At this point in time Theo has almost full control of his powers. His hearing is quite acute and for him very useful. He can use it to hear whats going on inside a persons body [heartbeat, breath, pulse, general blood movement, and such]. His touch is very sensitive to the point where he can feel the vibrations around him. Scents are also very strong, letting him sort of smell the emotional level in the room [because of pheromones, not empathy]. He can also smell sickness when it reaches a certain point and identify medicine by smell. All put together he uses this sensory information to help those who are unwell and to identify people.

When Theo left Kocher he was in full control of his powers and they only grew more precise as he went through his studies. It was only a few years ago when his wife die that his powers became unpredictable because of his upset emotional state. His sense where slightly uncontrollable causing confusion and sometimes pain. Some of the regular drawbacks include migraines [Theo always has a bottle of ibuprofen with him], occasional sensory flares, and very rarely sensory overload. Theo has OCD and cannot stand when people reorganize his things or move his furniture. Messes annoy him greatly also. He to have an aversion to very loud music or noises he considers annoying. Theo tends to accidentally sneak up on people because he cannot stand the sound of his own footsteps.

Theo wants to be able to perfectly identify people who come around him before he can see them. There are some people he can always identify but other times he can't. He wants to have fewer and fewer sensory flashes and regain complete control over his power.

General Appearance: For a man of 51 years, Theo doesn't look that bad. He is 5 feet 11 inches of narrow, wiry sarcasm. Theo is rather trim due to the fact that he has a high metabolism and is a constant runner. [He says it clears his head] You can see intelligence in his warm, gold brown eyes, but you can also see a lingering sadness and wisdom in them. His hair is of medium length and a dark brown black, showing bits of silver at the temples. His nose is long and his facial features very sharp, giving him a wide range of expressions. Sometimes you'll see him wearing a bit of scruff, but not always. The man has crows feet at the corner of his eyes, which make him look sort of handsome. Although Theo doesn't think about the fact anyone might be interested in him.

The Doctor likes to dress rather simply. Button up shirts and jeans are common for him. In the winter sweaters and scarves are also something you see him in, although more in his personal time that at work. He's not a fan of suits, but does wear them when necessary . When working he does wear a lab coat, but that just comes from the like of having a long coat on. Besides, his lankiness looks rather good in jeans, a button up shirt and jeans. The colors he wears most often are greys and slate colors, along with light cream colors. Occasionally you might see him in red, but more often darker browns. He very rarely wears greens. It's just not his color.

You won't see huge amounts of jewelry on Theo. He does have a gold necklace, a thin chain with an [urlhttp://www.freespiritemporium.com/pdt399.jpg]amber pendant

[/url] that belonged to his wife. His wedding ring is also sometimes visible, although he doesn't always wear it. Sometimes he even put it on his necklace with the pendant.


Personality: Theo is a complex kind of person who can be hard to understand at times. His personality on the outside is rather... prickly, but inside there is a real, caring person. It's just a matter of overlooking the rather unpleasant exterior to get there.

He seems to be a different person depending on when you se him. Most of the time you see a strong, light stepped man who has the ability to be brutally honest with everyone around him without thinking about the consequences of his words. He is very watchful and detail oriented, paying great amounts of attention to everyone and everything around him. Theo has great amounts of patience [despite his general abrasiveness and grumpiness] which tends to lend itself to his work. He has had to teach himself to be leniaent and patient for the sake of the people he works with. Otherwise he would be downright unbearable. [which he still is most of the time]

Theo is very goal oriented. Or you could just call it stubborn, both would work. When he starts working on something you really don't want to disturb him though, because his patience disappears. He'll get irritated quickly, which usually turns out badly. The man is lightning sharp, cunning, and sly when he wants to be, but in a negative manner. This is when his biting sarcasm and bitter comments emerge. Sometimes the man can just seem very very callous and really, sort of an ass.

One thing is that he doesn't talk about himself, being a rather introverted person on the account of his past. The truth is, he doesn't talk about himself because he doesn't want to make any deep connections and suffer because of it. The tough, ornery man has emotions that run very, very deep. He just keeps them hidden under all his general irritability and unlikeable self. If you look though you'll see it's his grief and guilt that drive his work.

