Time Warp: Back to the Start

Fuck, this place was weird.

Sawyer rotated her shoulder as she walked down the halls, wondering how the hell everyone operated in this shithole. Just five minutes ago, she saw a snake wrap itself around a badger and then both of them turned into two very naked boys who ran in opposite directions covering their junk. One had slammed into her pretty hard.

She had only been here two days and already she wished her dad would bail her out. Which was actually a big deal especially since she hated her dad for letting that recruiter take her in the first place. Among other things.

Entering a class room she thought she was supposed to be in, Sawyer was surprised to find someone else there. Someone pretty bangable-looking too. It was pretty damn early. She had wanted to put a welcoming gift on the teacher's chair on her first day but now that someone else was there, she pouted a little and dropped on to the seat. "The hell are you doing here so early though?" She finally broke the silence as she lifted both her feet and settled them on her desk, her dirty and scuffed high tops in plain view.

Getting up early was still a freaking nightmare. Classes here started a hell of a lot earlier than they had back home - Lucy wouldn't even be awake in time to catch the first one if she'd kept the usual routine.

Even though it was warm, or supposed to be, Lucy was still feeling the cold. Not enough to warrant a jacket or anything, which was a good sign. She wore a lot less ink - the lion on her forearm and the newly furbished sword on the other side were all she carried at this point. At least, that's all she had visibly. At any rate, the Australian was leaning forward over a desk, busy scratching away at the surface with the pen in her hand.

Sitting in the back row, the slightly less tatted up meta didn't bother to look as someone else walked in. Not right away. Not until they spoke to her.

"Oh y'know, I'm dying for the best fucking seat in the joint." Lucy retorted, furrowing her eyebrows at the girl who questioned her so abruptly. "Couldn't sleep last night I was so bloody stressed about it." Sarcasm interlaced through her words as thickly as her accent, and she snerked a laugh as she leaned back in her seat. "Same for you, yeah?"

The response she got made Sawyer snort and turn. The accent made the words a little indecipherable but the message was clear. Sarcasm was a language she completely understood.

"Oh totes, obvs." She responded with a roll of her eyes. "I mean, clearly I'm going for Student of the Year right here."

She turned back to the front and pondered over whether she should let the other girl in on her plan to sabotage the teacher's chair. And after a brief two seconds of thinking, she figured, if the girl wanted to rat her out, all the better. Then she would get detention. Detention was where she could possibly meet other like-minded people.

"You a narc, Oz?"

"Stiff competition, aye?" Lucy grinned at the fact. It was pretty clear that this girl had an agenda. Student of the year, though? That was definitely a good one.

Silence fell between them and Lucy didn't seem affected by it, she just turned her attention towards the desk space in front of her, the pen in her hand working to draw broad, curling strokes across the surface. It was something of a small mission of hers - to deface every desk surface. And she had to do something to keep her awake long enough to actually want to stay in class. Ditching was already looking pretty tempting, and the day had only just begun.

When the other girls poke again, Lucy offered a snarky breath of laughter as a reply. "Do I look like I give a fuck what you do?" She asked, the amused touches of her laugh tucking into her tone of voice.

"Stiff other things but sure, competition sounds good." Sawyer responded with a casual shrug before leaning back on her chair.

Like the tatted up meta, Sawyer was also considering ditching but not before she cemented the idea that she always had something up her sleeves. No use cruising through high school without making a name for herself, was there? And if she could bring back her title of troublemaker from her days at that lesbian hangout they called single sex boarding school, who was she to stand in her own way?

When the seemingly taller brunette responded, Sawyer threw her head back and laughed. "Fuck if I know, that's why I'm asking, ya ass." She spoke up before shrugging and jumping out of her seat to walk over to the teacher's chair.

Rummaging through her bag, she took out the hand drill and a box of nails before climbing on top of the locker the teacher kept all her teaching supplies and reached down to grab the chair. Her gymnastics background allowed her the upper body strength to do just this.

It looked damn complicated and she should have asked the other girl to help but she wanted to do it alone so with one leg, she hoisted the chair up and started to drill the chair right at the top of the locker.

Once that was done, Sawyer jumped down and landed with her knees bent. She kept her drill in her bag and walked back to her seat. "That's not too much, is it Tats?"

Shaking her head, Lucy couldn't help but laugh at the response as she turned her attention away. This chick was crazy.

"If I did, I reckon you'd know by now." Lucy replied, glancing up again as she noticed this girl was on the move. To the teacher's chair, no less. The Australian twisted the pen in her hand as she moved to rest her chin in her palm, observing intently.

