Date Night {Callie}

[Jez Steele]

Jez finished getting dressed and looked in the mirror one more time before she headed out. Her hair was curled in big ringlets, her bangs swept to one side and her make up looked perfect. She stepped back and spun in a circle quickly, yep her dress spun out just how she liked it. She had texted Callie on Thursday and simply told her, 'Wear something classy but something you can still move around in. I'll pick you up at seven.'

She sighed softly and spoke to herself, "Come on girl, no more stalling. Let's go."

So with little else to do Jez locked her apartment up and went down to her convertible and headed back to the school where she would pick up Callie.

Something classy. Something she could move in.

The visit from her brother had been helpful; Eric was a perfect sound board when it came to what she should wear for things. Callie gave him the brief and received his approval for her outfit when she decided on it the day before.

Calliope looked at the time as she slipped the last pin into her hair to keep it upright, leaving her room as quickly as possible to escape being questioned by her roommate. She wasn't sure if he would care, but she didn't have time to explain her plans. Still, Callie figured it was a good idea to head out of the dorms and save time by meeting Jez at her car.

Jez pulled up to the dorms just as she saw Callie walking towards her. Jez parked her car and got out to hold open her door, "You look quite lovely this evening m'lady," she winked at Callie with a teasing grin.

She meant every word but what's life without a little fun? Through the open door both could hear a few notes of Toccata And Fugue for the organ. She had such a wide selection of music and always had her ipod on shuffle it wasn't even funny sometimes. Rather ominous music for Callie to be getting in to the car with Jez and she glanced back at her Ipod, as if it had planned it all along.

Callie smiled at the compliment as it was given, gesturing to her as she moved to hold the door open. "Hey, so do you." Any ounce of nerves that she might have felt when talking with her brother in the dorms was gone by now, and all that remained was ner naturally confident self. She was glad he was there to talk and dance it out with her.

And she felt her eyes narrow slightly at the music that flowed from the car. Those few widely familiar notes that brought the questioning glance to her face. "I'm never coming back, am I?" She joked lightly before falling into the passenger's seat.

Jez smiled teasingly as she closed the door for Callie. Before she did though she winked at her, "Only if you don't want to."

She went around to her side of the car got in before she reached down and handed Callie the Ipod, "You can find pretty much anything on there so help yourself. It's going to be a little bit of a ride," she winked at Callie again before she looked back at the road and started driving to their destination.

There was only one way that Jez got them in where she did, connections, everywhere was all about connections. Jez unconsciously rested her arm on the center console as she always did, not thinking about how good of an opportunity that would be for them to hold hands.

Callie took hold of the iPod as it was handed to her, making sure that there was at least a little point of contact between their hands. Just like last time, it was for the hint of a spark that came from such a connection. Short and sweet. She smiled graciously towards her, rifling through the artists on the device.

Music was a good way to learn about a person. Rather than making a choice, she went to songs and just clicked shuffle. Whatever happened would happen.

Shifting in her seat, she consciously found herself leaning in her direction. That threshold of making another physical connection? Callie just wasn't sure if she was interested in anything like that yet. Some people didn't always like the way she approached physical contact with such a simple thought process. So she only shifted slightly.

"You have a really broad taste of music," Callie said curiously, thinking back to what she had noticed before, "What's that about?"

Jez noticed her leaning closer as she drove on. Jez grinned crookedly as she heard Callie's question. "What about it? Music is my life. It got me through everything that has happened, and my brothers, can't forget them."

She couldn't wait anymore, she slipped her hand against Callie's and laced their fingers together without looking at her. "Oh that reminds me, I need to make a new playlist, hmmm. What are some good songs?"

She bit her lip slightly as she thought about it then shrugged, "Aw well I'll figure it out later."

"A lot of people just like a specific style," Callie mentioned, looking over towards her, "I mean, it's nice that you're not held up by that." Her mind caught briefly on the mention of her having brothers. She'd thought to ask about them, but then her attention was drawn elsewhere. The sudden feeling of skin to skin contact; Callie's eyes were drawn to their hands at the move.

She smiled at the contact as her eyes drew upwards towards the road again, "You'll have to hang around in my dorm one afternoon. I could take you through the music I have." Her brow crinkled slightly at her own words. Was that what he had been talking about? Oh well...

"So music is your life." She repeated with a nod, taking in the information for sure. "And you said you have brothers?" Again, Callie looked in her direction. Hopefully she had a good relationship with them; she couldn't imagine having anything less than a perfect relationship with her two brothers.

Jez raised a curious eyebrow, "Oh?" she grinned teasingly before she glanced over at Callie, "I'd love to see your collection."

She bit her lip to keep from grinning to broadly when she heard Callie come up short slightly as she took her hand. Even if that was the only reaction, the smile she got from her was well worth it. Just then a death metal song came on and while Jez liked it, she wasn't in the mood for something so dark. So she hit a button on her steering wheel and said, "Play next song."

