It was early evening in Pilot Ridge, the sun was set to go down over the next hour or so, and Anthony was feeling excited for this home date he was about to have with his beloved girlfriend Kailin. With the whole city pretty much shut down, there wasn't much they could do together other than stay at her house or in the dorms, so the idea came up to make it a little special and just hang out together in the backyard treehouse of the Bishop home. Which was just perfectly fine with Anthony, as long as they got to spend time together.

Anthony carried a sack with various items - candles, matches, water, food, drinks, portable dvd player - as he climbed up the rope ladder into the very solidly made treehouse. He'd been here before, but he hadn't been here before with Kailin as his girlfriend so...that somehow made it seem even more special. He was determined to make this a special evening, even without all the fancy stuff they could be doing.

The place was surprisingly roomy for a treehouse. Anthony wondered how many times they'd fixed it, annexed it, improved on it over the years. He'd heard that they brought it all the way from their former home and had it rebuilt here. Anthony couldn't imagine how much effort that must've been.

Anthony sat his bum on the wood floor, letting his feet hang down through the floor entrance and slid the napsack into the wall across the small room. Then he signaled down to Kailin. "Okay, toss them up!" he called down, referring to the blanket and pillows they'd also carted out.

It had been a few days into this city wide blackout, and Kailin wasn't too happy with the lack of electricity. They had a backup generator, but with the amount of energy needed to power their house, they only left it on for the hours of 7 to 10 pm every night so everyone could have a hot shower and have light in the dark, but after that? Lights out. It wasn't the easiest for her to deal with, but at least Kaailin wasn't alone. She had Lany to keep her company.

But tonight, the blonde had other company and plans for that night, and that company being Tony. Kales watched as her boyfriend ascended the wooden ladder to her childhood sanctuary that resided in the large oak tree in the backyard of her home. It wasn't the first time they had been up there together, but the first time they were up there as a couple. Really, there was no difference between the way pre-relationship Kailin treated Anthony and the way the post-relationship Kailin treated Anthony, except the obvious kissing aspect of things. She really enjoyed the kissing aspect.

"Kay!" Kailin threw a pillow up to him to test her arm, and when he caught it, she threw the other, and then for the blanket, she decided to climb up more before handing it off to him. Luckily it was a large enough blanket for them to both fit under, but even if it weren't, it'd be more of an excuse to move closer to her adorably dorky and very built boyfriend.

God, she loved referring to him as her boyfriend.

She quickly pulled herself up after the blanket was removed from her hands, and she lied down dramatically on the wooden floor of the tree house when she settled herself. "We made it," Kales laughed, leaning her head back slightly against the wood to look at Tony, "Alone at last."

Kailin’s family was lucky to have that backup generator. At the school, the best they had were a few generators…well, some of the electrokinetics were out doing what they could, some of the pyros and light manipulators were being used as lamps. Anthony didn’t have anything useful for that, just some money and a trip to the Wal-Mart to see if they had any more flashlights and those snap-lights or whatever they were called. He needed them, since the light on his keychain went out the night before.

Oh, that night before, Anthony should probably wipe that from his memory. No, he totally did not touch a naked woman’s boobs, it didn’t even count since it’d been so dark and he couldn’t even see them, but that was besides the point because the only boobs that Anthony wanted to see and touch were Kailin’s!!

Not that they were anywhere near that far in their relationship yet.

Relationship….that made him just want to squee with giddiness. Because it was with Kailin!

Anthony mentally shook the memory away and instead focused on that perfect little woman that was chucking the fluffy pillows up to him. He tossed them both to the side, then put himself on stand-by as Kailin ascended the ladder, taking the blanket from her and setting it aside, then offering a hand to help her pull herself all the way inside.

He laughed at her histrionics. “What? Was the climb really that hard on you?” he cooed, lying down on his stomach next to her and then planting a quick kiss on her lips. “I like being alone with you?” Uh…did that sound right? That totally sounded like he was expecting something more, didn’t it. He tried to laugh it off.

She shifted the minute his lips found hers, turning onto her side and pressing to let the kiss linger a bit longer. "Oh it took everything. Three flights of stairs a day couldn't begin to train for such a work out." Kailin grinned, finally deciding to sit up.

