Therru was one of those people who preferred not to be the center of attention. In fact, she preferred not to garner much attention at all. Quiet, unobtrusive and unobserved was more her style. If she wasn't to be found on the grounds of Hammel though, there were two places she could be found. The Lake in Pilot Ridge and one of the less frequented cafe's. It was quiet there, and she was left to her own devices. For the rather shy, calm girl it was a haven.

She sat there, warm tea and cookies her only companion. The hat she had worn today also on the table. Her bag that she usually carried with her sat next to her, flipped open so she could easily get into it. She'd been there for a bit now, since classes had let out for the end of the day. Just sitting and drawing, and thinking.

In her idylls she had drawn a girl with long hair, blue circles behind her. The drawing looked a bit like Therru herself, and the theme seemed to fit. Of course, she always drew her drawing only for herself, so it didn't usually matter what she drew. Therru tapped her pencil on the table in a slow rhythm, looking out the window onto the street. Late afternoon sun was streaming in, of which she was grateful. It was warm on her skin, and let her feel calm. So, as such, she wasn't paying attention when someone else came in, the faint bells just barely registering in her thoughts.

Sean was particularly fond of cafes. He enjoyed a strong cup of coffee, even if he didn’t drink it black and some purists might take issue with his added cream and sugar. He also had an unashamed sweet tooth, and his love of baked goods was well-known among his friends and coworkers. The cafes in Pilot Ridge weren’t many in number, but they were friendly and they had both good coffee and baked goods.

As such, when Sean wanted a pick-me-up that included coffee (rather than baked goods alone), he found himself in one of the cafes downtown. That was what had brought him inside today. With nothing else that required his attention, at the moment, he’d been able to take a drive downtown, and he’d stopped inside. After ordering his coffee and buying a cinnamon bun because they looked so fresh, he looked around for a place to sit.

There weren’t many tables, and the nearest open one was located beside a table where a teenager was seated; she looked very much like she could be from Hammel. The psychiatrist took a seat, stirred his coffee, took a sip, and smiled pleasantly at the young woman seated at the next table over.

The music wasn't bad, and she recognized it as Florence and the Machine, probably one of the few pop-ish groups she would listen to willfully. Over that though, she heard a familiar voice ordering coffee and something else. A short fuse of alarm spiked through her, but didn't show. She refused to let it. Dr. Neville was a nice person, but she had managed to staunchly avoid him for the most part. He was a talking kind of person, and she was not a talking kind of person. Thus she had managed to keep away as to not have to talk about ~~the things she probably should~~ things she didn't think needed to be spoken of.

When he sat he smiled, to which she returned a friendly smile to him. Even if she didn't particularly wish to be around him there was no sense in showing it. That was part of her strange definition of manners. Emotion [for the most part] was impolite. She then looked out the window again, before taking a cookie and munching on it as she continued to doodle. Doodles. They were good.

Sean did not recognize the music, but he didn’t keep up with the pop genre. What little pop music he knew was either the result of Ryan playing something for him during a visit or a card ride, or the unfortunate side effect of telepathy. In which a pop song that someone else was thinking about invariably became stuck in his head. However, there was nothing aggressive about the tune and nothing offensive about the lyrics, as far as he could tell. That was all he could ask for these days, since most establishments didn’t cater to his preferred style of music.

It was evident from the girl’s behavior that she wasn’t interested in conversation. He didn’t need the telepathy for that, since – although she had returned his smile – she had then turned away from him to finish with her writing or drawing, whichever she was doing.

While he was a friendly individual, he tried not to impose on too many people outside of work. He certainly didn’t want to disturb someone in the middle of a public space when there wasn’t a pressing need to do so. As such, after she returned his smile and he sent another one her way, he looked down at his coffee and took a sip.

Good, as always, which was one of the many reasons that he continued to come here.

She was glad he didn't come closer. Her smile had not been an invitation, and he was good enough to read that. She was very carefully trying to keep her thoughts in line, but it was harder than one would imagine. The girl was very quiet, and sometimes her thoughts were the same. But the amount of times they bubbled with all sorts of trouble was troubling in itself. Although, she felt that she was doing the best as possible not to internally glare at the psychiatrist. Sometimes that was the hard things. Her face remained inpassive, but she couldn't help but be aware of the fact that he was there. Which was unfortunate as she was slightly tensed now. Adults made her tense, people who wanted to talk or were talky people made her tense. In fact, there were really very things that didn't make her tense.

Home. Winter. Quiet. Those kinds of things she liked.

She finished the drawing, turning the page to a new blank slate. She wasn't sure now what to do. She almost wanted to leave, but to leave just because he had arrived? Rude. It showed disrespect towards a person. But so did just sitting there and ignoring them with as much concentration as was possible. So it was a dilemma. Nothing seemed to have a mannerly end.

From a sense of courtesy, as well as a general desire not to make other people uncomfortable and to maintain the illusion of privacy (and for his own peace of mind), Sean shielded in public. It didn’t mean that he overheard nothing from the minds of others, as that wasn’t how his telepathy functioned. It did mean, however, that he didn’t actively listen to other people’s thoughts when in public, absent a good reason.

That did little to make people comfortable around him who were uncomfortable otherwise, particularly since there was no way to initiate a conversation about the topic that resulted in anything other than every conversation that he’d ever had with Cobalt Weaver.

However, the psychiatrist found nothing uncomfortable in silence, particularly when he wasn’t in a social situation. The fact that a student from Hammel happened to be seated at the table next to him wasn’t an invitation for conversation, particularly with every signal she was giving off. As such, he turned his attention to his own coffee and food and set about eating. At a typical pace. While he didn’t want to make other people uncomfortable with his presence, he was also long past the point of apologizing for his existence.

But he also went out of his way not to focus his attention on her, to give her the illusion of privacy. That was what he could do.
