General Appearance: Overall, Sayuri is a very bright, colorful person in general. Her hair changes on a daily basis – from brown to black to blonde, or with red, white, or purple highlights, she constantly dyes it to keep from getting bored with her appearance. And then of course the styling varies as well – sometimes down and flat, other times gelled up high into a short mohawk, and anything and everything in between. She loves to play with her features as well – with almond-shaped brown eyes, a flat, short nose, and perky, playful lips, she has fun playing with makeup to accentuate her look. Bright colors are a must – she nearly always has some sort of neon eyeliner or eyeshadow or lipstick on, along with bold lashes and perfectly sculpted brows. Her ability helps immensely with toying with her appearance, and she spends a lot of time working on both herself and others who are interested. Without makeup or done-up hair, she is rather androgynous in appearance, and isn’t unused to being mistaken for a boy.
Her figure is a bit boyish, without any really defining curves or other assets to promote her femininity. She has an average height at 5’4”, and weighs approximately 130 lbs. She’s a bit on the stocky side, but most of it is muscle from working out and adventuring around outside. Her skin is a nice light tawny color, and is generally flawless apart from the occasional pimple or scar. She also has two faded spots on the outside of her right ankle from a snake bite she sustained when she was ten. Sayuri also experiences a bit of swelling in the same ankle, which she assumes is a long-lasting symptom from the neurotoxins from the bite.
Sayi’s clothes are typically as bright as her makeup. Bold colors and fun patterns are her favorite, and she mixes and matches all sorts of combinations to fit how she feels. She will never be seen in a simple, bland pair of jeans and a typical t-shirt – many of her otherwise boring clothes are decorated herself by hand, with paint or markers or other materials. Sayuri definitely has a strong appearance, which matches her equally as fiery personality.
Personality: Sayi has an interesting combination of hobbies. While she is quite girly at heart and enjoys shopping, doing makeovers, and giggling over boys (and girls), she also has a passion for the outdoors. Hiking, falconry, rock climbing, geocaching, fishing… You name an outdoor activity, and she’s likely to have at least tried it. She considers herself a passionate naturalist, and has a plan to study both biology and cosmetics when she’s finished with high school. Her dream occupation would be as a professional makeup artist with her own line of eco-friendly cosmetics to use on her clients.
Hobbies aside, she is a very outgoing, bubbly person, and lives to be in the spotlight. She loves going to or throwing parties, and isn’t afraid to hit the dance floor or sing her heart out with a group of friends or strangers. She’s a natural flirt, and will do so with both boys and girls of any shape, size, or color. Sayi does have a tendency to be loud, even in inappropriate situations, and has had her share of trouble for being such. However, her confidence never lets her down, and she can come across as arrogant quite often. She tends to be a perfectionist as well.
Sayuri is also a very optimistic person, and likes to look at every situation with a positive attitude. However, Sayi also has a quick temper, and when something doesn’t go her way, she can change from bubbly and happy to frustrated and moody in the blink of an eye. This unpredictable behavior can throw people off, and she has lost some friendships due to this sort of nature. However, she does her best to brush it all off and just move on.
She hates being cooped up inside for long periods of time, and actually will have mild panic attacks if she knows she has to be in one place for an extended period of time. Long car rides are her worst nightmare.
Spending the majority of her life in Japan, she does still have the occasional difficulty with American culture, but has embraced it to the best of her ability. Her mother tongue is, of course, Japanese, but she speaks English quite well; she also has an interest in languages in general, and dabbles in Chinese and Korean, as well as a bit of French just for the fun of it. She absolutely loves the American tradition of shooting off fireworks for the Fourth of July and New Year’s Eve. American food took some adjusting to, but she has also grown to love that part of the culture over time. She still has strong roots in her own culture, though, and enjoys spending time with people who she can speak to in her first language with.

History
Sayuri was born in the city of Fukui, Japan, approximately sixteen years ago. Her brother, Satoshi, had come into the family two years previously, and their parents were happy with the two children they were given. Sayuri’s family had a history of moderate wealth, and so she grew up well-fed and educated, with privileges that not all of her peers experienced. She grew a love for dress-up games and makeovers from a young age, and was spoiled with new clothes and beauty products on a somewhat regular basis.
However, she was also exposed to the natural world through her brother. He made their parents take them out of town as often as they could manage, and he would always scrounge around for any sort of creatures he could find, snakes and lizards and birds and insects and whatever else lived in the area. Sayuri was skeptical about this at first, but once she realized just how fascinating it all was, the young girl grew a love for the outdoors as well. She found reptiles and amphibians especially interesting, much to her parents’ dismay, because they held onto the belief that girls should be interested in much more stereotypical feminine hobbies. That didn’t stop the stubborn little girl, though, and she often snuck out on her own to go exploring.
When she was ten, though, something unexpected and terrible happened. She had managed to escape the stuffy prison of her house and get away from the bustling town to a small area of wilderness where she often went exploring. Not knowing what hid in the brush, she eagerly tromped through the woods, until a sudden sharp, agonizing pain laced up her calf and made her scream. Looking down, she saw a large snake latched onto her ankle, and immediately recognized it as a venomous mamushi. Thinking fast, she managed to get away from the area and stumble back to the streets, where she stammered an explanation to a passerby and was quickly picked up by an ambulance. Fortunately, the antidote for a mamushi bite was available, and though the process was painful and she spent several days in the hospital afterwards, she was released without further complications. Her parents were furious, of course, and forbid her to go outside on her own again.
A few months later, the opportunity arose for their family to move to the United States due to work, and they packed up and moved to Virginia, which was hard on both Sayuri and her brother. Fortunately, she had learned decent English in school, and managed to get by alright. She did her best to adjust to the new culture, and by the next year had embraced it rather well, enjoying the differences between her birth nation and America. They still visited home often, which was great.
Her brother’s abilities manifested when she was twelve, only a short time after they had moved. It took a while for the family to decide whether he should attend the meta-school in Japan or America, and they eventually settled on Hammel. Their grandparents on their fathers side had been meta-humans, so it hadn’t come as a huge surprise, but it was still hard for Sayuri to see him go.
At the age of fourteen, her own abilities manifested. While she was getting ready for school one morning, trying to decide what color of lipstick to put on, she was thoughtfully rubbing her thumb against her lower lip when suddenly a pop of bright red color stained her lips wherever she ran her thumb. Bewildered, she pressed her fingers against the countertop as she leaned in to get a closer look, and when she lifted her hands again, she found that wherever her fingers had been touching, different colors of different textures had smeared onto the surface – black, ink gel from her right index finger, a sticky pink gloss from her opposite thumb, and the like. So she went to her parents, they determined her abilities had probably manifested, and everything went as it normally did – the recruiter came a few days later, and she was whisked off to Hammel.
She has been at Hammel for almost two years now. It took a while for her to come out of her shell, but when she did, she became the loud, cheerful, outgoing girl she is today. She has made many friends, miffed some others, gotten in trouble with her teachers, and goes on adventures as often as she can.
