Autumn wrinkled her nose. "You aren't still listening to Othello?" She said with a huff, folding her arms and looking an awful lot like her grandmother. "You know he only says mean things all the time." She glanced back at Gerri with a nod. "He called me frog eyed once. He's such a... a..." She trailed off, clenching her hands in her fists. "Slug." Because slugs were an abhorrent creature that ate plants alive and gave the older family dog (Brenda) heartworm so she had to be put down. Horrible. Autie could think of no insult more vile. "I'm glad your nothing like Slugfeatures." She added, nodding over at Romeo. "You're the NICE one."
Once Romeo was out of earshot once more, she giggled childishly at Gerri and nudged her. "Well that's good! When we all run away together you can have a wedding and everything. Roma weddings are amazing - there's partying and feasting and we do special rituals for good luck." She rabbited excitedly, imagining Gerri in a lovely handmade dress like Auntie Belle could make. She wanted to wear one of those dresses one day, yes, but she still dreamed silently of being whisked away by a Sidhe prince to be his princess and dance in fairy rings.
Realising she was daydreaming while Gerri was speaking, she shook her head and listened extra hard to what she was saying to make up for it. "Hmm..." Autie said thoughtfully, poking her head up over the hedge. "Romie? Do you remember when part-merfolk gain their power?" She hollered, because Romeo had a fantastic memory and he was easily the best person to ask about water-based things. Water and Horses were easily his speciality, and she was the forest lore expert. Together they made an unstoppable team of knowledge.
"See? He got LICKED by a unicorn." Autie said excitedly, once she couldn't see the shape of the guardian any more. "Romie is great with horses too." Settling down by the start of the fire, she began to loop the snares with a few twigs nearby. "Say." She started, looking up. "Has Grandpa decided if we're going to start taming horses again?" She missed helping her cousins groom the horses and gosh, Romeo was like a horse whisperer when it came to taming them. She was sure there was some sort of magic in their family line - else why would she and her cousin have special powers?
She scoffed when Romeo mentioned matches. "Of course she knows how to use a match, she's not stupid." She said, shaking her head. "She means flint fire." Huffing softly, the stubborn redhead went skipping off to find two flints and tossing them at her cousin's head with a gentle sigh. She was about to retort that if Romeo was going to treat Gerri as an idiot then they were never going to get married when she spotted something out of the corner of her eye.
"Oh... my..." She breathed, beckoning the two to follow her as she brushed through the hedges, her eyes wide as she disappeared from view. Crouching down and approaching slowly, Autumn turned. "Romeo!" She whispered urgently, putting her hands forward and very gingerly touching the flank of the creature she'd found.
"I... I think it's a wild horse." She breathed, careful to make slow movements. "He's hurt, oh Gerri look." She sounded a little tearful, then nodded at the prone horse, eyes wild, ears pinned back, heart racing. "Can we do something for him?" Turns out this camping trip in the forest was going to be more exciting than any of them thought.