The first thing she noticed was what she whipped out of that bag; "You brought a bloody drill to class." She denoted, exhaling a small, significant chuckle. And of all things, she decided to pick the damn chair up and evidently, drill it into place above a locker. Crazy. Stone called fucking mental, this one.

"Well, shit. For a second I thought you were just gonna drill every bloody thing on the desk to the desk." She admitted, raising an eyebrow in her direction. "I guess y'get points for originality."

"You make a fair point, Oz." She pointed out as she walked over to the teacher's desk.

The Australian's astute remark had Sawyer wriggling her eyebrows in response. "Hey, when I go, I go all out. No half-assing anything, man." She pointed the drill at the fellow meta and switched it on.

The idea the other meta presented had the voice mimic scratching her chin before her lips curved downwards thoughtfully. "That's an idea." She remarked before shaking her head. "Maybe next time." She added as another student walked in. Upon seeing the chair, they did a double take before turning to her and then the Australian before shaking their head and sitting down in front.

Sawyer turned to the other brunette and grinned. "Sawyer Lynn by the way. You got a name, Oz?"

Lucy laughed at her response about not opting to half-ass around a project. Drill and all. Lucy had to wonder if she borrowed that beauty from the school itself. Why else would a chick carry a drill around school?

"Next time, bring more nails." She added with a small shrug. Being prepared and all that. She allowed her eyes to stray from her work momentarily to look at the person who looked back at her. A newcomer, too. She lowered her eyebrows and made a point of grinning to herself before looking away, like she'd seen something funny.

She only looked around again when someone was talking to her. Nicknames weren't all that strange, especially the one she chose. Considering most Australians went to Kocher, she figured she was a rarity. "Lucy," She replied, stretching her shoulders back with a sigh. "Serrano."

Tilting her head back at the other girl's response, Sawyer seemed to contemplate the idea before nodding in agreement. "Probably." She responded before moving from her place over to the seat beside the Australian.

The innocent bystander completely ignored, Sawyer offered her hand to...mm, Lucy. It wasn't the name Sawyer would have pegged her to have. But her last name was pretty perfect. That, she could get behind. And if she were being honest, it sounded pretty damn sexy coming from the Australian's mouth.

Blinking away that thought, she grinned at Lucy and nodded. "You new here, Serrano?" She asked.

"You're so good at nailing in classrooms." Lucy pointed out, eyebrows raised. A grin evident on her features as she tapped the desk she was working on. Because it was just way too easy.

Glancing at the hand extended to her, Lucy weighed her options briefly. It wasn't often that she wanted to take someone's hand. But she did anyway.

"Nah." Lucy replied, though she pursed her lips at the question. Because it really did depend on how someone defined new. Some people were stuck here for years on end, as early as twelve years old. She was far from that. "Over half a year." She added, glancing away. It wasn't embarrassing, but it was rare for someone to be sixteen when something like this happened. "You?"

"You would know." Sawyer raised an eyebrow suggestively, convinced that she had probably found her soulmate.

Sawyer saw the hesitation and didn't fault the tatted up meta for not taking it. It was always good to be cautious of a trickster.

Scrunching her nose up at the answer, Sawyer briefly wondered if she would stay that long. She hoped not. She wanted to leave as soon as she could. "Just got in like...couple days ago." Sawyer scratched her forehead lightly. "Ain't plannin' on staying too long." She admitted. "Do you have any exit strategies?"

Lucy herself was cringing at the notion of how long she'd been at Hammel. She was supposed to graduate within a year. Had this never happened, she would have. And it would have been boring. But at least she wouldn't have been forced to move to a different country.

"I don't reckon you get a choice." She pointed out. If she had a choice she wouldn't honestly be there at all. Lucy rolled her eyed at the thought.

Grinning, Lucy waved her pen towards the door. "That hole in the bloody wall?" She asked, eyeing her newfound counterpart with intrigue; "You bailing?"

Sighing at the point the other girl made, Sawyer scratched the back of her neck at the phantom itch. "Guess it's better than what I got at home." She scrunched her nose up and nodded with a smirk at another newcomer.

"Dunno. Figured I should but I dunno." She paused and turned to face Lucy with a raised eyebrow and a contained smirk. "You wanna ditch? Before we got too many witnesses?" Sawyer asked, seriously contemplating on bailing.

It wasn't too far away to the door and she was pretty sure neither of the newcomers had committed their faces to memory.
