Masters of Disaster (Jared, Danicca, and Matthew)

[Aaron Walker]

AJ had stopped Jared in the hallways the day before to ask him if there was any stretch of time when Danicca would be out of the room the next day. After hearing that she would, AJ smiled in what he hoped was a wickedly mischievous way, but he sorta looked like he had just lost his mind. He refused to tell the boy anything else. Instead he only giggled and told Jared he’d stop by his room the next day. “Just trust me,” he said. “And don’t tell anyone about…about anything.” He was trying to be tough and mysterious, but he had a feeling he wasn’t doing it just right.

AJ was still giggling when he arrived at Jared’s door with a large duffle bag the next day. He knocked on the door a few times. “Jared? You there?” he called in a loud whisper. “Come on man. Let me in before anyone sees me.” He knocked on the door a few more times.

When Jared opened the door, AJ ran by the boy into the room. He attempted to suppress his giggle and look tough. “So,” he said, making his voice a little deeper than usual. He hoped it helped with the tough guy act. “You know how Danicca is always messin with you? And everyone else? ” He held up the duffle bag, smiling like a maniac. “How’d ya like to give her a taste of her own candy?...I mean…uh…medicine?”

When the name ‘Danicca’ sprang up out of the blue in the middle of their conversation the day before, Jared looked visibly surprised. Not that the name was a hush-hush between him and Aaron (like say, Voldemort’s name among the Wizarding World), but even with his relatively eccentric train of thought, he couldn’t have placed Avatar: The Last Airbender and Avatar: The Legend of Korra alongside the dreaded prankster.

Confusion aside though, Jared remembers her shouting something about being with her brother for a while, though he’s not sure if it was for him or for the blonde weather manipulator playing video games beside him. (“They’re acting awfully weird really,” he says as he ponders on the memory, “It’s like something’s up. Not bad for us, just…something.”) A loud laugh emerged from the Canadian boy’s mouth as AJ’s facial expression changed, not really knowing what it was supposed to be. “Stop doing that, you look a whole lot more stupid than you usually are.” It may sound rather harsh, but the stream of laughter and the arm that was placed over the boy’s shoulders should’ve been enough to say that Jared said such things without malice.

He was idly playing Little Big Planet when he heard a knock on his door the next day, so it took a while to pause the whole thing and walk over to open it. “What’s with the bag?” he asked as he let his friend in, tilting his head as he took a quick look outside to see if anyone saw Aaron come in. Seems stealth is part of whatever the boy’s scheming, might as well play along.

“Own medicine?” He stood silent for a bit, trying to figure out what it meant. A smirk crept on his face when it finally hit him.

“So, what’s the plan?”

Even though AJ knew his deep gangster-ish voice made him sound like a totally idiot, he couldn’t help but use it in situation like this. Girl-ish giggling is not really allowed when you’re attempting to prank someone, right?

“Wouldn’t you like to know?” AJ asked smiling, as he dumped out the contents of his duffle bag. He started laughing as the contents pilled up on the floor. They included three tubes of crazy glue, a dozen packs of post-it notes (several different colors), dental floss, party poppers, baby powder, a roll of duct tape, a jar of Vaseline, and a sandwich bag full of sand and small pebbles from around the pond.

“So what do you think?” he said. “We can glue her make-up to the counter; cover everything in yellow and green post-its; set up baby powdered filled poppers; and fill her shoes with gooey sand.” He grinned and gestured to the pile on the floor. “So what should we do first?” AJ was ready to do it all. He had been up the previous few nights planning it all out. Unfortunately, he hadn’t looked far enough ahead to figure out what she might do to them once she found out what had happened, but that would come later. Right now, he just wanted to offer his new bud a way to get back at his tormenter. Several ways.

Jared’s eyes widened in mischievous delight and his smirk became even wider when Aaron began dumping the contents of his bag in front of him. Never in the Canadian boy’s wildest dreams could he think of a scheme so elaborate; his mind is more or less confined to ‘childish’ pranks such as hiding the said victim’s glitter pen (which he insists is something so important to his sister that she couldn’t live without) or tripping his brother as he goes to the washroom.

