Caroline had been pointed in Amber's direction as someone who understood shifting into a small creature. Another bug at that! So when the younger meta spotted the other girl in the student lounge she dropped the book she was reading (not literally, there was a book mark involved) and trotted over to the older, more experienced Meta.

"HI! You're Amber right?" After obtaining an affirmative, Caroline plowed right on, "One of my classmates told me that you shifted into a bug too and that you'd be awesome to talk to about it. It really hurts when I shift down and I don't want to do it, but I have to do it so can you help me?"

Amber was surprised to find himself accosted by a younger student, and about his powers at that. Generally other people shared his aversion to spiders; he didn't blame them. But he also liked people, and making new friends, and so he gave her a wide grin.

"I can help, sure. Although I don't exactly turn into a bug."

Just the thought of bugs, generally, made his stomach growl audibly, and he gave it a stern glare.

"But I can try to help, what kind of help do you need? What do you turn into?"

"I turn into a ladybug. But it's really super painful and I don't like it. I'm not really very good at it. And Miss Mii says that it gets easier, but I don't know if I believe her. Does it? Does it get easier? What do you turn into? Another ladybug?" She was so hopeful, and Amber looked like she'd make a fantastic ladybug!

Not that he found that to be particularly comforting himself, since he never intended to use his power except during training, but then again, training was useful for control. It wasn't very fun to transform under duress.

Mmm, ladybugs. He really wished that the thought of ladybugs didn't make him salivate; it was somewhat disturbing.

Particularly when a ladybug shifter was standing in front of him...and asking what he shifted into.

"Oh! Umm. I turn into a spider. I guess some people consider that a bug."

Relieved that someone else, not an adult who's job it was to make her feel better, said that shifting would get easier too. The tension in Caroline's shoulders relaxed and her face lit up. Maybe Amber would be willing to help. Maybe she could help find ways to shift that weren't so painful.

And then the bomb dropped.

Spider.

Spider.

"....." Caroline had tried to say something but the only thing that came out of her mouth was a tiny, high pitched squeek before she turned on her heels, ran waist first into a chair. Oh that'd hurt. But it didn't slow her down for long. She fled the student lounge and ran straight for Dr. Neville's office.

Spider. Who changed into a spider of all things?!

Amber watched Caroline flee, somewhat nonplussed by this situation. Of course, not everyone was comfortable with his power, and he understood that, but this was the first time someone had actually run away from him.

"...Am I that scary?" He wondered aloud, before his stomach emitted another growl, and his attention was diverted from the younger student's departure.

"Guess I'll go see if Ariel wants to hit the cafeteria." He decided. He would, of course, tell her all about this encounter, but the most important goal was to have food. Good, delicious, non-ladybug food.

And maybe, just maybe, he would see Caroline later and try to win her over.

But first, food.
