality.
"I guess it's a little like a forced long distance relationship in that way...."
With the additional stress of one half of the couple dealing with the fact that his or her significant other had engaged in some type of criminal conduct.