“Oh god AJ,” he said with glee and awe, “You are so awesome. If you (or me) were gay, I would smother you with my kisses right now.” So instead he simply hugged the younger boy. He happily grabbed each prop, a guttural ‘Meeheehee’ escaping him every now and then. Aaron shouldn’t feel bad about looking like an absolute loony now; Jared’s practically doing the same thing, if not more.

At the question of what to do first, Jared promptly stopped and sat back, scratching his head as if it would give him answers. “Well, we could always split up. I’m fairly sure I can assemble what you’re planning as long as you tell me what I need to do. You can start on the sand shoes, I’ll do the make-up glue. It’ll be faster.” While he knows she’ll be out for a long time, possibly the whole day, stuff happens and she may be forced to go home early. “We only have one shot at this after all.”

Standing up, he hurriedly locked the door and pushed a few chairs and sofas in front of it. “So we’d know if she, or someone, is coming in.” Especially since neither of them are telepaths. “I’m not sure if her room’s open though. You know how to pick locks?”

“Oh. And you think I can sleep in your room about a week after this? Dani’ll be really pissed after all.” Who knows what she’ll do in his sleep.[/justify][/blockquote][/font]

AJ was glad that Jared was all for his ideas for a prank. He had worried a little that the boy would be too afraid to try to pull anything. Or that he would be too nice. Although AJ was usually nice, he also believed in karma. And he was sure it was high time for Danicca to receive some of what she had been dishing out.

“Dude,” AJ said, playfully shoving Jared away. “You keep talking like that and people are gonna think we are gay.” He poked Jared in the ribs a few times before handing him the glue. “You don’t need an explanation right? Just make sure you use a lot, but not so much it leaks around the sides and shows it’s glued. Okay? And whatever you do, do not open the glue with your teeth. Seriously.” He smiled and poked Jared a few more times.

“Locked?” AJ was worried for a second, he hadn’t thought of that. He dug around in his pockets, tossing bouncy balls and packs of gum onto the floor before pulling out a tiny screwdriver. “Think we could use this on it?”

“Of course you can hide out in my room,” AJ said. “Just don’t steal my bed.” He laughed and went to work on the locked door.

If it had been any other person, Jared would no doubt decline the offer. While he’s all for some good old teasing, pranks have never really sat well with him. The embarrassment and emotional trauma, to an extent, is just too much for him. Not to mention the guilt that he feels afterwards. But Dani was a special case – she always was, always has been and always will be. The boy doubts he’d ever feel remorse for any pain he’ll inflict her. If only he knew.

“They’re just jealous,” Jared laughed, playfully sending Aaron a glare when he was shoved away and poked. He happily accepted the glue and grabbed the poppers and powder; the glue was an awesome idea and anything with powder has always been a win in his book. (He used to waste talc powder in his house, putting it on the floor and sliding around, pretending he’s ice skating). “Don’t tempt me,” he teased, “Who knows, I might just decide to play a prank of my own and glue your lips together.”

He didn’t bother suppressing the gigglechuckle that came from him when he saw all the stuff that got thrown out from the younger boy’s pockets. He’ll never cease to be amused about the sheer number of stuff AJ can pack in those pants. “Hopefully,” he shrugged, grabbing the screwdriver and trying to pick it like he’s seen in movies. No good. “I suck at this. Want to try it?”

“I won’t. I’ll kick you out of your bed though. You sleep on the floor, I’ll be on your bed.” He’s such a grateful friend like that. “You won’t want people thinking we’re a couple right?” he added with a smug grin.

“Dude,” he said, grabbing the screwdriver back from Jared. “If you prank me….I’ll…” he switched back to his deep gangster voice. “I’ll make you wish you were never born.” He managed to finish the sentence without laughing. But as soon as he did, he almost fell on the floor laughing. So much for his tough guy act.

“You wouldn’t really glue my lips together, right?’ he asked once he had caught his breath, suddenly worried that the boy might be serious. “Cuz that would kinda suck.” As he waited for Jared’s reply, he turned his attention to the locked door and managed to unlock it, though he had no idea what he was actually doing. “Hey cool! I did it!” he said, surprised. “Maybe I can be a secret spy agent when I grow up?”

