A bit of a mix up (Adam)

It had been a pretty ordinary Saturday for Charlie. He had slept in until 10 am, then forced himself out of bed for scrambled egg and a cappuccino. He had to be at the House by 8 pm for his new job, so he had a good 8 hours before he had to set off to get there. He also had a bunch of assignments to do for University, so he made a start with one of those at the kitchen counter, still in his pyjamas. By the time 6 pm came round, Charlie had got a tiny proportion done, which was actually quite impressive, and he was dressed, which was an added bonus. Slipping on his coat and grabbing his phone, keys, wallet, things like that, he left the apartment.

It was a long way to walk, but it wasn't too cold outside so Charlie walked. He was still a few blocks away from La Maison Magnifique and his watch said 19:30, so Charlie decided to quicken his pace slightly. He wasn't really paying attention to his surroundings and he wasn't exactly concentrating on keeping in control of his power. A postman infront of him dropped a package onto the doorstep of an apartment block on that street. As he was doing so he dropped a nickel that must have been in his pocket. Charlie approached saw the nickel and smiled, bending over to pick it up. He was surprised when he kept getting closer to the coin without actually bending further. He tried to pull back up, but it wouldn't work. He was now almost on the same level as the nickel, and looked to his right (he wasn't sure how sight really worked when he was an object, but it did and he didn't question it). Sure enough, the original package was sitting there, the same size as Charlie. He tried to shift back. It didn't work.

So, Adam, by way of a recent job he landed from his dear good friend Kota, finally met his mark to present himself with a present for the holidays. Adam himself wasn't a religious person, but Adam was also a clueless hypocrite and beside, what was wrong with enjoying in the merries and the hollies just for the hell of it? And there was nothing wrong with buying your own bass drum, the one you been spying with your eyeing, shipping it to your own apartment, and the reading the card that says "from Mom" just to make yourself feel better.

So of course when Adam came bag to the brand new digs, his eyes went wide and white as saucers to see the giant…packages? sitting in front of the doorway…

Two packages? Two large packages? They looked mighty identical. He inspected one. It was clearly addressed to him. He inspected the other. It had no label. At all. Did that mean it was his? Maybe Lani had something delivered too? But no label, no address.

It was probably a bomb. Yep, totally a bomb and if he picked it up it was going to explode on him, Adam saw it happen all the time in movies. Probably lined with anthrax too.

With a shrug, Adam grabbed the first box and brought it inside without hesitation, settling it onto the floor of the living room. "Oy, Lani, you expecting a package or something?" There was no answer. Guy must be out again. Adam sighed and shrugged again. He went back outside and slowly carried the heavier box inside, grumbling about how that sneak best be happy that Adam didn't leave it outside to be stolen or anything. He set it down next to the other one.

Well….was it even Lani's? There was still no freaking label. Maybe there was one inside? Another shrug and Adam popped out his knife and started to cut the tape on the unlabeled box.

Charlie just sat there, watching as the snow fell on his cardboard skin. He shivered, or he would have if he could. He had been stuck as an object countless times, the worst being the pencil in Ms. Seccombe's classroom. As you can probably guess, she wasn't exactly pleased when a naked 16-year-old boy suddenly appeared, lying straight as a pencil on a desk. Trust me though, it was worse for Charlie. Being chewed isn't a pleasant experience. Anyway, the times he had been stuck all seemed to be decided by someone else; Charlie had no control over the episodes. They could last up to 12 hours (an all time record, albeit not one to be particularly proud of) or they could only happen for a minute or two. He had no idea when they would trigger, but he figured it was something to do with stress. So, basically, Charlie was out here, freezing his boxy butt off indefinitely.

When the guy came outside to collect Charlie, the object mimic was glad. No more freezing cold winter outdoors, no more snow falling on his head. Then he thought about what would happen if he shifted back now. Or what it he didn't?! His clothes were still outside, so he'd risk people seeing him if he did shift, (although it was dark outside, thank god) but if he didn't shift very soon the guy was going to open his box. He didn't just feel heat (or lack thereof) when he was shifted, he had access to all of his senses and feelings, including pain. A knife or scissors or even just a letter opener would be like getting a finger cut off or getting a great big scratch on his leg. Much to Charlie's horror, the guy was, sure enough, about to open his box. Maybe if stress triggered his powers once, they would trigger them again. Charlie seriously hoped so.

Suddenly, a blinding pain filled Charlie's senses. He screamed and cursed, a loud "SHIT!" echoing through the apartment. Wait, what? He couldn't speak when he was shifted, right? Opening his squeezed shut eyes a crack, he looked down at himself. Apart from the lack of clothes and great big gash in his leg, he was back to normal. Laughing slightly, more in hysteria than amusement. Looking down, he realised the knife was still in his leg. As long as he didn't move, it shouldn't bleed too much, right? He had no idea.

Ok, shit, now this was a big surprise and one he was not expecting. No, what Adam was expecting was to open this little ol' cardboard box up and find a packing slip or something to tell Adam to whom this thing was for. If not that, then he was expecting a hot chick to come bursting out in a dress made of foam packing peanuts or maybe a bomb that he armed by opening and had only 30 seconds to disarm by cutting the red or blue wire and never the black and white stripy one. Heck, if Adam was lucky, it was just going to be a hate package full of dead rats or something.

But noooooooo….

Before his very eyes(and in a way that was too unbelievable for Adam to even describe), the box turned into a man, a freaking man!! A butt-stark naked man!!

And ohh, hell if that didn't have Adam screaming and clawing at the wall behind him like a little girl like he was trying to climb up it or through it or something.

Of course it took him a second to calm down. He'd had his fair share of surprises in his life, this certainly wasn't the first time something unexpected turned into a naked man in front of him without warning, but that did not make it any less willie-inducing. In fact, he could feel the bastards crawling up and down his arms and legs right now! "Ooooh, fucking doodle-snaps….!" he uttered in a shaken, uber vibrato-ed voice. "P-p-people need to freaking warn people when they're gonna pull that shit!" He pointed a finger accusingly and unsympathetically at the naked man with the knife still in his leg.