The tree house hadn't really been touched much since the last time she was up there a few months ago.The boy's games were still scattered in the corner by the chest, and Kailin's numerous toy bears and plushies she had accumulated over the years sat neatly on a dusty shelf in the separated room. Kales felt the memories pressing up to the surface of her mind as her eyes continued to scan the area.

And then her eyes landed on Anthony once more.

Anthony, with his dimpled smile and bright chocolate orbs staring back at her. It just made her want to kiss him again, but she refrained. There would be plenty of that later, anyway.

"Well, we should get everything set up, yeah?"

“Exactly,” he teased with a cocky grin. “You have to go up five flights everyday to get as strong as me.” Like at the dorms. It was such a shame that the boy’s dorm was all the way up on the 5th floor. He could probably be a pussy and take the elevator, but nah! A real man took the stairs! Rawr!

Anthony retreated as she let herself up, propping himself to his knees and just being overly gleeful. When she gave the word, Anthony snapped his eyes up, brightening them up like stars, and he immediately started shuffling around with the pillows and blankets. Then he grabbed the bag and started unloading it.

“Here,” he said as he handed Kailin a couple of the lights to set up around the small structure. Anthony took a couple more and set them out himself. “So…what movie are we watching?” he asked. Anthony had let Kailin pick it tonight.

"Oh, I forgot what a man you are. I'm swooning," Kailin rolled her eyes, shoving him playfully before searching through the movies she had brought up. Kales had the wonderful pleasure of picking a movie for the two of them to watch, and she managed to narrow it down to three animated movies: How To Train Your Dragon, Tangled, and Rise Of The Guardians.

If she truly got to watch what she really wanted to watch, she would have chosen Tangled because, come on, it's Tangled! But Anthony was here, and so she didn't want to force him to watch that. Okay, narrowed it down to two, then. Eenie...Meenie...Miney...

How To Train Your Dragon.

"DreamWorks perfection is what we're watching," Kailin said, scooting over to the small portable dvd player and popping the disk in. They had a battery operated screen, no bigger than 18 inches, but it was far bigger than the screen that the dvd player offered, and the boys had the cables to set up the portable to the larger television already up here!

"Just let me... set this up quickly..." Kailin said as she was shifting the cables from the game consul to the dvd player. "There. Okay, we're good." Kales turned the TV on, smiling at her handiwork.

The main menu was up for the movie, and she turned back to Anthony with a triumphant grin. "Tada! How To Train Your Dragon is up and running on a larger screen, effectively allowing me to now watch the TV and lay with you comfortably."

Pressing play, Kales wasted no time moving back to Anthony's side. "Let this wonderful night begin."

“Oh, I’ll bet you are,” Anthony shot back as she pushed him back. “Who wouldn’t over this perfect piece of awesome right here?” Anthony flexed up his bicep and gave it a kiss. “That’s manly stuff, right there.” He continued to back away, lest she throw something at him.

This was already shaping up to be a great night.

Anthony rose an eyebrow at her announcement. Dreamworks? So…a cartoon? Okay, he could work with that, 3D animation was cool. Some of the stuff they came up with was pretty darn entertaining, though Anthony hadn’t really watched any of it since he left home, and it was his little brother who wanted to. He finished setting up the lights while she set up the DVD player and screen.

They finished at about the same time and Anthony helped himself to a seat right next to his beautiful girlfriend. “‘How To Train Your Dragon’? And here I thought you were going to go with something like…” He shrugged, trying to think of what animated films he really remembered. “‘Brave’.” That was the first thing he could come up with. “Or ‘Frozen’.” Frozen was pretty good, though, he had to admit that.

Anthony pulled the blanket over their legs and looked up to the screen. “….did you ever notice how Toothless looks like a cat?” he asked.

"Tangled," Kailin interjected, slipping the blanket up to uncover a single foot; she wasn't content or comfortable unless she had a single foot on the outside, and the other on the inside. It made for some very interesting sleeping arrangements at times. "I was going to watch Tangled, but I figured that was too predictable and girly. How To Train Your Dragon was something that sort of met in the middle."