He started to look around Danicca’s room for shoes to fill with Vaseline. “And I wouldn’t mind you stealing my bed, actually. It’s kinda boring to sleep in the same place all the time anyway.” Truth was, AJ often sleep in random areas of the school grounds from time to time. Although he didn’t really mind, or even really know, his roommates there was something about living in close quarters that made him long for a change of scenery from time to time. Sitting on the floor by a pile of shoes he opened the Vaseline jar and started to smear the soles of the shoes with a thick coating. “Why do girls have so many shoes?” he asked, genuinely curious.

Jared didn’t bother stopping himself from chuckling when Aaron did his whole fear-me-I’m-a-gangster impression; he could honestly say that it did nothing to make the boy more threatening in his mind. Not only has he been with the boy for far too long now that nothing he does seem out of the ordinary, but seriously, he’s as dangerous as a very soft pillow and a cozy blanket. Him rolling all over the floor is totally not helping his case either.

“N’aww. Of course I won’t. You’re my gay husband right?” he laughed, his arms slung casually over the sound manipulator’s shoulders as he worked on the lock, “And besides, that’s so childish. If anything, I’d tie you up then present you to Dani as a sacrifice. She can have her way with you as long as she lets me go. Doesn’t that sound great?” Not that he’d ever do that, but hey, it sounds way more realistic than AJ’s threat. He gave the younger boy’s hair a good ruffle to placate his fears though, just in case he’s actually thinking than Jared might do that to him.

His eyes widened when he heard that familiar ‘click’ that signaled the opening of a dorm door. “You’re such a genius!” shouted the sixteen year-old, bouncing up and down for a bit as he threw his arms in the arm. “You’re planning on being one too? That’s awesome! We could be partners!” It’s the only sane route with his power anyway, or at least that’s what Jared thinks. And with one final noogie, he dash into his arch-nemesis’ lair, an impish grin smeared on his face.

Jared didn’t just stop at gluing the make-up to Danicca’s desk. He went on and superglued her pens, notebooks and even tin can holders. He chuckled ever so darkly at the thought of the trouble he’s currently causing. “Dani’s an ogre. Or ogress since she’s ‘supposedly’ a girl.” Yes, Jared’s rather petty and goes there from time to time. “She needs so much shoes because once she wears one, her ogre-nature makes the used shoe rot. She never brushes her teeth too. And is deathly scared of bath water.”

“Whoa, wait a minute!” AJ said, throwing of the asian boy’s arm. “I never agreed to marry you!” He was pretty sure Jared was joking about the whole thing with Danicca, but he still he couldn’t help but shiver at the thought of being tied up and waiting for her to find him. “Seriously dude,” AJ said, looking at Jared with terror in his eyes. “Don’t ever sacrifice me to Dani, the horribly cruel and vengeful god. Please?”

AJ didn’t really have any clue what he wanted to be when he grew up. He planned on staying a kid as long as possible. But if being a secret agent meant working with Jared, then it couldn’t be that bad. “We’ll have to think of really cool names for ourselves,” AJ said. “Like the…uh...the Tag-Team Tricksters! What do ya think?” he gave Jared a hopeful smile.

Finished with the Vaseline smearing, AJ dumped the bag of sand into the shoes as well. He cracked up at Jared’s ogre comment as he dug into his bag for the party poppers. He carefully peeled off the cardboard circle on the bottom of the first one and dumped out the confetti. Using the baby powder, he re-filled it and replaced the cardboard circle. He held it up to Jared. “Check this bad boy out!” he couldn’t help but giggle as he imagined it exploding into Danicca’s face. Grabbing the dental floss and duct tape, he started to look for a place to set up the trap. “Where should I put it?”

Jared laughed and simply threw his arm around Aaron once more, hugging him closer as he stuck his tongue out. “Dude, you’re epic. Keep doing that and I’d really announce to the world that we’re having twins in July,” he grinned, patting AJ’s stomach then giving him a noogie before shoving him inside Dani’s room. Not that he’d actually do that of course; he’s already got it hard being mistaken as a girl with his soft features, heaven knows how hard it’ll be to regain his almost inexistent masculine image should he proudly shout to the world – even in a joking manner – that Aaron’s his ‘gay husband’. “And besides, you aren’t pretty enough. Add a ribbon here and a lipstick there, then maybe you’d have a chance.”