Theo has downfalls just like everyone else which are worse than his everyday self. He's still lightning sharp, but when left alone to his thoughts he can seem extremely bitter and rather damaged. The man smokes, drinks ridiculous amounts of coffee, and sometimes something stronger when the situation demands it.

For all his downfalls and negativities the man does have a few good qualities hidden away. He loves reading and spends large amounts of time in the library or somewhere quiet. If you can manage to stay around his prickly personality you would learn he is actually a very good listener. He has sympathy for other, it's just hiding.

Really, a way to sum him up is to say he is emotionally diametrically opposed..[/size]

History

Theo was born in Scotland on November 5th to Kale and Gloria Atwell. He was an intelligent child growing up, unable to get enough books and earning from school and home. He loved the rainy, warm, green of Scotland and was always outside, running or playing, or exploring. It was around age twelve Theo's power started to show. He was hearing things more acutely, seeing colors sharper, and in general it freaked him out. He thought he was sick, so he was taken to the doctors. It was only a few days after that that representatives from Kocher showed up to explain to him that he was a meta-human. The idea amazed Theo greatly. So off to Kocher he went.

His time there was well spent, as he learned much and gained control of his powers. Time seemed to pass quickly for him. He dated of course [both guys and girls], and really enjoyed the social atmosphere. Theo even found he was an excellent chess player. Once schooling was done he went straight to University to study mathematics and genetics [as well as medicine] He had a great interest in meta-human development, and wanted to work with meta-humans. It took twelve years, but he earned his Doctorate, as well as becoming a medical practician.

By this time Theo was thirty. He went back to Kocher to get a job as a doctor there as well as research metahuman genetics. He worked there for three years before he met Noelia. She was also part of the Kocher Staff, a literature teacher. They became close friends and dated on and off, eventually getting married. It was only seven years later when Theo was forty that Noelia was diagnosed with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig's disease. The onset of symptoms was very quick.. She lost motor control, her ability to walk following that. Theo felt helpless as he watched her become less and less mobile. Eventually she was hospitalized.

Theo furiously threw himself into genetic research to try and find a cure. While the medications helped slow her condition it seemed nothing could stop it. Eventually one day, Noelia died, Theo sitting right next to her. He was forty five, she was only forty two. Grief overtook him, and he went through a personality crisis, become a bitter, guilty, grief ridden person.

He tried dating a few years later, but that didn't work out so well. He moved to Pilot Ridge two years ago, and only recently started to work for Hammel. It reminds him of his days at Kocher, which can be both a good thing and a bad thing at times.

Roleplay Example

The sounds of pages being ripped out of a notebook echoed through the silent infirmity. A tall, thin man sat in the sun at one of the tables, going through some equations. Why did he even bother sometimes? The numbers never added up right, the ideas never seemed to work. Quickly he sketched a DNA model, labeling a few of the specific genes. He wrote out a start code, and a few strings of letters after that. The notes took on a more frantic look, but he continued to write on the pad. The sound of footfalls reached his ears, and he tried to match it with the patterns he already knew. None came to mind right away. A new student maybe? I really need to concentrate he grumbled internally.

" Dr. Atwell?" a female voice asked. A student. He leaned back, running a hand through his hair and pushing his glasses up on his nose. Then he stood up, turning. He could already tell she had a fever, and internally had to push back comments surfacing in is mind. She was sick, and he had to help. That was what he did. For Lia. How many times did he have to tell himself that. He was a Doctor before a researcher. No amount of work would bring her back now, so he just had to look forward.

" Come in come in," He motioned for her to step insdie and close the door. Already he could tell the bell was going to ring in just a few seconds, as it send some high pitched noise through his head before it did so. The girl stepped in, and the bell rang, the clamor of students rushing around very, very loud in his ears.

" Umm, I wasn't feeling well. I think I have a fever." She said in a shy voice. Maybe she had heard about his spectacular personality. Oh well. He had her sit on a table, and started to do a few basic check ups. He could feel the fever on her skin, and held the thermometer out to her. Theo guessed her temperature was somewhere around 100 degrees, and the little digital device confirmed his guess.

" You have the flu. I'd say take some NyQuil and sleep it off." He scribbled on a piece of paper, an excuse to miss class.
" This will excuse you from class for two days. You should be fine by then. If not, come back and see me." The student took the paper and nodded, walking out.

I need some coffee. He thoguht, and left to look for the miraculous stuff.