The blonde watched the introductory scene with mild interest, her eyes occasionally straying from the screen to the window, and then to Tony. How many times have they done this same thing, over and over, and suddenly it felt so different now? Kales knew that relationships changed things, but she wondered, after everything was said and done, would this potentially ruin what they once had? She didn't know.

"Eh?" Kailin said, her tone slurring with distance. "Oh, Toothless always reminded me of a cat, from the minute I saw his eyes." The dragon moved like a cat, carefully and deliberately, and held himself much like a cat did. The first time she saw him, she had asked the same question.

"It's exactly why I loved him."

“Or Tangled,” he repeated with a smile. “Though gotta say, for a disney princess movie, that one was pretty good.” Anthony would never reveal how much he liked that movie though. Hey! It was funny, and what was funny was, well, funny! He laid a hand on the shoulder of his girl in consolation. “You made the right choice.” Because dragons. And boys liked dragons, no matter what.

Speaking of boys, Anthony’s thoughts were, expectantly, moving in that direction. Prior to the their relationship, it would often go there, but now that they were officially official, the thoughts were a little more feasible than the mere unobtainable fantasies he’d had before. Though it might have been his encounter with that…person the night before which was turning him just a little more in that direction.

Because, come on! Kailin was a girl! A rather pretty one, with a pretty face, and pretty hair, and an absolutely stunning smile! And she was, as Anthony someone was thinking he was only just realizing, also just as much a woman as the one he’d met last night.

Calm down Anthony, that’s not what you came here for! Man up and watch the movie!

“If dragons were a real thing, I’d want one like that,” he agreed, shifting slightly to casually bring his arm around Kailin’s shoulders so they could rest more comfortably and not just awkwardly shoulder to shoulder. He gave her a kiss on the top of her beautiful blonde head.

"Why, so it could toss you around like he did Hiccup?" For some reason, the goofy personality her boyfriend wore almost reminded Kales of Hiccup, but only at certain moments. Of course, he wasn't some skinny kid who could barely do anything and got in the way, but just the way he acted seemed to match. The Bishop girl leaned against him while her eyes remained planted on the screen; after all, this was her favorite part!

Somehow her mind moved to Anthony's power when Hiccup raised the knife to Toothless, and words came from her mouth without her intending for them to, "You think you could plushie someone to death? Like, they literally can't handle all the cute so they just die?" Oh god, she did not just say that! In response to that realization, Kailin's cheeks went red, her body going tense, and a laugh overtook her. "I'm sorry about that, don't listen to me. I was just... that was an idiotic thing to ask."

But really, he's heard her say so much worse. Kailin might have been a very bright soul, intelligent and bubbly, but sometimes that bubbliness became outright ditzy, which sometimes caught people off guard. She doubted Anthony was affected anymore, but even still, those moments didn't fail to throw her off.

Her hand reached up, found his dangling hand that hung off her shoulder, and intertwined their fingers. "Thank you for coming, Tony. I've been so sick of this blackout."

“Hey, might be fun! It’ll be like a rodeo!” he said with a laugh. Anthony had some experience with a horse, so a dragon couldn’t be much different, right?

Anthony paused for a brief moment as he watched the scene before opening his mouth again to give commentary. “…How do they come up with these names?” he pondered out loud. “I mean, who names their kid “Hiccup”?” Was it supposed to be a pun on the boy’s character and his tendency for screwing up? If so, it was a little too obvious, not really all that creative.

Kailin did have her blonde moments, and honestly, those moments were sometimes the best, because her embarrassed face was just far too adorable to ignore. “Right, I’ll just bury them in a million plushies and they’ll just completely die of cuteness. That makes perfect sense! I mean, you can’t underestimate the power of cute.” He bumped her a slight just as a tease as he laughed over that image.

Anthony shrugged a shoulder. “Actually, I’ve though about instead of a bunch of little one…maybe just using one big one.” Hey, it was his power, of course he’d thought about this kind of thing. “I just…make the biggest plush I can right above someone’s head and let it fall. I could probably knock someone out like that.”

He held on to Kailin’s fingers once they touched his own and he smiled. “Yeah, me too. It’s insane back at the dorms, you know? I even walked into the wrong—“ Uh…what are you doing Anthony? You are not really going into this, right? “In the wrong room. When I was looking for Salem. That…that was embarrassing.” Anthony had no idea why he was talking about that. He turned his eyes back to the movie as he tried to forget that memory.