“I won’t. Who else would help me plan these things again if I do?” He’d be resigned to petty tricks had it not been for the younger boy really. Now he’s actually looking forward to the next big prank. “A bit tacky, but I think that’d work.” It’s not like he can think of anything cooler. Dynamic Duo’s the best his got really. “But I don’t think it’d matter much. We’re secret agents anyway. No one should know our identity,” he wagged his finger as he glued the last pen to Dani’s desk.

His glue-trick done, he decided he’d check out his archenemy’s wardrobe, hoping to find something incriminating. Unfortunately for him, her closet’s empty. “Woah. She doesn’t have anything inside her drawers,” he muttered, a bit loudly so that Aaron would hear. He was just about to give it all up when he saw a stack of suitcases down the corner. “Jackpot.”

A brief glance inside and he’s already disgusted. Instead he put glue all over her suitcase, hoping it’d effectively shut them tight.

“Oh oh! Put it on her door. So when she comes in, bam.” The party poopers-talc powder was an excellent idea in his opinion. He should remember to praise AJ about it later. “And maybe inside her closet too.”

“Do we have to do anything else again? Or should we go out and act like we did nothing now?”

“Twins?” AJ said, staring down at his stomach. For a moment he was seriously worried about how two babies would find a way to fit there. Then it occurred to him that he was not pregnant. And he was a guy. He smiled at Jared and shoved him lightly. “How come I have to be the pregnant one anyway?”

He started setting up a trip wire in both the door frame and the closet. He was still having trouble shaking the idea of being pregnant. “Dude,” he said, out loud. “I’m so glad I’m not a girl.” Finished with the last prank, he tossed the post-it notes to Jared, along with a few sharpies from his pockets. “I thought you might want to leave some evil sounding notes for her to find,” he said.

He stood in the middle of the room to survey the damage. He couldn’t help but giggle as he pictured the look on Dani’s face when she returned. Looking at his watch he called to Jared, “Maybe we should get outta here. You know, before the ogress returns to her lair and kills us.”

[D]A[N]NC!?

The "ogress" in question was, in fact, returning to her lair just then. And, unfortunately for AJ and Jared, she had big brother Frankenstein (AKA Matthew) with her. She was attempting to find her wallet, which had somehow fallen out of her messenger bag, and they hadn't found it at any of the places the two had gone that day, so they were checking her dorm room before they gave up and had to get her a new ID. They hadn't been out half as long as Dani would have liked, but this wallet had a picture of her and Matt from the first family vacation they had taken together. That held a level of importance beyond what Dani generally puts on objects, so they headed back as quickly as they legally could to see if she had simply forgotten it in her room somewhere. She hadn't told Matt of the picture in question because that would require explaining that she had stolen the picture from mom's photo album before she'd left for Hammel.

So Dani stepped into the dorm room known as hers, expecting that she would step in, look for her wallet, and be done for the day. But, as it would turn out, someone had another plan.The instant she stepped over the threshold, two things happened. One; she realized someone was in her room. Two; she hit the tripwire.

As the white powder exploded into her face with an audible pop-poof, Dani had several unsavory thoughts cross her mind, all of which were drowned out by the sudden failure to breathe properly. She would have run in and killed whoever did this had she not suddenly doubled over in a coughing fit, placing her hand on the door-frame for support. Every time she tried to look up and tell whoever decided to prank the prankster off, she slid further down in another fit of coughs. See, this was shy she didn't use things like that for pranking. There was the possibility that a person had asthma she didn't know about, so she could accidentally kill a person. Dani didn't have asthma, as far as she knew, but this stuff had gone directly down her airway when she gasped at the sudden stuff in her face.

As soon as she could breathe again, Dani looked at who was messing with her room... And found the two people she'd thought too chicken to try anything against her staring back at her. She hissed out an extremely menacing "You." and lauched herself at Jared's face.

Matthew was probably in shock as to what his sister was getting into, but this was Dani's life now. He had to get used to it.

[Jared Park]

“Because I said so,” said Jared with a smug grin, sticking his tongue out and returning AJ’s shove with a playful butt bump, “That, and you’d look good in a skirt. Your legs are wonderful.” He then laughed so loud, hoping Aaron would realize that he’s just joking. He’s never really paid attention to AJ’s legs anyway. He wasn’t interested, and even if he was, the boy’s stories are a whole lot more awesome. Even if he does like scaring/shocking him from time to time.

