Transfering[sean]

Pain was a common complaint. So many powers were coupled with painful side-effects, ones that would grow manageable with time and training but which, after manifestation, could seem completely overwhelming. Unfortunately, Sean wasn’t a researcher, nor was he imbued with the ability to make the rules for meta-human development. “Eventually, it won’t hurt, or, at least, it won’t hurt as much. Unfortunately, that takes a lot of training.” Training and time for Bryan’s pain threshold to readjust itself in light of the new normal.

The psychiatrist overheard Bryan’s thoughts, and he admired the boy’s enthusiasm. When he had first manifested his telepathy, Sean had experienced far less eagerness. He had yearned for silence and an end to the migraines; a desire to experiment arose much later.

The enthusiasm would serve Bryan well. It meant that the boy didn’t suffer from some of the self-loathing that many young meta-humans experienced. In turn, this meant that the younger Rixon had one fewer adolescent weight crushing him as he tried to navigate puberty, school, and social interaction. Offering Bryan a smile, the psychiatrist said, “I’m glad to hear that you like them.” Not everyone was so fortunate.
