It's Okay to be Gay (Vincent)

Lucy had been called into Vincent's office the day after she walked in on him doing whatever he was doing with some student. They had given her some pretty dirty looks and she sort of understood why, but it was still their fault. Seriously, they were on school grounds! That kind of thing was easily hidden if not on campus, after all.

Poor secrecy, guys.

She knocked this time, waiting until she got the okay to come into his office before she did. She had enough time to get through this without missing anything from her first class, but still, Lucy felt like she should have told someone where she was going to be.

"What's up?" Lucy asked, looking at where she could sit down.

Once again, Vincent had not slept well. This was not an unusual occurrence, as he hadn't been sleeping normally since his powers manifested, but yesterday had been especially stressful and hand only compounded the issue. Regardless, he was back in his office hours before the first bell, painting white primer on the walls of his office where Leiken's minor vengeance escapade and subsequent cleaning had left them a faintly pinkish color. Most of the walls were done, and he was rolling on the the last of the paint when a knock came from the door. He called out for whomever it was to come in, pretty sure of who had come calling.


When he turned around from the work, it turned out he was right; Lucy stood there, apparently looking for someplace to sit. The trainer gestured for the teen to take a seat in one of the wooden chairs (both on the other side of the desk for the moment), and set the roller down. It was very chilly in the room, as the window had to be opened to provide proper ventilation, but the older man didn't seem to notice much. He removed the painting mask covering his face and greeted her before closing the window to a crack for her comfort. "Thank you for coming by so quickly, Miss Serrano," he greeted.


Leaning in the window (as it seemed to be one of his favorite places to perch when talking to students), his face looked somewhat serious as he broached the topic. "I believe we need to discuss what you think you saw yesterday."

Lucy nodded once, sitting on a chair on the other side of the desk. She lifted her legs and crossed them as she sat, shrugging her shoulders once to get comfortable. She rolled down the sleeves to her sweater, rubbing her arms a few times. The cold, unfortunately, was never something she had gotten used to. Give her the sweltering sun over freakin' snow.

"Hey." She replied shortly, looking at him leaning against the window.

Lucy felt a small shiver when he said they had to talk about yesterday. She should have told someone she was here! She thought about texting Shy, but it was too late. "If you want, yeah." She replied lightly. Treading lightly was important.

Noticing the shiver that coursed through Lucy and the subsequent rubbing of her shoulders, the trainer adopted a slightly sympathetic look and reached over to turn up the thermostat. It clicked after a certain point, and the centralized heating system would start warming the room momentarily. "I am sorry for the cold," he apologized. "It is a poor time of year for painting indoors, but I could not put it off."


There was a nervousness to the girl at the mention of the night before, and Vincent made a gesture of calm with one hand. "I am not here to threaten you, Miss Serrano," he replied gently. "I merely wish to stem any rumors that may come of this. What you saw can be easily misunderstood, and I would wish no grief on you or my student for this." He was honest and clear with melanokinetic, trying to make her see her error. This was all about perception, and people could be hurt if a misconstrued gesture of empathy was perceived as something it was not.

"S'okay. I'm just used to hot weather." Lucy replied. She didn't really mind all that much, it was just something she had never quite gotten used to.

She sighed heavily when he said he wasn't going to threaten her. She kind of knew that already, but this place was freakin' mental. She wouldn't put it past anyone here to do crazy things and have it be okay. Also, she was painfully paranoid in every way. "Oh, dude I didn't tell anyone. Don't worry about that." Lucy replied. She didn't have anyone to tell anyway, but still. She raised her hand, waving it idly in his direction. "It's okay. You guys can do what you want, y'know? Just be careful since it's meant to be a secret..."

While he was relieved that she hadn't told anyone about the incident yet, Vincent was still troubled. Her believing that something like that had occurred between him and Lei was something of a problem, as there were a number of telepaths and other such mind readers at this school with less scruples than herself. It would only take one of them giving a passing notice of her thoughts on the subject to spread a rumor like wildfire.


"Let me be very clear," he stated, voice firm. "There is nothing of that sort of nature between myself and my students. Whether you believe it or not, that is the truth, and I would appreciate your discretion in the matter."

Lucy let his words wash over her. She clasped her hands together in her lap, remaining silent throughout the whole thing. By the end, there was a light in her eyes and she had that look of someone who had finally caught on.

"Riiight." Lucy said finally, leaning forward and offering the guy a wink and a nod. "I get ya. Nothing going on. Got it. Perfectly clear." And she grinned. Oh yeah, she thought she caught on to something; he wanted her to remain totally quiet about the subject, and she could totally do that.

Somehow, Vincent didn't quite believe that the message had gotten through to her. However, her attitude was less skeptical and nervous than when she'd arrived, so he guessed that she at least understood him on some level. Even if she still didn't believe him.


"Well then, Miss Serrano," he sighed, shaking his head, "you may go. I do not wish to keep you from class or your friends." The trainer didn't really expect her to keep quiet, though he hoped that she would. In reality, what happened would happen and he would have to deal with the fallout later.

"Okay." Lucy replied. So... That was it?

Huh, Lucy was really surprised by how short the meeting had become. So all he wanted to do was make sure she didn't spill his secret to people? Well, she figured she could do that. Especially since he had sort of helped her out with that impromptu training session. She got up from her seat, dusting off her sleeves and fixing to roll them back up to her elbows. She ran her fingers through her fringe to ensure it's perfection and she went to the door.

When she opened the door she stopped in the frame, contemplating something serious before she turned back and closed it again. "Hey dude, just treat him good okay? Cause it's a hard enough situation without him finding out he's just been dicked around- uhh, metaphorically. Y'know?"

A look of confusion settled on the trainer's face. He wasn't exactly sure what Lucy had meant by "dicked around", although from her context it seemed to be some sort of slang for treating someone poorly. Still, it wasn't often that someone effectively told him to behave himself; the last time he'd heard that, it had been his wedding day.


"I will treat Lei with the same empathy and respect I harbor for all of my students," he promised. "I give you my word."

Lucy's eyebrows knit together in clear cut confusion when he spoke. She had to wonder if it sounded like she really cared about this Lei dude. Well, she did know he was a little rapey and a little queero. Not just a rapey queero, but a rapey queero who was doing a teacher. Geez, how often did you hear all that shit in a sentence together? Lucy opened her mouth to mention it but she stopped herself. "Uhh, cool." She replied. She took a step out but stopped again, because somehow she was a little concerned, or maybe even irked by the statement. It didn't sit right with her.

"But... Just don't treat me with the same empathy and respect. I'm not keen dude, sorry." And with that she bailed hard, slipping through the small crack in the door and leaving her hand there for a moment to wave goodbye.

Did he just have a crack at her? What the fuck?

Somewhat confused by the turn of events (as it was clearly a case of two people have different conversations at the same time), Vincent simply waved back as Lucy left the room. He wasn't entirely sure what just happened, though he had the feeling that there was another misunderstanding going on somewhere in their talk.


Well, he supposed that it didn't really matter. The girl had promised her discretion, and it was all he could really ask for. So, turning back to his papers, he pushed the subject out of his mind. It wasn't as if the other night was going to cause any major concern within the school anyway. He'd just talk to Sean as well when he got the chance to clear the matter up entirely.
