My Sullen Load is Full (Savvy)

Katy was lain on her bed. It was a Monday morning. Well, it was still dark outside, so Katy didn't really count it as morning. She rolled over and looked at her clock. It was only 5:00 AM... She still had two or three hours till school and there was no way she was getting back to sleep now. The eighteen-year-old could feel her mood beginning to drop, as per usual, and it was an effort just to get out of bed.

Katy was wearing a loose pajama top and shorts. She looked around her cluttered room. She would get round to cleaning it one day, just not this day. Not when she had so little energy. On her bedside table was her little box of pills. Popping one out of its little case, she put it on the back of her tongue and forced herself to swallow quickly. Eurgh. Katy didn't like taking pills. She didn't like anything when she was like this.

A sudden chirping caught Katy's attention. Usually that sound would make her smile. Not today.
"Shut up, Albert." She said, but with no real feeling. She wasn't even that annoyed by him. She didn't get annoyed when she was like this. When Albert kept chirping, though, Katy was a little more interested. He wasn't usually this indignant with his chirping. Then, suddenly, a small chipmunk ran out of her small pile of dirty laundry.

Savvy.

Eri was not a fan of birds. Probably because he'd lost half his tail to one before he'd ever met Savvy. So when he'd heard the chirp of a bird from inside his cozy burrow of fabric, he'd made a run for it. Unfortunately, the door he'd come through was closed, and the crack wasn't big enough, so he ended up chattering for help.

More unfortunately, Savvy was not yet awake to hear his pleas, and her room was too far away for his mental cries to reach her.

So, the poor thing just scratched his little hands against the bottom of the door, prepared to dig underneath if he had to.

Maybe Katy should have been annoyed, but she didn't feel it. Instead, she rolled her eyes and, shushing her canary, went on her hands and knees next to Eri, Savvy's chipmunk. She cooed softly, then quickly scooped the small rodent up in both hands, stroking it softly with her thumbs. She carefully opened her door, making sure not to make a sound, and crept downstairs, to Savvy's room.

The light knock and whisper Katy gave Savvy were probably pointless (the younger girl would most likely he woken by her pet's thoughts or something, but she did them anyway.
"Savvy, I have your little pet here. He was hiding in my dirty laundry."

It took Eri a moment to recognize that, no, that was not a giant bird with the wings. It was Savvy's family, so it was okay. As they neared her room, he fidgeted in Katy's hand, but was polite and didn't try to jump out. He could tell Savvy was asleep.

Savvy, meanwhile, was having lovely dreams about carrots (no idea why, she wasn't usually a huge fan of carrots, but that was dreams for ya, they never seemed to make sense). She wasn't entirely sure what was going on, but it was good. I think. It seemed to be positive in mood. And then all of a sudden she was waking up. She blinked several times, not sure if she was awake or asleep, trying to hold on to those last few moments of the dream, but then it was gone and she was sure she was awake because she could see Katy outlined by the light in the hallway.

It took her another second to determine what Katy had said, but Eri's squeaking clarified the situation for her.

Sorry, it was a good burrow and then birds.

Right. Albert. Eri had never really been a fan.

"C'mere, Eri, you can burrow in here with me," she lifted her heavy comforter from where it was tangled all around her, letting out a yawn as the chipmunk leapt out of Katy's hands and scurried up the pile of magazines next to Savvy's bed to dive under her blanket. Turning her sleepy gaze to Katy, Savvy yawned again as she spoke, unable to help herself. "Th- -anks, Katy," she murmured, and sat up a bit, unsure if she was supposed to be awake for school or something. "What time is it?"

Katy was glad Eri has lept out of her hands, he had been squirming more and more as they had approached Savvy's room. Seeing Savvy's obviously tired face and seeing her yawn set Katy off yawning too. She was so tired... Maybe she should go see Aurora about sleeping habits. Maybe she could help. Although Katy didn't really fancy the idea of having another chemical helping her: the stuff Rory used might react horribly with the drugs Katy all ready took. Also, there was the whole part of relying on drugs to support her. Katy really didn't want to.

When Savvy sat up, Katy took a step into the room.
"It's five o'clock in the morning. You need to go back to sleep. The only reason I'm awake is because I can't go back to sleep after midnight." An attempt at lightening the mood in her heart. It didn't work.

Savvy blinked a few times, trying to get her eyesight less blurry and more focused. The heavy wave of sleep was receding now, and she'd find it hard to sleep with the chattering of her people starting to filter in from outside. With a heavy sigh, she looked back to Katy. "I didn't know that about you." She didn't share things with Katy much - she was kind of scared of her extreme moods, to be honest. But Katy wasn't bouncing off the walls or sulking, so maybe early morning was the best time to talk with her. It's not like Savvy had anything better to do for the next few hours.
