The BasicsName: Maisie Beatrice Pryce

Maisie can stretch her body, though being relatively new to her power she can only manage to independently stretch herself up to 8 feet, 12 maybe if she holds onto something and runs really fast.
Side effects include tired or “loose” feeling limbs (usually accompanied by a feeling of detachment), questionable grip when her arms are extended, muscle pain and stiffness, and she can still be directionally challenged when she independently stretches her limbs.

General Appearance:
At 5’5”, Maisie might be a little tall for her age and she continues to show signs of growth as puberty runs its course. Naturally slender, she often bemoans that her breasts could be bigger but they aren’t. Even trying to alter them with her ability has not had any specific effect other than to make her chest ache from trying. She has a casual, “trendy” style and likes making and designing her own clothing. She prefers color over anything neutral, though can be found mixing color pallets often with “experimentation” in mind.
She carries herself confidently and only slouches when she’s pouting about something. Her body lacks any significant scarring but is often covered with bruises as it’s not unusual for her to smack into things with a bit more gusto than intended when she stretches. She enjoys wearing a variety of earrings in her ears and has fun mixing and matching to see if people will notice. She also enjoys accessorizing with rings, bracelets and necklaces, pretty much anything flashy, glittery or shiny.
Personality: Maisie is ridiculously confident and cheerful. There is quite possibly nothing in the world that can get her down; she was even in good spirits last year in the middle of the flu. Due to this “happy-go-lucky”, playful attitude many people tend to think that she’s a simple-minded idiot. To be honest…she can definitely be an idiot at times. She doesn’t ever really think things through and is way more obsessed with the possibility of potentially having fun than any consequences that might result from whatever she’s doing at the time. Maisie and the word “planning” do not get along, though she is surprisingly punctual for someone who can’t be bothered to plan ahead which often surprises the heck out of her friends.
While it’s true that Maisie doesn’t plan and seems to take a laissez-faire approach to most everything, there are times when she can and will be serious. Anything she wants to be good at will receive her full attention. People being picked on or harassed is also something that will cause her happy exterior to fade. She doesn’t often get angry; in fact her temper is iron-clad and long-fused…but when it goes, watch out. She doesn’t take kindly to intimidation or bullying and has no problem telling someone to sit down and shut up if they’re in her face, though honestly she would rather avoid confrontation than initiate it.
For Maisie, humor can be found in almost any situation and she prefers to tell jokes and stories rather than play pranks on people as she thinks they can be rather cruel. She truly enjoys having fun with other people and is very much a group person, avoiding voluntarily isolating herself unless she has some serious work to do. Maisie, not surprisingly, is also incredibly optimistic about the future. It’s often difficult for her to come across as genuinely sympathetic about other people’s situations because she assumes that things can only get better. She has yet to learn that while she might assume this, her friends or other’s will not. This can easily lead to frustration, the type of “why can’t they see the silver lining?” that people usually having some sort of problem accepting when life is being a bitch to them.
She doesn’t approve of lying from others or herself. She tells the truth no matter the consequences and frankly, when she was a child, sometimes those consequences were severe. She doesn’t struggle to live honestly herself; it was never an issue choosing between the “right” path and the “wrong” path. She owns up to her mistakes and takes responsibility for all her actions, even when it would be convenient to tell a tiny lie to get her out of trouble. The only thing Maisie does struggle with in terms of honesty is that “little white lie” conundrum that everyone seems to enjoy testing at some point. Maisie never wants to hurt anyone but she’s often challenged in that regards when asked for her opinion. In order to deal with the uncomfortable truths she often finds herself dancing around the matter until she can find a suitable ‘non-answer’ or suggestion to smooth things over.Your Vices

