With her sewing machine set up on her desk, Kimmy didn't have much room in her dorm to do her homework. She usually went to the library for that purpose. It was quiet there, and it was nice to be in a place with so many books that she could read in breaks between subjects.
It had been a cold, wet day, and Kimmy was glad to have a reprieve from the misty rain and dark weather outside. Ze scraped zir shoes on the mat as ze entered the library, heading for zir favorite nook in the corner of the Fiction section. The familiar, comforting smell of wood and paper enveloped zir as ze sat down and unpacked zir bag, setting out the subjects in separate piles and reviewing zir planner to see what ze had to do. A lot of work had piled up in the days that ze was still settling in and exploring, and ze was paying for it now, it seemed.
Kimmy set her planner off to the side and pulled the stack of math books in front of her. She had already skipped a day of math homework, and she didn't want that to happen again. She cracked the book open and began the practice problems on a separate sheet of paper, trusting that the library would remain relatively silent so she could do her work.
