The Basics
Name: Shane Danin Williams
Nicknames: none
Age: 17 Birth date April 8th
Orientation: Undecided
Desired Rank/Job: Student
Powers: Super Hearing- Although the extent of Shane’s hearing is still being investigated all that is known is he can hear now when he decides to. Born presumably deaf, he started to develop a muted sense of hearing around puberty. Inconsistent in nature his gift will eventually develop into the ability to hear at varying acuities, from not hearing at all to hearing several miles away. Being the silent type himself he frequently forgets about his gift, or pretends to.
Limitations: Shane is completely mute, unable to create even the slightest vocal sound including words, grunts, groans, laughs, etc. Right now he demonstrates a severe lack of control of his gift frequently resulting in noises being painful to him. Because of this he usually carries ear plugs everywhere with him. If he tries to listen to something outside of ‘normal’ human hearing he begins to develop severe headaches and is very prone to ear infections.

The Details
Hair Color:brown
Eye Color: green
Any Piercings? no
Any Tattoos? no but he has a design in mind
Any Scars? several from a car accident as a child.
General Appearance: Shanes style is best described as comfortable, not really one to fall into a jeans and t-shirt routine. He enjoys wearing slacks or jeans, and can usually be found wearing a buttoned shirt over a t-shirt, trench coats, sports coats, or sweat shirts. Here is a sample of his style
Personality: Shane’s extremely laid back and relaxed, he enjoys the really simple things and can be difficult to upset. Born without hearing the last few weeks this has become increasingly true and Shane can typically be found entranced by simple sounds usually forgotten. He’s absolutely fixated on the sound of rain at the time being.
There are a few things, however, that really get him like: anyone picking on his little sister, or women in general. But that comes with the territory of being raised close to his mother and sister in his mind. He can become violent but you REALLY have to push his buttons to get him there.
It comes to be expected from his limitations that Shane’s social skills are severely delayed. He doesn’t always know the ‘right’ things to ‘say’ in sticky situations, and frequently misunderstands people’s intents. As a result he stays away from unfamiliar situations and people. On the same page once Shane makes a friend he can be clingy, particularly if they understand his ‘language’.
He’s often considered on the homosexual orientation because of his acute obsession with details, he always looks well put together and has no problem helping others do the same (once he knows them). However, he considers himself A-oriented. He’s found really no attraction in either sex in which to be drawn to and finding that draw really isn’t on his priority list.
Your Vices
Likes: Bright colorful rooms, good tasting foods and sweets, the vibrations from music, playing guitar with his sister (again the vibrations and her enjoyment). He loves to go for walks and this has become increasingly so with the manifestation of his gift.
Dislikes: Loud noises, being ignored or forgotten, people who pick on others, pungent smells.
Strengths: people watching, making his sister and usually those around him smile, he is very strong in math and chemistry.
Weaknesses: loud noises, his little sister, He has to be careful not to get to ‘talkative’ or his carpal tunnel will act up which can put him in a bad mood.
Fears: Losing any other sense. His deepest fear is losing his sight. He’s quickly getting over a recent fear of being any more ‘different’ and getting sent away, seeing as how that happened.
Secret: His most recent secret has been discovered, his ability to hear. He pretends to be interested in girls whenever the topic comes up but honestly he just doesn’t know.
Family Ties
Father: Kennedy Williams, late 40’s, music instructor
Mother: Maryanne Williams, early 40’s, seamstress
Siblings: Jane Williams, 12, student
Any Other Important People:Dusty, golden retriever and aide dog.
History
I suppose history begins when you’re born. Coming from a family with a strong history of deafness on my mother’s side, it was no big surprise when I didn’t respond to noise as an infant. My mother and I developed an extremely close bond as she taught both me and my father fluency in ASL.
Skip forward four years:
When my sister was born, our once quiet (or atleast to me) home became a disaster zone, I would watch as Jane would scrunch up her face open her mouth and feel the vibrations that came of her little body. Mom became very withdrawn and I frequently would find her on the other side of the house with her hands on her own ears. Unaffected by the noise I would spend hours soothing my sister through her colic months. That close bonding has turned into a life time of close relationships.
Skip forward 12 years.