Maisie was born the youngest of four children and was rather a surprise for her parents who thought they were five years into their last child. Though Kelly and Harvey had been responsible about their use of birth control, a drunken weekend trip away from their kids (their first alone time in many years) resulted in little girl that was quite separated from her siblings. It was a little difficult for Maisie growing up with so many years between her and her brother and sister’s. For one, bonding was strained due to the fact that the girls were often tasked with babysitting which they resented as they got older, especially Mallory. Though the oldest sister manifested her shadow power a year after Maisie was born and could live in Virginia away from a crying baby sister, she was often tasked with watching the youngest when she was home from school.
Minnie and Max often watched Maisie together though their own infighting often meant that Maisie went unattended for several moments before she was whisked away from danger seconds before it happened and put back into her playpen (her brother seemed especially adept at sensing when she was about to kill herself though it turned out to only be good instincts as neither he nor Minnie developed meta-powers. Despite her existence unintentionally leading her siblings to resentment and infighting, Maisie was a rather good natured child.
As Maisie remained her oblivious, innocent, child-self her parents began to fight and bicker almost as constantly as her siblings did. The stress of raising four children with limited funds, especially one that was so “gifted” she had to be sent to a special school was putting a strain on their already stressed relationship that included too many long nights working and not enough time for each other. Maisie was five when her parent’s divorced. Since Mallory was happily away at school, she could now choose to visit whichever parent she wanted during breaks (though she preferred to stay at school with friends), Minnie chose to go with their mother and Max asked to live with their father. Maisie, being too young to make this choice was placed under joint custody and spent every other weekend with her father.
She adjusted rather quickly, accepting that this was her life and that as long as one of her parents was around she was happy. Two years later, when she was 7 her mother grew very ill and she was sent off to live with her father on a more permeant basis while her mother recovered. It was then that she met Nadine, who, four years later would be her stepmother and welcoming her younger half-sister Sabine, into the world. By the time her baby sister was born, the eleven-year-old had been constantly shuffled between her mother and father. Kelly had remarried the year before to a man that couldn’t necessarily be bothered to help care for Maisie because he was too busy doting on his wife. Her brother Max was at the age where he didn’t want to be bothered by his little sister and spent most of his time out of the house with his friends while Maisie tried to form some sort of bond with Nadine who was naturally too wrapped up in her own child to give Maisie much attention. Her father too was exceedingly happy with his new baby girl and proudly talked about her to anyone who would listen.
Maisie was mostly left to her own devices but would occasionally be asked to watch her young sister which she did happily and with lots of responsibility. She took up sewing as a way to keep herself busy and occupied, starting with simple things and patterns and devoting a large amount of her free time perfecting her stitching and cutting. Despite her home life being less than ideal, she was well-fed and clothed and she was often surrounded by friends at school who were unaware of her family situation beyond knowing that her parents were divorced and that she lived with her father most of the time.
When Maisie was thirteen, she was watching Sabine one night when, as she was reaching for something her arm kept going and smacked into a nearby bookcase. Not being one to panic she focused and drew her arm back. Throughout the rest of the night she was very careful, especially around her sister. She didn’t mention anything to her father that night because she wasn’t sure how she should bring up the issue at hand but the next day at school the matter was taken out of her hands when, as she went to raise her hand to answer a question, she just kept stretching. Naturally this freaked a lot of her fellow students out and various people were called including both parents as she was still under joint guardianship. Maisie had to sit outside an office door and listen to her mother claim that SHE couldn’t be bothered to take Maisie for the night because she needed peace and quiet as part of her ongoing recovery regime. Her father’s concerns revolved around the toddler living in his house and how “dangerous” Maisie could be, even unintentionally.
It was the lowest she’d ever felt in her entire life. She had kept herself strong through several years of emotionally distant parents and siblings, telling herself that someday things would get better and that everything could be so much worse. No one hit her, or starved her, or was exceedingly cruel to her. Her respective step-parents were engaged to a point but deferred to Harvey or Kelly for most things regarding how to care for the bouncy, cheerful child who hardly seemed phased by all the bad surrounding her. Heaving a deep sigh, wondering how to emotionally work through the fact that both parents seemed to not want anything to do with her she met the Hammel recruiter that had been called about the situation.
Maisie had always been aware of Hammel, since her mother and her eldest sister were meta humans but because neither Minnie, nor Max had manifested as meta’s, Maisie had assumed that she wouldn’t either. The recruiter gave her a few encouraging words and then tactfully arranged for Maisie’s mother to keep her overnight, allowing the young girl time to travel between houses to pack her things. It was a bittersweet victory. Maisie went to her father’s house to pack first but was told not to take too long because he had to go back to work as soon as possible. Since most of her things were at her father’s house this proved to be a rather difficult request to fulfill which resulted in a short-tempered parent who complained the entire way to her mother’s house about things coming up unexpectedly and plans being ruined. Maisie didn’t even get to say goodbye to her brother since Max was at school. She managed to write him a short letter and slip it under his door, but since he hardly ever spoke to her, she wasn’t confident that he would even bother to read what she’d written.
Not wishing to be confrontational or cause a scene, Maisie said nothing to counter or support his complaints and bid him goodbye after he’d unloaded her luggage. Once she’d gotten it inside she had to endure her mother’s complaints as she packed what little she had left there. She was so discouraged by the time the next morning rolled around that she tried to run to the car when the recruiter pulled up, resulting in her body going down the walkway while her arms stretched behind her. After watching her possessions being shut away into the truck of the car she turned and bid her mother goodbye with a quick wave and then got into the car. The recruiter seemed worried about her as they drove to the airport but Maisie found it easy to smile.
“It’s okay. It can only get better from here,” she said optimistically as they drove towards the airport. After a long day of traveling they arrived at the school with plenty of time for Maisie to get her dorm assignment and settle in a little to meet some other students before she could go down and eat dinner. She was nervous and a bit apprehensive but she completely and utterly believed that things could only get better.
And she was right.
Over the last two years Maisie has had the opportunity to become the best person she could be while surrounded by friends and encouraging teachers. She and her siblings even managed to reconcile a bit through exchanging emails and chatting through texts messages when they have the chance. Maisie doesn’t speak to her parents much but they dutifully pay her tuition and make sure that she has money to buy clothes and anything else she might need or want and they find time to tell her they love her. Something else that Maisie has become aware of over the last two years is her disinterest in members of the opposite or same gender, sexually. It’s not that the idea of sex is repulsive to her or that she’s repressed it somehow; she simply has no interest in sex and has been assured that that is perfectly okay. She hopes to meet a partner someday who understands since she would like to have companionship in her life, even marriage someday.
