The easy S T U F F . . .
Name: Abigail Henrietta Conners
Nicknames: Abbey
Age: 16
Orientation: Heterosexual
Desired Rank/Job: Student
Powers:
Memory Manipulation: She can change the memories of people. Right now, only small, unimportant memories like a grocery list. Even then, she can really only make someone forget they were going to buy eggs. She also has to be touching someone to even read their memories. When she does touch someone, she doesn’t really have control over what she sees yet. She can control if she sees something now, which is good. Though not so much when she’s tired. The side-effects are headaches, ranging from annoying painful to full-blown, “lock me away in a dark room” migraines. Depending on how long she uses her power. She also gets a little lost in the memory for a bit, kind of looks like spacing out to anyone who doesn’t know about her power.

Seven Memories of One Abigail Conners
One
Abbey was supposed to be asleep. 10:30 pm was a good hour and a half after her bedtime. She had been asleep, for a little while, but she was a light-sleeper. She woke at the sound of a door slamming, followed shortly by the quieter sound of glass breaking. Little four year old Abbey slowly walked down the stairs and peeked her head into the kitchen. ”Mommy?” Her voice wobbled a bit. She had never seen her mother cry before. Irene looked up quickly. Her daughter was staring at the broken wine glass and the spilled wine now. ”Where’s Dadddy?” Abbey’s voice was a scared whisper now. ”He just went out to pick up some milk. We ran out and you don’t want to have your breakfast without milk do you?” Abbey shook her head and toddled over to climb onto her mother’s lap. That was when her older brother walked in. Noah was a year older, and a little bit more preceptive. ”You can’t get milk in the middle of the night. You and Daddy have been fighting again. I heard yelling.” Irene sighed and set Abbey down. ”Noah, how bout you take your sister back to bed, while Mommy cleans up the mess. Noah scowled but took his sister’s hand. Just five and he was already protective of her.

Another argument, in the middle of the day this time. Abbey and Noah had been upstairs working on homework. He was helping her with some math. They both quietly scurried down the stairs at their father’s raised voice. ”You can’t just go out and buy whatever you want, Irene!” The kids sat down on the last step. They could see their parents, but their parents could only see them if they bothered to turn around. Noah reached out and took Abbey’s hand. She squeezed it and scooted closer. ”All this stuff is useless and takes up too much space! That workspace of yours is full of half-finished projects and supplies you never use. It’s a total mess. I thought we were done with this.” Steven sat down and put his hand over his wife’s. ”I thought the medicine was working.” Irene sighed and looked away. ”I don’t like taking it. It makes me feel all numb. I can’t feel anything on it. I’d rather have too much emotion than none at all.”

”Let’s go to the beach! For your birthday!” Abbey blinked. It was so early the sun was just barely coming up. ”You only turn ten years old once! Double digits!” Her mother was still shouting cheerily at her. Noah had appeared at her doorway at some point. ”Mom how early is it?” He asked. Abbey rubbed her eyes. ”About 6:30, but an early start is always good” With a smile, her mother turned around to open the closet. ”Come on get your clothes on.” The two siblings both stared at their mother like she had just grown a third arm. ”Mom it’s the middle of January. It’s too cold to go the beach, and there’s snow.” Noah said, moving over to sit on his sister’s bed. ”Don’t you want to see a snowy beach? It would be so much fun. We have to have some fun while your dad is away on business.” With a sigh, Noah gave Abbey that look he gave her every time their mom got into one of her moods. The look that said, it would just easier if we went along with it. Abbey gave a quick nod and hopped out of bed. ”Sounds like a great idea mom.” She smiled slowly.

Nearly every day at St. Mary’s Junior High in San Francisco was awful for Abbey. This day was a particularly awful day. It was twenty minutes after school was let out for the day. Noah was at basketball practice already, but Abbey was stuck waiting for her mom to come and get her. All of the teachers had either left or were in their classrooms, doors closed, working on last minute grading or lesson plans. As the weird girl, she sat away from the rest of the girls. The perfect, preppy, studious girls. The popular ones. She was the weird one, with her converse and her skull hair clips and her rock music. No Becky anymore, she had moved to Cincinnati the summer before fourth grade. She had her earphones in, Guns ‘N’ Roses blasting. Her eyes were closed, she was pretending the world didn’t exist.
She knew her mom wasn’t likely to show up for awhile, if at all. Which meant waiting for her brother to be done with his practice so they could ride muni home together. She didn’t notice the girls making their way towards her. A group of three, all matching with their little headbands and pearl necklaces. Catherine, the leader, stepped up to her. ”Hey, weirdo.” Abbey couldn’t hear them. ”I said, hey weirdo.” She yanked Abbey’s earphones out and grabbed her ipod. Abbey looked up at the other girl now. ”Excuse me?” She raised an eyebrow. ”I heard your mom is crazy. Like should be in a hospital crazy.” Abbey gritted her teeth. ”That’s not true...” Catherine and her two stupid followers laughed. ”Oh yeah, then why would your dad tell my dad about sending her away.?” Abbey stood up and glared at her, snatching her ipod back. ”That’s not true! He’s not going to send her away!”

