The Basics
Name: Paisley Ellen Sims
Nicknames: none
Age: 14
Orientation: Bisexual
Desired Rank/Job: Student
Powers: Duplication: Ability to duplicate oneself.
Paisley can create two duplicates of herself at a time currently. However if she creates more than one, the copies start to have noticeable irregularities. Most common impairments that appear are vocal (repeating words, losing speech, incomplete sentences) and movement (body twitches, walking into walls or in circles, losing movement in one or more limbs). These can decrease with more training.
Distance and time also affect the duplicates. Right now, Paisley's range that she can maintain her power in extends around the areas of Pilot Ridge and the Hammel. The time she can maintain duplicates varies because of distance and other strains, generally she can keep one duplicate around for < four hours, with irregularities starting around the three hour mark. She can keep two duplicates around for < two hours. The closer to her limits she gets the more energy is used and she can end up passing out from exhaustion.
For her original body the side affects are extreme fatigue, confusion and absent-mindedness, conflicting memories after the duplicates are gone, and phantom sensations and pains(feeling sensations from a body part that is no longer there).
Memories transfer to the original body after she stops the duplication. When she wills duplicates away or passes out from maintaining them they completely disappear. Duplicates cannot be maintained through sleep.
Duplicates act and react exactly like Paisley would if transported from the time of duplication to whatever situation occurs. If Paisley were in an unstable state at the time she duplicated herself any duplicates would remain that way until the disappear.

General Appearance:
Paisley bounces around at a height of 5'4 and an weight on the the lower side of average. She has a light tan skin tone and dark brown, wavy hair. She tends to stare people down with her brown, almond-shaped eyes. Having small, straight, rectangle shaped build, she was often described as a twig at home. Her heart shaped face bears soft features. A button nose sits above her thin lips; that are usually covered in some kind of flavored lip gloss.
Paisley shows an eager smile with her whole body and makes expansive gestures when she get excited. She has a slight southern accent that comes out more when she gets passionate while speaking.
What she usually wears falls into the categories of preppy, casual, and comfortable. She does go with more girly dresses when special events come up. She only wears one piece of jewelry, a necklace her dad gave her; It has a silver chain and a small silver heart charm.
Personality:
Paisley would like to appear as a laid back and approachable person. However, her own anxieties come out in vigorous untamed energy that can become over the top. She has a a leading desire to make the people around her happy; this makes her a caring and comforting person, but leads her to ignore her own problems until they blow up in her face. She is curious and really listens when people talk about themselves of thinks their interested in.
Humor is both a passion and a mask for her. She has a dream of becoming a comedian because she loves comedy and making people laugh. On top of that, Jokes and gags are tools she's used all her life to hide any negative emotions she refuses to show. Feelings like doubt, sadness, fear, hurt, and grief are burdens in her mind. She hates the idea that she could be a burden on others. Her lack of emotional vulnerability gives her a less relatable vibe; even if inside she is highly emotional and emotionally driven. She only lets this guard down with her dad.
Though her caring side shows with her peers, Paisley has an acute distrust of authority figures. Just about the only adults she likes are the ones who still act like kids, those who don't endorse rules, and - of course - the funny ones. She has a rebellious attitude when it comes to the rest. This attitude combined with her already high drive for independence can lead to more trouble than benefit for her. This plays out a lot with her mom and caused them to become distant.
Paisley is observant and adaptable in calm situations, but when things get stressful she is easily overwhelmed and can make things worse by trying to change the situation to a happy one. Creative ideas fill up her mind all the time which makes her have a hard time focusing, especially in her academic classes. Whether her ideas are good or bad, most of them don't work out well well with her dreadful organization and lack of practicality. She tends to overthink most things.

History
Once upon a time, a girl was born in on the thirteenth day of the month. It was a clear, early March morning in Atlanta, Georgia. Her parents were young and nervous; when they finally caught sight of their little pink bundle of joy, the world couldn't have been more right. It had been tough with Agatha's pregnancy, Duke had to take on another job and drop his plans for college. He had wanted to become an architect, but decided getting money for his family was more important at the time. Agatha had dropped her college plans too and devoted time setting up everything for her baby. In that moment, everything worked.
They named the girl Paisley after a well-told story from their honeymoon almost a year ago. While driving around on the second day of their trip to Scotland, Duke managed to get them lost...in the rain...at night. After bickering and driving for and hour, Agatha finally convinced him to pull over at a small bed and breakfast for the night. They ended up having a wonderful honeymoon night and woke up to sunshine and smiles. After the best pancakes they both had ever had, Agatha found out they were in the town of Paisley. Renewed, the couple found a way back to their hotel.
Years went by and the little girl grew and grew. Learning her dad's humor and mom's determination along the way. It was a happy childhood. Agatha went to college and got her bachelors degree once Paisley had started kindergarten. Duke was able to quit his second job once she started work and they were happy in those early years.
Things took a shift around the time Paisley was eight. There were more fights between her parents. The young girl couldn't see why. They were happy. Right?
Duke was fired in the next year and the arguments started to be about money, not just silly things. Paisley saw her father decline. No matter how many times she told jokes and goofed off, he wasn't himself all the time. She didn't understand that it wasn't something with such a simple solution. The arguments got less heated and Paisley could only watch her family grow distant and cold. Her father withdrew into himself and said he wasn't interested in doing any of the activities they used to do together.
She thinks about the decisive day a lot. How normal it was until she came home from another boring day in fifth grade. Her mom waited for her. Paisley listened as her mother explained how she didn't love her father as a husband anymore. That they were getting a divorce. Paisley and her mom would be moving to Charlotte without her dad; that he needed some time to get better before she could see him again.
