Sgt.Maj Mayburry is a gifted orator, known for his speeches. Below are some excerpts from his most “famous” moments
In the office of Congressman Thomas J. Biley, Jr. Virginia
Representative. 1978
“Young man, you realize the Naval academy is a big commitment?”
“Congressman Biley, with all due respect, I know I’m not the brightest bulb in the box, but I need the Naval Academy and the Naval Academy needs me. I come from four generations of United States Marines…Its in my blood. I need to serve my country, Condressman Biley, just like you serve.”
”And just what is it you think you want to do, Mister Mayburry?”
“I just want to be a marine.”
-----
Operation Urgent Fury, Grenada. 1983[/u]
”It’s not like training Lieutenant Mayburry...”
“It oughtta not be. This is the real thing.”
”What if we’re in the wrong here?”
“Private Gordenn, this is the real deal. I know you gotta a girl back home, right?”
”Yeah. Genevive.”
“Right. I got one too. Name’s Juniper. You think she’s proud of you?”
”I guess.”
“You’re damn right she is! You’ve shipped out with the President’s own! The bravest men and women in the United States to protect Genevive and what she believes in! You wanted to be a Marine? Now you shine those shoes and you clean that gun and you get your ass out there and you be a marine, Private!”
”YES SIR!”

Operation Desert Storm. Kuwait. 1990.[/u]
”I’m scared Captain…”
“…Me Too, Soldier. But keeping up the fight for all the others who are scared is what makes us Marines. Who’d be there if we weren’t?”
----------------------------------------
At the Funeral of Private First Class Amanda Gerrison. 1991[/u]
“I wouldn’t wish what I saw in Kuwait on any man, let alone any woman. I made a point to know every Marine in my care, and my Marines knew me. But that grenade…when it came…I didn’t know nothing. Not even how I survived. All I could think of was my wife…my kids…and all of a sudden—no more grenade. At that time, I didn’t know that Private. I didn’t know her name was Amanda Gerrison. I didn’t know she’d saved me. I didn’t know she was Meta-human. But now I know her. Now I know that that Marine gave her life for a man she didn’t know. And I’ll never forget that. Amanda, looking down on me here I hope I can do you proud…I know you’ve done the same for me, and America salutes you.”
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At his retirement party, US Naval Academy. 2002[/u]
“Well I wasn’t expecting to give a speech today, but I guess I have to to get rid of all this chanting---didn’t they teach you jarheads nothing about manners?...Coming from Fredericksburg I knew the Marines all my life. Nothin’ else. Three tours abroad took its toll on me and my family--- ask my ex-wife--- but I prayed to god to make me more than a Marine. A good leader not just for my men, but for my kids. Make me a family man, God, I asked. And I hope now that I’m retiring…well I hope I’ll be able to do just that.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At a USMC recruiting event. Quantico, Virginia. 2010[/u]
“I know most of you here are looking to head into recruitment. I guess that’s why they picked me to talk to you. What I’m really here to talk to you about though, is something more important. More important, to you, to me, and to the nation as a whole: that is the Meta-human presence in our society. I know some of you Leathernecks there listening are Meta-humans yourselves, but your status isn’t what’s important. It’s the status of those there using their god-given abilities for hate. For terrorism. We. Can’t. Let. Them. Win.
I want to talk to you about Operation Patriot…”

Personal ‘References’:
“He’s not my ex-husband because he’s an asshole. I’ll tell you that much. Gerard is a good man. A strong man. He works hard. Too hard. I’ll tell you something about our marriage: He was married to America. I was the other woman.”
-Juniper Salisburne. Amicable Ex-Wife.
“The reason the Mayburry marriage fell apart wasn’t infidelity or lack of love or trust, it was simply that Juniper and Gerard were too different. Their lives were taking them in different directions. I’ve never seen a fairer, friendlier, healthier split than theirs.”
-Kerrington Barr. Divorce Attorney.
“CHRIST can that man SING! And the fish…the fish love him. I bet if he didn’t have such a love for the military he’d do nothing but karaoke and fish all day long. That’s why we call him Captain America, y’know? He’s just so…American!”
-Jeffry Cosgrove. Co-Worker. Department of Homeland Security.