”Hey Abbey?” She glanced up at her older brother. ”What?” She snapped, not moving from her bed. ”I know you’re still upset about our last visit with mom, but I want to show you something that might cheer you up.” She stood up at that. ”Yeah, well show me then.” Noah grinned. ”You have to come outside.” Abbey rolled her eyes but headed down the stairs. ”If it’s another fricking sick bird you want to take care of I’m coming back inside. After punching you in the arm.” Still, she smiled up at him. He shook his head, trying not to laugh. ”Not a sick bird, I promise.” He grabbed her arm and pulled her out to the backyard. ”Just watch this.” ”Okay... Abbey crossed her arms over her chest, watching him with a raised eyebrow. He knelled in the grass, putting his hands on the ground, and scrunched up his face. ”What are you doing?” She bit back a laugh at his face. ”Just shut up and watch.” She sighed but stayed quiet. A few seconds later a small daisy popped up between his hands. ”Oh my god! That’s amazing! How did you?” Abbey jumped up and down in her excitement. Three days later, when the people from Hammel came, her excitement had definitely faded.

Whatever the teacher was saying, Abbey was not paying attention. It was only the second week of school at Mercy High School and she was already tuning things out. Except for when stupid Catherine poked her in the side. Abbey squeaked and jumped slightly. The teacher turned to glare. ”Abbey, be quiet. Abbey bit her lip. ”But I... ”I said be quiet. Abbey turned to glare at Catherine, who was giggling too quiet for the teacher to hear. Abbey curled her hands into balls and then flexed them again. She looked over at Catherine who was now sitting up straight, her hands on the table, looking straight ahead like a perfect student. That was it. Abbey reached over to shove her. It was in that moment, there was a flash. A memory that wasn’t hers. It was Catherine’s. She was under the bleachers, making out with one of the football players, her shirt unbuttoned just a bit too low. ”Abbey! What are you doing? Why must you insist on disrupting class every day?” Abbey glanced up quickly, as if waking up from a dream. She stared at other girl. ”Well at least I don’t make out with jocks under the bleachers like some stupid teen movie!” The fish out of water look on Catherine’s face was totally worth the detention. Plus getting to go to Hammel with her brother.

Abbey woke up in her room at Hammel. She smiled as she sat up and looked out the window. It was a lovely spring morning. The sun was out, and it was a Saturday. No classes, no training. Just freetime. She pulled back the covers. Even after two years, she was still surprised how much happier she was here. Here with friends, her brother, and no angry dad or crazy mom to bother.
Roleplay Example
This is from a Tamora Pierce books (fantasy) based site
Sunshine spilled in through her open window, causing Isobel to slowly slowly open her eyes and awaken. She sat up then, a small smile on her face. It really was quite a beautiful midsummer day. Throwing off her covers she hurried towards her wardrobe. A beautiful day required an equally beautiful dress. Green or perhaps pink. Yes, it was definitely a pink kind of day. One of her more close-fitting gowns of course. It wouldn’t do to have her clothes catch on fire. Especially such a pretty gown as the one she was wearing today.
She managed to get it on without any outside help. Most of her everyday dresses were like this. Isobel didn’t like to bother her maid every single morning. That kind of thing was reserved for special occasions. She felt bad enough about how many parties there had been of late. Issy liked to be as self-sufficient as she could. Which was difficult when people were always trying to do things for her. At least back home, nearly all the servants knew to leave her well alone. In Havran there were a few that still jumped up and “m’ladied” her every time she walked by. Nothing much she could do about that though, except get out of the house.
As soon as she was all dressed and had her coin purse with her, that was exactly what she did. Once out on the street, she headed straight towards the market. She was in need of some new hair ribbons, as nearly half of hers had been chewed up or shredded by her lovely kitten, Snowball. It was nice to be outside in such warm weather. Summer had always been Issy’s favorite seasons. Not only was the weather wonderful, but there was plenty of her favorite drink, iced milk with honey, and she could wear slightly more revealing outfits and not get disapproving looks from her mother. Well not as many.
It was not long before she noticed a merchant stall set up with no only hair ribbons, but a few other bits and bobbles. Perfect, Issy thought as she headed over. The women who ran the stall was too tired to do much chatting. She simply yawned and let Issy look over the items. No reason to fear Issy was going to pocket any of the items without paying. She picked her way through the ribbons, finding a cream on with some gold embroidery, a plain blue one, a dark green one. No pink ones yet though, and she didn’t have any of that color anymore. Which was why her hair today was not tied or pinned up in anyway.
Instead the blond waves flowed freely down her back. Sometimes falling into her face, so she had to keep tucking strands behind her ear. She made a little pile of the ribbons and then looked up. Just to see what was going on around her, see if maybe on of her friends was about. She saw a few people, none that she recognized. Then her eyes met those a very handsome young man. She smiled charmingly at him. He didn’t look at all familiar to her. He must be someone here for the games that she simply had noticed until this morning. She was quite glad to notice him now though.
