The Basics

Name: Vincent Ivanovich Romanov
Nicknames: Vince, Ivan, Vin
Age: 42
Orientation: Heterosexual
Desired Rank/Job: Other staff member (Head of Security)
Powers:
Kinetic Energy Absorption and Conversion ~ Kinetic energy is the energy an object has because of its motion. Vincent Romanov is able to absorb any and almost all forms of kinetic energy directed at him, including electrical energy. Direct blunt force attacks are absorbed directly into his body as is any cutting, slashing or stabbing attacks. This energy is then converted inside his body for various purposes. Vincent can use the energy he has absorbed to increase his strength proportionately to the amount of energy he has absorbed. An example would be if Vincent absorbed ten punches from an attacker, he could exert the combined force of those ten punches into one massive punch from himself. Vincent may also use any absorbed and stored energy to increase his stamina and endurance, allowing him to stay awake for days without tiring or giving his body that extra boost to last longer in physical situation. He can also increase his reaction time and reflexes on a minor level, allowing him to move more quickly for short controlled bursts on par with Olympic level athletes. The most dangerous ability Vincent gains from absorbing kinetic energy, is his ability to release all of it in a concussive explosion much like a grenade, but this attack leaves him severely weak and sometimes causes him to pass out.
The downside to Vincent's powers is that because of the raw power of the energy his body absorbs, is that it puts tremendous strain upon his heart and other organs. If Vincent absorbs too much energy, his body will begin to overload, causing him immense pain and blinding headaches which also could cause him to have a heart attack. Also, receiving an injection or surgery is out of the question unless his ability can be neutralized first.

General Appearance: Vincent can be a very imposing and intimidating figure with his rugged and harsh features and size. He stands 6'2 and weighs in at an impressive 210 lbs., quite a muscular and finely tuned physique he strives to maintain with a daily workout routine. His Russian heritage breaks through in his face with his strong set jaw line and dark skin. His eyes are hard and fierce, frame by thick dark eye brows. His hair is dark and thick, kept short by taste and because it is too thick and healthy to manage if grown out. Vincent usually sports a dark shortly shaved beard and if not that a stylish five o'clock shadow. As for any identifying marks, he has a small round birthmark on left side of his back.
Vincent's style of dress is based on practicality and need of the situation. When not on the job, Vincent prefers blue jeans or cargo pants with tight fitting cotton tee shirts or loose open dress shirts. When on the job, Vincent dresses in dark slacks and dress shirts but never a tie as they make him feel restrained. He owns few pairs of shoes, which consist of two pairs of sneakers, dress shoes, and work boots.
Personality: Vincent is a straightforward and to the point individual who takes his job very seriously. He believes firmly in devotion to family and occupation and has a strong sense of right and wrong. For Vincent, the strong are put on the earth to serve and protect the weak, those who cannot protect themselves. Abuse of one's authority or meta-human abilities sicken him. Justice is always Vincent's goal and he sees the world in black and white with no room for sitting on the sidelines. Inaction is the same as standing against the right and Vincent will not hesitate to let others know that. His strong religious upbringing is what gives Vincent his view of right and wrong and what drives him to protect the weak.
Outside of work, Vincent is rather fun and enjoys several different things. He loves American football and sometimes organizes a pick up game in the park on the weekends. Vincent enjoys the company of children and volunteers from time to time to mentor a child at the local youth center. He feels the world can only become a better place if people are willing to step up and make it a better place, instead of just sitting around waiting for others to make the right decisions on their own.
Mentally, Vincent is sometimes plagued by horrors of the wars he has served in during his short time in service with the Unite States military. He usually does not like to discuss this with just anyone and will often crack jokes to change the subject if others ask him about his time in service to his country.

Strengths: Vincent is an exceptional soldier and is very adept at doing what he was trained, which is protecting the weak and helpless. His strong determination make him a very formidable opponent in any situation, whether it is physical or verbal. His meta-human abilities make Vincent very useful in many situations and provide him with a leg up on those foolish enough to stand against him. He loves to box and if not for his meta-human ability, might have pursued a career in that sport.
Weaknesses: Vincent isn't very book smart and gets lost easily in highly educated discussions. He has very little patience and will not sit on the sidelines of any situation for very long, often leading him to leap into a situation far too soon. His abilities make it hard for Vincent to receive some medical attention as giving him an injection or trying to cut him open are out of the question unless someone can neutralize his kinetic absorption ability.
Fears: Vincent has very little fears but his main concern is never being able to save that next person who needs him.
Secret: Vincent suffered from severe stress after his discharge from the military due to his squad's inability to save a village under attack.