Surprisingly, Jared’s clumsiness momentarily vanished and allowed him to catch the post-its and sharpies midair. “You still not over that?” he chuckled as he sat on Dani’s bed and began writing stupid little things like ‘I know you have a crush on Nathan’, ‘Your pink socks are dorky’ and ‘Are you sure you’re a girl? ‘Cause you have a hairier armpit than my dad.’ “Dude, if you’re a girl, I wouldn’t be hanging out with you much.” Well, not really. If Aaron is still that adorable kid that has the ability to follow his train of thought, well, even if he’d be a loud four year-old Jared would still probably bug him.

He had just finished sticking the post-its all over (he wrote about twenty) and was just about to follow Aaron out when the door opened and the poppers went off. And by gods was it glorious. “Oh. My. Gosh. Aaron you’re a genius!” he said as he laughed so loud, one hand clutching his stomach as another held on to the younger boy’s shoulder for support.

But they didn’t have much time to savor their revenge. Within moments, the ogress Danicca was back on her feet and was lunging at them. “Come on! Run!” he sidestepped Dani and dragged Aaron out by the sleeve of his shirt, not knowing that her brother’s just outside. He’d just say sorry later.

If they survive this, that is.

[Matthew Waylan]

Matt was following Dani through the dorm rooms. His sister had lost her wallet and was desperately searching for it. He knew there was something in it that was very important to her. I mean she didn't have a lot of money and there were no credit cards or anything, but she was searching for it so desperately (and dragging him along in the process ) that he knew there must be something important. They had been everywhere that the two had gone for the day and there was still no luck. he sighed as he walked towards the room his sister was in. There, of course she was promptly going to search for it more. Maybe she had dropped it? Or forgotten it somewhere?

Matt had decided to wait for her outside, gosh he didn't want to go in her room, it was a mess. He was about to open the door and speak to her when he saw his sister step in. two things happened. Someone else was in her room and a bucket of flour dumped on her. He stood stark still for a mere second before advancing from the door to the doorframe trying to get to his sister. He vaguely heard two boys talking. It was obvious they were the ones responsible for trying to kill his sister. He slowly backed down when she caught a hold of her breath. He didn't really want to interfere in Dani's problems, as she would be the one who would have to solve them, but when she lunged at the two he knew this would escalate into a fight.

Matt quickly stepped into view when The two sidestepped Dani and were trying to make a beeline towards the door. Bracing himself for the impending impact Matt put on his beset glare and looked at the two responsible pranksters. They were a brave sort to try and prank his sister. He really didn't blame them, and was sure they probably had been the victims of her past pranks. Especially from the way they had messed with her room. It was obvious they were here for revenge. Matt gave a dark grin and chuckled. He had no intentions of letting them get away. Sorry boys, as much as he admires your bravery, his loyalties lie withe the ogress.

AJ was grinning happily at the though that Jared considered him a genius when Danicca walked into the room, setting off the powder-popper. He laughed loudly for a moment, until she started wheezing and coughing. Oh no! he thought. I’ve killed her! He was starting to picture him and Jared in a lock-up somewhere for the rest of their lives, when Danicca caught her breath and launched herself at Jared.

“Wait!” he said, jumping between them. “I set that trap up, not Jared.” He wasn’t speaking to preserve Jared’s safety. Or even to attempt to divert her anger. He just wanted to make sure he was given full credit for the genius idea.

Jared’s safety from bodily harm, and AJ’s own, only occurred to him once Jared had started dragging him out of the room by his shirt. “Oh right,” he said, giving Danicca a frightful look. She looked like she might actually kill them this time.

He ran full force into Matt, while still looking over his shoulder at Danicca. Falling back onto the floor, he put his hands around his head, trying to hide himself. “Please don’t kill us, ogress,” he said. “My mom would be so sad. Besides, I just got an awesome kite from my uncle. And I haven’t even gotten a chance to try it out yet.” Shaking on the fear, he peeked through the cracks in his fingers, to see if Danicca was wielding any sort of weapon. “Please?”