"Is he sick?" She remembered asking.
"No, but your father needs to think through some things. He needs some help to do this so he's going to therapy." Her mother had explain in a calm tone; the same tone she use when helping Paisley with homework.
"He's seeing a shrink?" Paisley asked, her fear rising.
"Don't call it that, Paisley. Therapy will help your father become happier. Don't you want that?" Agatha asked.
"Make him happy? Yeah right! What about sticking together as a family? How the hell can he be happy without us!?" Paisley outright yelled by then, arms swinging around in wild gestures.
She'd been grounded after that one. No amount of pleading swayed her mother's decision; after the school year ended they left Atlanta.
Six months later, she had her first visit with her dad. He did look like he felt better, but Paisley was still not convinced that leaving was a good idea. She had a great adoration of her dad and wanted to have him around to joke and play with again. Her mom was always the rule enforcer, wasn't a playful person and was busy a lot; she didn't think living with her was fun without her dad. Paisley heard her parents having fights on the phone sometimes; most of them about her or money and used weird legal jargon. It took another year until she was convinced that they weren't going back to live with her dad in Atlanta.
Life was still rocky after that. Not that it was all bad. Paisley liked her middle school in Charlotte and made a few good friends. She saw her dad more since he started to manage himself and had a new job. However, she started to become a more rebellious and her grades hovered on the passing line. She became distant from her mom; Agatha still tried to draw her out, but was always deflected by her daughter.
"I'm busy."
"I don't want to talk."
"It's none of your business."
It was a hot day at the end of May, when something strange happened. Paisley had turned 14 earlier that year and finally got her birthday visit with her dad. They had just finished the drive to Charlotte from Atlanta. The visit had been a blast since Duke had a couple days off work and they'd sung along (terribly) to the radio the whole drive. They met with Agatha at coffee shop. She smiled when she her daughter so full of life. Paisley shared a long goodbye hug with her dad.
"You can go to the car, I need to pee." She told her mom and headed for the bathroom.
She splashed water on her face; careful to avoid the mascara she had started wearing this year. She kept telling herself that she wasn't going to cry. There was no need to make such a scene. Besides, it would only have her mom start the whole questioning thing again. If only she could just be in two places at once.
With wide eyes she watched in the mirror as her reflection split into two versions of her. Turning around with a gasp she examined her new double with a grin.
Her copy slipped out to the car and she stayed and found her dad in line to order coffee. She lied and told him something came up and her mom needed him to watch her for longer. Her copy headed home without the usual gloom from saying goodbye.
Two hours into the extra time with her dad and Paisley started yawning. Duke got a call from a freaking out Agatha. She told him Paisley started twitching and couldn't talk clearly. Duke turned to the Paisley who was now passed out in the passenger seat; Agatha now even more worried because she couldn't find her daughter in the house. He told her Paisley was with him, had been with him this whole time, and she wouldn't wake up.
They met at the hospital. The two fumbling and flabbergasted parents managed to get out enough words for a doctor to know what to do. The hospital tested her and it came out positive. The doctor then explained to the two anxious parents that their daughter had manifested and experienced typical side effects. All the hospital could do was offer to watch over her. So, Paisley's parents waited patiently for her to awaken.
It took a long twelve hours, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. When Paisley finally opened her eyes, everything had changed. Her mom and dad were crying. Hammel Institute had already contacted her parents through the hospital and she would leave for the special boarding school that day. She could barely understand what had happened with her mind so muddled. Her mom cried.
The rest of her day was a murky fog. Paisley watched her parents bustle about helping her pack. Things were awkward with her mom after the unspoken 'rule of little emotion' was broken. Yet, she still got the expected "be responsible with your ability" talk. Before she could process all the new input she said goodbye. She cried.
Paisley didn't expect Hammel to be so average. Nonetheless, she was guided around in a short tour and stuffed with information that she knew wouldn't stick in her disoriented state. The rest of the day was spent on half unpacking her stuff. In the last moments before bed she hid her class schedule under the pile of clothes now spilling out of the dresser.
Why, oh why, had the universe cursed her with math in the morning?
Roleplay Example
Paisley arrived at school mentally kicking herself. She'd had another fight with her mom that morning. It got particularly heated and her mom walked away at the end.
"If your so independent, you can walk to school alone."
Her mom's words stung. Yes, she was thirteen, and school was close, but she still wanted to walk together. After all, her mom took time to do before work. Even if Paisley walked a few steps ahead; it comforted her to know her mom was right behind her. What had they been arguing about? It certainly wasn't worth the pit in her stomach now.
Pasting on her megawatt smile, Paisley walked into homeroom. A couple minutes of inside jokes with her gaggle of friends and she had virtually forgotten the uncomfortable morning. Things would cool over. No need to be upset. She drilled the words inside her thoughts.
The homeroom teacher walked through the crooked rows of desks handing out progress reports. Clicking, heeled footsteps seemed as loud as cannons in Paisley's ears. Another bomb approaching, she was sure. Exactly what she needed after this morning. The red marks glared up from her report as it was placed on her desk.
"I'll be calling your mom after school about these grades, Miss. Sims." The teacher clucked.
Paisley banged her head on the desk once and then looked up.
"You can call her now. I have a concussion!" A few snickers followed her words and the fake triumphant smile she showed.
"Nice try, Miss. Sims." The teacher moved on down the rows. Paisleys smile stayed. With a shrug, she shoved the despicable page into her bag. The only negative reaction she showed was they ever-so-slight slump in her shoulders.
