SUE: Girly Talk and Stuffed Noses (AJ)

While Adaryn wasn't a very gossip and girly type of person, she did enjoy speaking to friends about what was going on in her life (well, that started a bit more recently but even still) and her closest friend aside from Monroe was AJ, or at least she'd like to think so. The girl was almost exactly the same person, just with a different eye color and complexion. But aside from that? Practically twins.

Hey. I finally got the day off, and i'm sniffling like crazy. You have any book recommendations that you think I might like? I think I'm going to binge.

Yup, that was definitely was what she was going to do so long as she would be able to focus. Lucky for her she only had some minor throat pain and the running nose, but she had a feeling that she should read as long as she could, because she might be out of business for a few days because of this.

It was June, and that meant school was winding down. It also meant working at the Book Nook and making sure she had everything done for her classes was stressful. Not to mention things with a certain brunette boy in plaid who had recently re-emerged back into her life. To top it all off, she was sick. It started out as the sniffles and now she felt even worse. Fatigued all the time.

She'd confined herself to her dorm room after her most recent shift, taking a long hot shower before putting on an oversized tshirt and crawling into bed, her wet curls splaying out against the pillow. She stared up at the ceiling and then her gaze averted to her cell phone, which had buzzed on her nightstand.

She rolled onto her side and grabbed it.

You're sick too? I swear, just when I start to feel better, it gets worse. It's June! Why do I have a cold? Anyway, that depends. Do you like classics?

She sent the text and glanced over at her bookshelf in the corner of her room.

AJ was sick, too? Well, that was wonderful (read: horrible) for the two, then, she supposed. But with oncoming sneeze attacks, her message was being delayed for a few minutes. Finally, after everything was said and done, and her head felt ready to explode from the inside out, the sniffling Empath rubbed her hands down with hand sanitizer and grabbed her phone.

Sorry, I think I just sneezed my brain right out of my skull. Classics are fine, I guess. But I really like YA more.

The phone was placed beside her head on her pillow as she laid down, and her finger tapped the screen in a random fashion, waiting for the buzz of the response.

AJ waited for the reply, closing her eyes for a moment as she waited for the vibration of her phone on her stomach, where it idylly sat. Her head was pounding from how congested she was and while she wanted to curl up with a good book as well, she wasn't so sure her head could stand it, to take in the words.

When the reply came, she opened her eyes groggily to look at the message. It's okay. Just be glad I didn't fall asleep, this cold is making my head hurt. Ugh. You know I love the classics, but I do love all literature, so let's see what I can come up with. She sent the message, before craning her head to once again look at her bookshelf.

If you're feeling adventurous, Graceling by Kristin Cashore. Like a not so average love story? Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell. Like people don't understand you? It's Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini. He was one of her favorite authors, who just recently passed away, having lost his battle with anxiety.

The reply came relatively quickly, but because of her own head beginning to pound, she found that it felt like decades. Adaryn had avoided taking medication for as long as she could, but at this point the congestion was becoming too much. She grabbed the dayquil from the cabinet and took the capsules while she waited. Her phone buzzed in her pocket, and Adaryn grabbed it slowly.

I don't think I can handle adventurous right now, but I'll keep it in mind for future references. I might look at Eleanor & Park and It's Kind of a Funny Story.

Trying to hit send was difficult, because once again, she had a sneezing fit, but coughing soon came with it. A groan that sounded more like a squeak came from her mouth before texting again.

So is your throat hurting really bad, too? Or am I just fortunate enough to feel this?

What? Being sick already too much of an adventure for you? Both of those would be good reads right now! Let me know if you ever want to borrow something! Her bookshelf was Addie's bookshelf. She didn't lend her books out to just anybody, but people she knew would love them as much as she did. Addie was one of those people.

It's not just you. I'm miserable. Maybe she'd read a book herself, if her eyes would stop watering so much. It was like a common cold, but much worse.

She had an amazon gift card that her coworker had given her as an Easter gift a few weeks back that she had never used. Now was the perfect time to use it, considering how much time she had for herself. She had already managed to do all the homework that she could, and that was basically all of it.

She fumbled to look for the card when she heard the familiar vibrations of her phone, and she gave up looking to respond to the text message.

Glad to know I'm not the only one, even if that sounds incredibly selfish of me.

AJ would understand she didn't mean it in a negative way, and didn't wish any illness on her. It was just she felt like she was the only one who had to deal with this, so knowing that she wasn't the only one who was experiencing what she had was very reassuring.

No, it doesn't. I think everyone just wants someone to join them in their misery. Misery does love company after all, right?

AJ set her phone down on her torso again as she waited for a reply. She love giving book suggestions, especially to Adaryn, who adored a lot of the things she did. It was fun to give her new reading ideas.

Misery sure wanted company, among other things. The entire school, it seemed, was plagued with this sickness. She was sure she had gotten it from class where there were at least six other students showing signs of being sick. It was a lot of company.

It really loves me. Prayers for those who decide to come near me in the next week.

She pressed send. When she brought her head back up, Addie was surprised that the world began to swim and her head started to pound; it was lovely being sick, wasn't it?

I'm sure there is nyquil somewhere screaming my name, but I am too dizzy to even look for it. I swear my head just made a 360 spin when i picked my head up from the phone. Is the same happening to you?