Without pause that one stopped and the next song that came on was Fullmoon by Sonata Arctica. She glanced over at Callie and grinned when she asked about her brothers, "I have three older brothers, all four of us are three years apart. The oldest is Mitchell, he is our Energizer Bunny if you get my drift, then there's Angus, he's a complete bookworm and we're all pretty sure he's going to be one of the best lawyer's ever when he wants to be, and then there's Cameron, he and I are the closest and no matter what he's always been there for me," she looked over at Callie as they got off of the freeway and stopped at a red light, "What about you?"

A small jolt of surprise came from Callie's form as the death metal song came on. If nothing else, it was because she didn't expect it to happen. She was a little grateful that the song was changed. Listening to her speak about her brothers, it was clear how close she must have been to all of them. Callie's smile grew a little wider.

"I have two older brothers; Eric and Niko. Eric's the oldest. He goes to college to study business at the University of Vermont. He's like... My best friend. I mean, he's my half brother but you wouldn't know it. Niko's been living in Greece with my Yia Yia for a few months, so it's hard not to get to see him as much." She paused suddenly, realising what she had said. "Sorry. Yia Yia means grandmother."

And she started to chuckle lightly as another thought popped into her head. "They're both really protective, too. So... Yeah." Callie looked over at her curiously, giving her hand a small squeeze. Eric could be overbearing, but she doubted he would do that to a girl.

Jez looked over at Callie curiously, 'Yia Yia?' But she quickly answered that, probably to her look and off they went. When they finally pulled up to the club Jez glanced over at Callie. It was a swing club, "Hope you like this. I figured something different would be good."

She got out and held the door for Callie then held her hand out to her, "M'lady."

When they got up to the door they just surpassed the line to much looks of dislike and a few wolf whistles but Jez just approached the doorman and he instantly smiled at her and looked over at Callie, "Do Laird Grant know 'is we lamb is on date, with a lass none the less?"

Jez glared at him, a glare that would have anyone but a Scot quaking in his boots. The doorman just grinned at her and he said something in Gaelic while looking Callie up and down. Jez blushed slightly but responded in Gaelic and he chuckled before holding the door open for them, "Just make sure she doesn't drink Spitfire!"

Without glancing back she lead Callie inside and before they hit the music she looked at her, "I am so sorry about him. Not every Scot is as bad as he is. He just gives us a bad name."

They got into the inner room to see a lot of different round tables surrounding a large stage and Jez led her straight to a table near the stage. She sat down next to Callie and spoke in her ear over the music, "I thought we could have dinner first and then dance the night away," she winked at Callie before the waiter came to their table.

Callie accepted the hand that was offered to her, stepping out of the car and looking around. Nope, it wasn't anywhere that she recognised. And they were completely bypassing the line too. Wait till she told Eric about this! They were stopped at the door, and someone had said something that was easily deciphered for someone used to English with thick accents. Something about her dad? It felt like an absent guess...

Being looked up and down was... Interesting. Calliope averted her eyes from the guy. The whole thing felt so surreal that it was almost hard to keep up, so she let each moment breeze by with little thought.

Spitfire? That was a clear nickname, one that she stored away for later questioning. "Don't worry about it." She said lightly. Another thing she learned; a Scottish heritage? Nevertheless, she had no issue with being directed around a place she'd never been before. The whole situation was impressive, but were they being watched or something?

It was hard not to be distracted when she felt her breath against her skin. "You were blushing," Callie pointed out, leaning inward to talk into her ear, "It's cute."

Jez rolled her eyes and glanced at Callie. Before she could respond though the waiter came up to take their drink order and hand them their menu. It was a true swing club but since the band wasn't up to par yet everyone was enjoying their meal. "He was wondering how someone as incredibly sexy as you ended up with someone like me."

She knew that it was him simply teasing, everyone knew who Lord Grant was but the doorman was special, he was a good friend of Mitchell's so he was like another older brother, "I'm sorry about him I really am. He had Mitchell's permission to torment me if necessary."

Callie was surprised that she really was the topic of conversation. Nevertheless, she instantly knew how to respond to what was said to her; "I like you." Spoken with a simple shrug as though it was a clear fact. It should have been clear. Why else would she be here if it wasn't?

She was most definitely used to brotherly teasing. She could sympathise moreso after her conversation about this night with Eric. "It's fine. Really, don't worry." Callie offered reassurance, coupled with a small nudge with her shoulder and a smile.

Jez smiled then looked down at her menu, "So what are you thinking of having? Everything here is pretty good."

After they had eaten Jez stood and held out her hand to Callie, "May I have this dance?"

The band was playing Boogie Woogie Buggle Boy and she couldn't sit still anymore, and noticing that Callie couldn't either, it was either dance or watch her date go off and dance. Jez knew a few steps to swing dance and if she didn't, well they could wing it and still have fun.