Puberty has a tendency to come slowly on my father’s side of the family and I was no exception. At almost fifteen I was slowly going through the growth spurts my classmates had gone through 2-3 years earlier. While most of the kids in my classes were gaining height on the girls, bulking up with some muscle, growing facial hair, talking about sex… I was still baby skinned, twig like, and completely uninterested in competition, or girls. My parents became concerned and took me in. The doctor gave the all clear. I was fine, normal, just a late bloomer; however, I should start taking some supplements that could help kick start the process. The drugs worked. Within a few weeks I was officially starting puberty.
Skip forward a few days.
I remember without blemish the day it happened. I was having a stressful week, teasing had picked up from some of the kids from school as I adjusted to my new body, I was starting to have headaches, my throat hurt, and I swore I was on the edges of a cold. Then it started raining, I was sitting at my desk working on some assignment when the strangest sensation washed over me, looking out the window I watched and listened with rapture fascination as rain fell. I was consumed with amazement and terror. I was different; they would come back for me and take me away. Everyone knew that when someone was different they went away. The amazement disappeared and I vowed not to let anyone know.
Skip forward a few days.
Hiding my gift was both easier and harder than I thought; it was easy to ignore people talking around me, they didn’t expect me to respond anyhow unless I was looking straight at them and reading lips. It was easy because I honestly couldn’t always hear them. However it was harder to not respond to noises I didn’t expect like slamming doors, car horns, alarms, timers; the list went on, I took to staying home from school and keeping in my room. That is until Jane figured it out. I was walking with her to the store when a dog barked and scared me. She went right home and told mom who called the doctor. The Hammel people showed up shortly after that and my worst fears came true, I was being taken away from my home in Seattle to a school in Vermont. I can’t say that if the roles were reverse I would have done anything differently but I still can’t say I’ve fully forgiven Jane for telling on me. Even if it is for my own good that I be around people who can help me.
Roleplay Example
I growled at him. "Staying put last time almost got me shot" I shut my mouth though and tucked further into the corner he'd shoved me into, at least for the moment while I focused.
I let my sense relax, listening. "breathing, 10 yards, up to the right, he's moving" I whispered softly "I want to know whose after me. We need to know whose developed the technology to mask the Were scent. He may have more of it on him." His gun fired, and I took the moments distraction to get out from behind him and up the set of stairs behind a wide beam.
Rosaline Verdugo, you have no reason to hide from who you are anymore. My employer wants to help you, why should you fear your father's gift. There was a clanking of a gun dropping. I have been told to lend my aid to you if my mission to retrieve you safely failed. I am yours and yours only to command my dear.
I didn't bother looking at Braydin, I knew he'd be pissed as hell. I focused revealing something I'd hope to hide longer, I threw my voice a short distance back down where Braydin was "Whose your employer"
Now now, that bit of information is the only thing keeping me alive, I rather like my neck. I have a gift for you, a token of good will
I listened as more metal fell from a high distance, There I am unarmed, I can tell you there are two men waiting for you to step outside the doors, standard issue escape drivers. I'm sure your sniper will or already has made quick work of them
"Why should I trust you?" I threw my voice once more before looking. I spotted the man on the other side of the warehouse, he was studying where I'd been.
Curiosity
I grabbed my last knife and moved quickly but silently to the next beam. There was a crash at the front door and two more men came in shifted as beasts. I took the distraction to moved over several more beans. With Braydin distracted with those two I had more energy to focus on this guy. "Tell me how'd you get the masking serum?"
A gift from my employer
I glanced at him and threw my knife, it landed where I wanted it inches from his face. His startled reaction gave me room to close the distance between us. He grinned as he attacked trying hard to get access to my ankles, there was a sharp but shallow slice to my side right before I knocked him down his arms spraying out to catch himself as retrieved my knife and slammed it hilt first into the back of his head. There was a sickly crunch before he collapsed. I tucked myself quickly behind the nearest beam wiping my side with a cringe. It would heal no problem.
I looked down as Braydin killed the last were, standing I grabbed the one I'd knocked down and dragged him down to the lower level. "Try to keep in mind I'm not a fucking porcelain doll that needs to be protected, trying working with me and not throwing me into a corner" I snarled at him as I retrieved my knife from the skull I'd embedded it in. I packed my bag in seconds ignoring the burning in both my legs and my side.
I glanced up only for a moment as Havok came in. "Thanks for the cover, all but that ones dead. Best I can gather he was the one calling the shots."
"Oh" I turned back on Braydin. "and don't think cause your older than me gives you the right either"