History
Vincent was born on a cold night in October in 1972 at a small downtown city hospital in Manhattan. His father, Ivan Romanov, was a Russian immigrant seeking a better life in America just before the start of the Cold War. Vincent's mother was an American seamstress by the name of Catherin Silvers who had met Vincent's father at a locally owned grocery mart in the neighborhood where both had lived. It was a small romance at first which quickly erupted into something much more serious and within three months, the two were wed. It wasn't long after, that Vincent was born, the first of two children.
The small family lived in a cramped little apartment in Manhattan. Vincent's father was employed as a construction worker and his mother took in what jobs sewing and washing clothes she could get to help support the family. Little Vincent spent much of his time under his mother's foot growing up until he was old enough to venture out from her watchful eye. Growing up in Manhattan was as cliched as it appeared in the movies and on television. The local kids all running around the streets and apartment building, sneaking smokes and other things from unsuspecting neighbors. Vincent however, stayed mostly out of trouble, partly due to his father's strict Catholic beliefs. Church every Sunday and the required church lessons saw Vincent develop the strong moral code he later would apply to his adult life.
When Vincent was eight, his sister Natalie was born, putting more strain on the ever growing family. Making ends meet was tough as it was, but being the strong man he was, Vincent's father worked even harder to provide for his family. Seeing the strain having a new mouth to feed put on the family, Vincent himself took a small part-time job at the newsstand down the street, peddling the day's paper for a few bucks a day. As he grew older, Vincent began to pick up odd jobs here and there around the neighborhood after school and while the money wasn't much, the pride his father felt for his son, made it easier to the family to scrape by.
At fifteen, Vincent's life would change forever. Walking his sister to dance class, the two began to cross the street, unaware of the chain of events which were about to happen. A local overworked immigrant much like Vincent's father, fell asleep at the wheel of his car and lost control of the vehicle. With no time to either Vincent or his sister to move out of the car's path, Vincent instinctively shielded his sister with his own body. At this point, Vincent's meta-human ability kicked in and as the car slammed into Vincent's body, almost all the kinetic energy was absorbed. Vincent's body fell to the ground, in shock but otherwise unharmed, his sister Natalie safely cradled underneath him. He awoke several days later in the hospital with doctors and reporters gathered all around. How had this boy survived such an accident with no cuts or bruises? The media swarmed the room, with reporters from all around begging for Vincent's story. However, the most interesting visitor was a small man from Vermont with talk of a school for people similar to Vincent.
Hammel was the perfect opportunity for Vincent to make something of himself and while it was not easy to send their son away, Vincent's parents knew Hammel could give their son what they never could. With a tearful goodbye and a stiff upper lip, Vincent left his family behind for a while and made a new home at Hammel. Upon arrival, the youth was immediately impressed and amazed at all the wonder the school had to offer him. Seeing others with powers which boggled the imagination lifted the feeling of awkwardness from Vincent and made him feel normal again. What laid before him was his chance to finally repay his parents for the sacrifices they had made for both he and his sister Natalie. So, putting himself head first into his studies, Vincent did his best to make his parents proud.
Vincent's time at the school went and came, with his academic standing resting at just above average. It seemed academics weren't really Vincent's strong suit, but his desire to succeed and do right left an impression on the faculty none the less. Graduating from the school at twenty-one, Vincent enlisted into the military, finding a home in the Army. His meta-human ability made him the ideal soldier and Vincent was deployed worldwide to help quell small insurgents of terrorists. Vincent spent most of his military career scattered about the Middle East and in fashion, ended it there as well. Assigned to protect a small village, Vincent's squad was attacked at night and quickly overwhelmed. Despite his skills both learned and his meta-human ones, Vincent failed in his mission and the entire village was slaughtered in an explosion.
Unable to cope well enough to Army standards, Vincent was honorably discharged and returned home to the United States to an ailing father and very grown up little sister. Six months after his return home, Vincent's father finally succumbed to his illness and died. Unable to properly care for herself, Vincent's mother went to live with Natalie who in turn urged Vincent to put himself together and become the man she remembered. So, putting in a few calls to some old friends, Vincent headed back to Hammel to offer what services he could to the place where he felt he belonged the most.