"Ha, Ha." Kailin wasn't bothered by all the teasing, mainly because she dished it out just as much, if not more, than Tony teased her. It was true, the girl had what could only be described as 'Blonde' moments, Kales wouldn't deny that. The Blonde removed her hand to adjust slightly, and instead her arms wrapped around his waist and her head nuzzled into the crook of his neck.

"I bet it would be awkward just randomly walking into someone's dorm randomly." Kales agreed, closing her eyes and breathing the familiar scent of her counterpart. Perks of having a boyfriend, the girl thought with a slight tip of her lips. What was he talking about? Oh yeah, he wanted to go to see Salem. Missed the room. Kailin actually started to think she should have extended Salem an invitation to come and join them, after all, since it had been a while since they have all hung out together. She missed her Charming.

She pulled away, only slightly, her hands still wrapped loosely around his waist, "So did you ever find him? Or did you just give up after the entire 'going into the wrong room' thing?" She was legitimately curious, since she hadn't really spoken to Salem in a while, too. God, she was a horrible friend, leaving her third half out like she had been.

Why had Anthony brought up this subject? Was he stupid or something? Stupidly honest. Well, he just had to, uh, be careful in what he said, he knew how to do this spur of the moment. Just like that time in the tattoo shop with that one kid and he pretended to be doing an interview for a paper. Anthony just ad-libbed the whole thing and everything turned out just fine, right?

Right.

“Yeah,” he said with a nod. “I mean, it can’t be any worse than showing up at the wrong house of a friend, right?” Anthony had done that when Kailin had first invited him to her house for a hang-out. He’d brought cous-cous and shoved it in the face of strangers he assumed to be Kailin’s parents or older brother and sister. Embarrassing, to say the least.

But still not as embarrassing or awkward as last night. “Uhmm….” Why were they still on this topic? Why was she asking? Right, Salem. Friend. “N-no, I didn’t. I kind of…tripped over some things and fell into some things, made a fool of myself and…ran back to my own room.” What a chicken he was making himself sound like, but it was better than looking like a shameless, cheating pervert. Honestly, he’d forgotten all about Salem after his close encounters experience.

Anthony tried to watch the movie. Anthony tried not to think about "them".

"Klutz," She scoffed, trying to lighten the mood some since she began to feel his body tense. Was it really that embarrassing? Or is he hiding something?, Kailin's subconscious said quietly, and the blonde immediately shoved the voice away, knowing it was just trying to ruin her night. Anthony could tell her anything, and he'd never have a reason to hide anything. She was sure of it.

But the conversation ended there, and so she just kept her eyes on the movie, and her mouth shut.

He had been awfully quiet for the rest of the movie, and even though she could accept peaceful silence, this was far from peaceful; it was tense. Kailin turned over, rested her chin on his chest, looked up at him, and reached up to run her hand through his hair. It was long enough she could run her fingers through, and she loved it when it was like that. He looked more like Anthony, she supposed. Goofy and lovable, to say the least.

"What's on your mind," She asked quietly, blue eyes searching his brown eyes for any indication that he didn't want to be there. "You've been really quiet."

Anthony was glad that Kailin didn’t pry into the matter further, then again, why would she, it wasn’t like Anthony had given her any reason to wonder, right? He told her the truth(or most of it) and that was pretty much the end of it. Anthony mentally breathed a sigh of relief and once again, tried to take his mind off the events of the night prior by watching a bunch of animated kids fly around on dragons.

Seriously, what kind of name was Hiccup anyway?

Though while Anthony had been trying to keep himself focused, his mind kept wandering and jumping from one thing to the next, last night being only one of many. His brother, his parents, graduation, entering college, the internship…and Kailin, of course. The girl who’d become nestled in his arms as if she always belonged there. Her movement did little to snap him from his thoughts, but her voice, Kailin’s sweet angelic voice, was more than enough to coax a smile from the ruminating boy.

Anthony shrugged. “Just thinking of some things,” he said, leaning down to give her a kiss upon her lovely blonde scalp. Anthony took a breath and let his eyes fall. “Graduation is just around the corner, you know?” A little over a month away, actually.
