Character Questions

Hello. I'm new to the whole super-powered character ideas, but had joined a site for them. While there, I'd made two characters. Emily was unknowingly a healer, but otherwise not very smart, an airhead type. Madison was clairvoyant (a hard power to use, because of the high chance of god modding, I know) and because of something she'd Seen and couldn't prevent, spent two years sedated to control her suicidal impulses.

Things at that site didn't really work out. A lot of the reason is that a large part of that site required OOC socializing. I was fine with that, but as an admin on a Hogwarts RPG site, I didn't have a lot of time for that. (I still don't, because in addition to the admin account, I have other active characters there.) I don't mind socializing and getting to know RPG buddies, but it's not like I could ignore my Hogwarts site and all of those characters there to be on the new one all the time.

Another part was that my characters, with their passive powers, just didn't really fit in because about half the characters there were fire elementals. There was obviously no cap on the power types.

All that being said, I've missed playing with those characters, and due to the above reasons, I don't feel comfortable going back to the previous site where they were. It would be the same old story. It wouldn't be fair to me, nor would it be fair the site itself if I were to try to return just to end up leaving again.

The bottom line is that I'm looking for somewhere I can play comfortably, and where my characters fit in without me being worried that some fire handler is going to kill one of them by accident. (Madison was the only non-fire power in her dormitory.)

I don't mind tweaking my characters for a different site, but I'm also not wanting to change them so much that I no longer recognize them, if that makes sense.

After looking around, I do think I may be able to enjoy being here, but that doesn't mean it's the right fit for Emily and Madison. I'd rather find out what I can before registering or anything. I dislike people who register and then never return, because it seems like a waste of time to me. I'd prefer not to become what I dislike.

Anyway, I do have the character profiles I made when I created them if that would help determine if this could be the place for them.

Just from what you have given me here, I'm going to say that Emily could work easily with some tweaking--Hammel would have found her within weeks of her power manifesting, and we call healing biological manipulation--but I am not so sure about Madison. We prefer narrowly-defined powers, so what you refer to as cairvoyance might be considered precognition, retrocognition, ESP, or remote viewing. I would also need to know more about her background before judging on the rest of her.

This is just on spec, but I think yea for Emily and maybe not for Madison.

To understand, the other site's setting was a governmental facility, a school run by the government for mutants. The students were generally not there by choice. Most were kidnapped, some were turned in by 'normal' school officials, friends, or family. So, obviously, I wouldn't mind tweaking the characters' pasts or reasons for being there. I also wouldn't mind tweaking the powers or how they manifested, or their time-lines. (Such as not having Madison out for two years.) Mostly, I just want them to be able to keep their powers and personalities.

As set up, Emily was raised by a a single mother. Her mother didn't work for a living, but married for it. She's always just thought she was lucky to heal faster than most people. She was also able to heal others, but not entirely. If someone got hurt and it was life-threatening, after looking, she wouldn't realize she'd done anything about it, and would think it just looked worse than it was. Her mother encouraged those thoughts. Her mother also encouraged her not to be openly smart, being of the school of thought that boys didn't like to be shown up in that area and she was basically turning Emily into herself. Emily went along with that because she hated to study. But, between husbands, Emily's mom had trouble living without all her luxuries and turned Emily into the government, telling Emily that she was just going to boarding school.

Madison is different than Emily, obviously. Madison was brought up by both parents in a decidedly middle-class area. Her mother was a teacher and her father a construction worker. She's learned the value of hard work to get what one wants. Her power is precognition. As set up before, she'd had the power and kept it a secret. She went suicidal after she'd seen something horrific in a vision, and then saw it in real life. The thing is, while she was suicidal, it was because she kept seeing the even in her nightmares. She just couldn't get away from it. The way the site was set up, she had to be young enough for that to affect her so much, but old enough to be sent off to that school/training place. That's why she was kept sedated so long.

Emily's character concept is okay, and Madison's looks pretty much okay too, except she would not have been able to keep her ability a secret for more than a few weeks. Hammel can find just about everyone, and quickly. But that is a timeline issue, and not a power or personality thing.
