Backdated to April 14
"Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down, the medicine go do~own, medicine go down," Oriel mumbled out the lyrics at about an octave lower than it's traditional key as he whipped up the giant bowl of cake batter with the stainless steel whisk. His birthday was in a week but...that's not what this was for. Nope, April was the month of birthdays. Really, everyone seemed to be having one. Oriel, Tak, even that yodeling turkey, Gryph. Phoenix said he'd gotten something for his dimply friend, and well...Oriel was sure that Kodi also had that guy covered, and, besides the fact that Oriel just didn't give a shit, Oriel decided to do nothing for the bird-brain. Oriel and Phoenix had their own plans for his own birthday next week, so he wasn't going to waste baking a cake for himself. Because that was just pathetic. But Tak was fair game and he needed an excuse to implement this idea he'd had for her ever since the young woman came back after her pregnancy ordeal.
So today was a baking day. While he prepped the cake and got the design figured out, he may as well also toss some cookies in there as well. They were cooling on the steel racks on the table. The rest of the counter space was practically covered in flour which he only wished was from the remains of his flour baby, as that project had finally come to an end, and in other various baking utensils and supplies and ingredients, including a carton of used eggs. It was such a mess in there, but that was A-ok for Oriel had his trusty apron to keep his own clothes from being completely doused in the spoils of baking as well. Oriel thought he looked quite good in it.
Oriel was also pleased at the progress he'd been making on this baking project. The square base of the cake was done, he just had to finish it off with a couple of well placed mounds and then frost it before declaring it a masterpiece. "In the most delightful wa~y," he muttered as he set the mixing bowl aside and spun to snatch the oven mitt from the counter the instant the oven timer dinged. Carefully - after all, he didn't want to burn himself - Oriel retrieved yet another tray of chocolate chip cookies from the super-heated oven and set them upon the stove. Yum.
